I have been using the Solar Winds speaker cable for about 6 months now, and I think they are great cables. Before I purchased them, I auditioned the solar wind versus straightwire cables, and the Nordost kicked their butts. In my opinion the strong suit of the Nordost ribbon-type cables is their excellent imaging; the detail is excellent as well. I also did an a-b type comparison between the Solar Wind and Blue Heavens, and to tell the truth, I couldn't tell much difference between the two. Part of that may because I don't have super high end equipment. Despite spending $250 dollars on speaker wire, I can't say I have had any regrets. A great product.

Strength:

The best imaging I have ever heard.

Weakness:

Bass can be slightly light, as too are kickdrums.

Having hooked this cable up for a home demonstration, it was immediately clear how clean and detailed the sound was over my trusty cabletalk 3.1.

This cables major strength lies in the realism it projects from the speakers. Never before have I heard such a fluid and real sound from my hi fi. I couldnt help but enjoy the music, and stop analysing how it sounds. The detail and crispness is something else.

However, for out and out rock fans it may disappoint as the bass can be lacking especially with the low end thump of bass drums. But what I mentioned above certainly makes up for that.

If you are looking for a cable around the £27 mark it must be heard.

PRICE

WHAT A DIFFERENCE,I'VE BEEN USING MONSTER FOR 2 YEARS THAT REPLACED MY AUDIOQUEST.IN THE AUDIOQUEST HAD BETTER CLARITY BUT IT WAS HARD TO WORK WITH. I MOVED AND NEEDED LONGER CABLES AND THE MONSTER WAS ONLY 80 OR 90 BUCKS.NOW I JUST GOT THE SOLAR WINDS TODAY.I FIRST PLAYED SANTANA'S NEW CD THROUGH MONSTER.I REPLACED IT WITH THE SOLAR WINDS, RIGHT AWAY WHAT A DIFFERENCE,TIGHTER BASS AND BETTER DEFINITION.WHEN I FIRST PULLED THEM OUT OF THE BOX I THOUGHT WHAT DID I DO? THEY ARE SO FLAT HOW IS THIS BETTER?DID I JUST GET RIPPED OFF? NO,I DIDN'T, MY SPEAKERS HAVE LIFE AGAIN I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS MISSING I CANT WAIT TO GET TO TRY A DVD.THIS IS THE MOST I EVER SPENT ON CABLES.LETS JUST SAY I'M A CHEAP.BUT I'M FINDING THAT SPENDS 10 TO 20% ON CABLES IS A GOOD IDEA YOU"LL GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR EQUIPMENT.I WOULD SAY I'M AN AUDIOPHILE BUT DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY.LETS JUST SAY I'M FOR SURE A BELIEVER ON THE DIFFERENCE CAN MAKE.BUT I'LL NEVER SPENDTHOUSAND DOLLARS ON ANY CABLE I'M NOT RICH.BUT A FEW HUNDRED IS A GOOD IDEA AFTER THAT I THINK IT MIGHT BE THE LAW OF DIMINISHING RETURNS.

Strength:

Good overall performer.

Weakness:

Long break-in hour.

I bought the solar wind based on the confidence I have with the 2 pairs of blue heaven interconnects that I have been using for quite some time. The blue heaven is a good flatline interconnect so I thought the same flatline solar wind speaker cable should sound good too. Also, after considering the other listener's reviews of the solar wind, I decided to give it a try. The price of the solar wind cost me a bomb as compared to many other brands of cable in the market. What justify the high price of this cable? Well, personally, I can only think of 3 reasons: (or there could be more...) the design, the technology behind it and the sound.
I replaced my soniclink to solar wind the first thing after I reached home. The bass was apparently tighter and faster but overall it sounds a bit laid back. It took me at least more than 80 hours to run-in the cable before it really began to shine. While in the process of running-in the cable, (that was within the first 80 hours) I was worried because the sound still not up to my taste and that I have spent a lot on it. What if it turned out to be a disappointment? Then all my cash spent will go into the drain. But wait! after 80 hours of run-in, the sound has become different(improved). I was surprised as if the sound of my system has been unveiled and opened up. Treble is detailed, clear and never harsh, vocal sounds natural, the bass is punchy and tight and the speed is fast too.
The boominess of some songs which I experienced with the soniclink now no longer exist. The sound is airy and spacious like I am sitting in a huge concert hall listening to the singer standing in the middle of the stage singing to me. Soniclink is spacious and airy too but sound scattering and boomy on some recording whereas solar wind has the right focus which sounds the way the music should be.
The solar wind speaker cable has since, after the blue heaven interconnect which I am still using, lifted me up to a new level of musical enjoyment. This time not to the heaven but to the solar. KEEP IT UP NORDOST!
