5 seconds was all it took to realize that my current interconnect cable(Nordost Red Dawn $400/1m.) was rendered for a "trade-in" when I compared
it to Nordost Quattro Fil Reference.

(listening comparisons were done on Kimber PBJ, Nordost Red Dawn,
Nordost SPM and Nordost Quattro Fil Reference)

First listening note impression "Unbelievable"...

The following are my listening notes:

1) SIGNIFICANT improvement in macro abd micro-detail over Red Dawn or
even the highly regarded SPM cable. This new cable can detail without
any agressiveness at all!

2) There is no "leaness" at all in this cable. The harmonic richness
and overtones presented on quality CD source is something to behold.
The apparent leaness of Red Dawn or SPM (just a hint of leaness by the
way) has been entirely addressed in this new cable design by Nordost.

3) Imaging is truly 3D in its refined palpable structure. In listening
to acoustic guitar you would swear that you are in the room with the
musician... Imaging is tighter and more proportional with a "touchable"
feeling I've never heard before in my system.

4) All frequency ranges are presented tonally coherent, and in proper
expression of attack, resonance and decay of the note. (Red Dawn and
SPM seemed somewhat agressive in comparison).

5) There is no "lighting" of the soundstage, just a refined, dimensional
proportional rendition of instrumental placement.

6) Low frequency articulation of Quattro Fil is again a few steps ahead
of Red Dawn and SPM in resolution, weight and "finess".

7) "Ease of listening factor" is incredible with Quattro Fil Reference...
I listened for hrs. to musical information that was retrieved with this
sensational new cable. The resolution w/o agressiveness in mind-bending!!!

8) Veiling is vanished, everything is now much more "right"!

9) Quattro Fil Reference is double shielded now to eliminate RF interference
and has a dielectric constant of about 1.3 (air has a constant of 1.0).

As you probably know, Red Dawn and especially SPM are some of the fastest,
most detailed, musical interconnects in existence. (SPM has been the
de-facto std. by some audiophiles for the last 2 yrs.) The Nordost
Quattro Fil Reference takes all the positives of the Nordost line and
improves on them significantly... very significantly...

Simply put, the Quattro Fil Reference is not only an upgrade but just might
transform the sound profile of your system to the natural "live music" event
presentation we all look for.

Highly recommended!!!

p.s. Please e-mail me with any of your own observations if you have the
chance to audition this interconnect, I'd like to compare notes!

Strength:

Excellent detail - very revealing. Very fast. Layered soundstage front to back. Excellent tonal qualities.

Weakness:

Can be too revealing. Can make some systems unenjoyable. Very expensive. Long break in period.

I purchased these interconnects as I felt my system could use more speed and transparency. That is exactly what I got!! Along with an improved soundstage, particularly front to back. Frequency is extended both in the highs and the bass. At first, I did not think there was any improvement to the bass, but when I A/B'd my old interconnects, there was definitely more weight and impact. The highs were more noticeably extended, which gives the impression of less bass initially. This was just the overall tonal makeup of the interconnect compared to what I had been previously listening.

These interconnects are very revealing. Some users who have given these cables a low rating may have done so because of some other problem in their system. Or, they may not have given them enough time to break in. I did notice these cables can sound bright and overly etched while breaking in. Break in took 500+ hours, but now the sound is much smoother. Even my wife, who is very sensitive to bright, digital sound, feels these cables sound very good now.

Weakness:

Cost, long break-in.

The most incredible cables I have ever heard:

Blows away Signature, Cardas, Etc....

You can hear the air AROUND the instruments. Listen at night with the lights off - Startling!!!.

MOST INPORTANT Custom Power Cord Top Gun HIFI.
(If you haven't tried this power cable, you are missing out).

The Quatrofil don't fatigue, don't color the music. You must break in these cable though - min 500 hours.

Best $1000 spent in my system yet!!! A Bargin.

Demoed these cables on my home system, all Levinson. Maybe I had a defective pair but they did not impress me at all. First, for a cable this expensive, I expected much better construction, fit and finish. The pair I had looked to have been made in someone's basement. I found the sound dark and a little slow when compared to XLO Signature. I also compared to a demo pair of SPM. I found less to dislike in the SPM. All cables demoed and compared were in balanced configuration. I think you can buy a much better cable for the money.

these things suck

Audioquest owns Nordost. I couldn't return them quick enough. Worst $2000 cable I've ever heard, made my ARs sound like Rotel.

Strength:

sound came out

Weakness:

dark, cold, no bloom, no detail

I assume this is the analog interconnect cable being reviewed. I borrowed a pair of these cables from the cable company when Harry P. gave his rave review in the Absolute Sound. "the best cable he ever heard" or something to that effect. I ran these between my Levinson 380S preamp and Levinson 332 amp. The rest of the system is Levinson as well with Maggie 3.5R speakers. The cables were balanced construction/termination. I have been running XLO Sigs. for 2 years prior to this audition. Compared to the Sigs. the Quattro's sounded dark, cold, dull. Sorry, that's what I heard. I let these cables run for 3 hours before listening. I did not have 24 hours or 24 weeks or 24 months as some people will tell you B4 a serious audiological evaluation. In the wine business, it's called "spin", politics too I think. What you should be hearing and when you should be hearing it. I didn't hear it ever. These cables cost WAY too much money for what you get. I believe that any product must have some raw or intrinsic(sp) value plus overheard and profit. There "ain't" $2000 to $3000 worth of material, overhead and profit or tehcnology or anything else in this cable. And more to the point, the sound is not there. A s always, try before you buy. The Cable Co. will let you do that and so should any retailer B4 you lay down the long hard(won) green. You can do better for less. Nuff Said.
