expensive vs free cables.

You know it's a funniest damn thing.....

My toshiba DVD player came with a thin-ass el-cheapo looking video wires to connect from DVD to my 32inch SONY.

So, rightaway i ordered bettercables S-video cable via web. I don't know about you but me, i ain't gonna wait a week denying myself the pleasure of DVD movie experience. I hooked it up using the needle thin factory OEM video cable(not even S-video). The picture was pretty damn good. I thought, if this thing is this good i wonder that new s-video cable i just ordered would be like.... I went ahead and watched, Blade, Matrix..blah blah.

A week later bettercable's S-Video cable arrived. Man this thing is SLEEEEEK! This is one happening cable! umm right? I mean it's got nice braided covers, gold connectors and thick.

Well to make a long story short, It didn't do jack in terms of improvement in picture quality. I switched the cables around between thin/cheap looking OEM cables and thick/nice looking bettercables cables. NO DIFFERENCE in picture quality.

Time and time, i keep falling for this snake oil business called Cable/Wire business. This high end wire business oughta be the biggest scam since the miracle weight loss pill.

Strength:

Well made, displays vibrant colors.

Weakness:

The connector ends of the cable are not very flexible.

This cable is very well made with a braided fabric as the cable cover. As soon as I plugged this cable in, I saw an immediate difference with the colors on my On Screen TV Guide. The colors were deeper without oversaturation.

The ends of the cable are not very flexible, so you have to make sure that your TV/VCR/Sat box, are a few inches away from the wall. Other than that this cable is certainly worth the money, and the no-hassle sales approach as well as the 6 month money back guarantee makes it all the more worth it.

I Ordered s-video and coax cables and received conformation of the order the next day. The cables arrived within a few days. I did recieve one faulty cable, but it was replaced promply, with no hassel. I have used Monster Cables in the past and these cables have the quality look and performance of much more expensive cables. I recommend them without reservation. Save yourself some money without sacrificing performance.

Strength:

Sharp picture and with good detail

Weakness:

Customs fees (for Canadian shipping) with UPS

At $44.95 US, you can`t go wrong with this cable. Compare to cheap s-video cable, the image looks sharper, cleaner with better detail density. Compared to Monster M1000 (not silver), it looks also sharper, but inceasing slightly the sharpness on the tv makes the image and colors very close.

The biggest problem with this cable is not the performance, but the final cost when ordered from Canada. First, i paid 7.34 US for shipping. In Canada, UPS charges me the TVS & TPS taxes (total 15.5%), but they also charged me over 57% for Customs fees. So, they charged me a total of 72.5% wich i found very abusing. This transaction maked me frustated. This is my worst transaction ever.

If you are Canadian, WATCH OUT not to be ruled by UPS !!!

Strength:

Solidly constructed, Excellent terminations, Expensive looking, and Top notch performance.

Weakness:

Absolutely none!

I'm using this cable for my DSS hookup.
Projects very realistic, life like coloring
and shading. I'm noticing a more dimensional
look in movies. Performs better than the MC I
was using. Excellent performance without the
inflated price I am so used to seeing.
Very pleased with it!

I was nervous purchasing cables for bettercables.com. The reviews here talked me into it.

In short, these are outstanding cables! And the price is great (check out what Best Buy will charge for a fancy Munster -- err Monster Cable).

I have a Sony DVP-S7700 (excellent player) and replaced a Monster Cable with the Ultra S-Video. Blacks became pure black, image sharpened, colors were perfect (on a 53" Sony projection set).

For the price you can't go wrong. These cables are available in any length. One of the true quiet bargains out there.

I eagerly anticipated the arrival of the bettercables S-video cables after reading the glowing reviews. I was not sure what I was expecting but was hoping for improvement. I have a data grade monitor hooked up to an interlaced pioneer DVD. I swapped out my AR Pro S-video cables for the bettercables and could not tell the difference. I decided to connect up an A/B switching via my B&K Ref20 pre amp and again could not tell the difference. I used test material like Toy Story, Matrix, Fifth Element. I will keep the cables because I need some extra S-video cables but they did not blow me away. I notice that they are no longer on their web site and seem to have been replaced with a Silver serpent model in S-video.

gotta work up the nerve to buy online sight-unseen

I've been wiring my home theater with Monster Cable for a couple of years now, but have recently begun reconsidering those purchases. When I switched to digital cable and needed a new S-Video cable, I picked one up at Best Buy -- a 1-meter Monster Cable. One connector was slightly flawed, so the color would drop out of the image intermittently, and the only way to fix it was to wiggle the cable. Most irritating. I'd been looking at Better Cables for some time, and was planning to go to them for some audio and speaker cables later in the year to hook up an amp and some speakers I plan to buy. I decided that this bad Monster Cable was my excuse to test Better Cables out. I ordered two 1-meter S-Video cables, planning to use them on the DVD-to-receiver and receiver-to-TV connections.

Absolutely amazing! My Mitsubishi 27" was transformed. The Matrix looks better than it ever did. A band of darkness on the right edge of the display that I had attributed to interference from an unshielded speaker turned out to be the fault of the Monster Cables, and has disappeared. I look forward to these cables burning in, since any additional improvements will be icing on the cake. Anyone planning to buy Monster Cable or a similarly priced product should seriously consider going with Better Cables instead (particular Monster Cable -- Better Cables with be the same price or cheaper for a better product). It's a bit of a wait since the cables are hand-made after you order them (it only took a little over a week and a half to get mine, and I received e-mail notifications of the expected shipping date when I placed the order and when it shipped), but my experience matches up with so many other reviews of these cables -- they're worth it.

System:
Outlaw 1050 receiver
Mitsubishi 27309 27" TV
Panasonic DVD-A310 DVD player
Panasonic S-VHS VCR
Harman Kardon FL-8300 CD Player
Bose Acoustimass7 and Model 100 surrounds (soon to be replaced with Paradigm Reference Studio/60's, Studio/CC, and Studio/ADP's)

When I had my Mits WS65905 ISF calibrated the technician recommended I use a better quality cable than the Monster I was using. I ordered a S Video cable from bettercables.com and hooked it up. I could tell an immediate difference in color saturation and clarity. After all the hype I have read about cables I am happy to report that the bettercables.com product is superior to all others I have tried over the years, including Monster, and the cables supplied with the several DSS receivers and DVD player I have purchased. The service and ease of use of the bettercables.com web site made purchase of my S Video cable a breeze.

Strength:

This cable provides excellent picture quality as well as overall craftsmanship, and both cables I bought arrived before I was expecting them.

Weakness:

None.

High quality, handmade and tested cables. If you don't think so, they'll buy it back. All at the same price of inferior competitors. Noticable differences could be seen in DVD picture quality when comparing my bettercables.com
s-video cable to other cables I own. Besides an overall crisper image, black regions of a scene appear blacker and shadow regions show much more detail.
