Strength:

As close as I have ever heard to actually being present in the concert hall.

Weakness:

Haven't heard any yet

LAT claims their “SS-1000 D is as good or better than any other cable regardless of price”. My two friends and I decided to put them to the test. One friend has the Harmonic Technologies Magic Tweeter- list price $1820, my other buddy has the Synergistic Research Resolution Reference-list price $2200. They both were able to buy them at 15 to 20 percent discount. The third one we compared it to was the MIT MH 750 Magnum- list price $2145. This one we borrowed from a local hi-fi shop. The SS1000 D uses 10 gauge wires, however, it is not one or two inches thick like some other high end cables. But don’t let that fool you. It performs like no other cable I have listened to. The people at LAT say that many of the real thick cables are just loaded with plastic fillers to make them look thick and impressive. I don’t need garden hose thickness and stiffness. Our interest is in good sound. Well, I got it in spades with this cable It has harmonic correctness and accurate timbre, deep and wide sound stage, pace and speed. Tight bass, and deep, if the rest of your equipment can carry the real deep bass. The bass is accurate though, not over emphasized. The background is dead quiet and it has a transparency that carries you deep into the music. When listening to small groups I become so absorbed in the music that I almost feel as though I am in the room where it is being performed. It is no slouch either when it comes to full orchestra music; the power that 10 gauge cable delivers again makes you feel that you are there. Incidentally, LAT says they are using a wire material they call silverfuse. It must be something new. Anyone interested can read about it on their web site. This cable is a completely versatile cable delivering superb performance with any type of music and vocals I have listened to. Instruments and vocalists are properly positioned in the sound stage; vocals especially. With some cables (and components) I have listened to the vocalist always sound up front in your face and is not blending correctly with the accompaniment. The LAT is so much smoother than the ones we compared them to. So much so that at first listening, we thought that the treble was a little rolled off. But no, after a while we realized that the music was all there. What we were hearing was the absence of high range brightness that some cables cause that is so fatiguing and irritating. I won’t go into detail about each and every difference we heard with all the cables. Our final consensus though, was that the only one that came close to the overall performance of the LAT was the Synergistic Research Resolution Reference. One friend thought the Synergistic was about equal. The LAT cable (10 feet) is a steal considering that those we compared it to cost about 5 to6 times as much!

Strength:

Very Neutral, clear but not harsh on the top , clean in the middle, tight bottom with no mud in between.

Weakness:

Not very flexible.

The 1000SSD is a very neutral cable. Don't expect it to shape your music or add warmth like Cardas, XLO, and some Synergy cables may. Neither should you expect any added brightness like Audioquest and Music World cables seem to do. (Actually I should in all reality add that cables don't add anything to the sound but some are more transparent in certain areas than in others and tend to have a dampening effect, either high or low or mid, so that the overall effect is the appearance of added sound.) What you should expect from the Lat's is the full sound that goes in to come back out cleanly, clearly and unimpeded. After all this is what a speaker cable should do, transmit without filtering any of the music that passes through them. Gratefully that is precisely what the Lat's do and they do so at a modest price. You could easily spend alot more and get alot less. If you can audition these for yourself before you buy, you would be well advised to do so. I have foudn that over extended listening periods they are never fatiguing and never dull. I use them for both music and home theatre and they perform well in both arena's. As with any equipment season to taste...but these suit mine well.

LAT International is not a well known company. In fact, looking at their grey SS-1000D speaker cable, you'll probably think that it's just some thick TV RF wire. It certainly does not have the exterior perfection of a Transparent Audio speaker wire, but it is some of the strongest cables out there. As for the sound quality, I compared it with the less expensive Transparent Wave and Kimber 4VS of the same length with same terminations. The Kimber is great for its neutralness and the Transparent for the robust midrange and bass. The SS-1000D combines both desirable qualities without the annoying characteristics of either one. The difference is so apparent that non audio enthusiasts can readily tell the difference. In the cable industry, higher price does not mean better sound. In this case however, the SS-1000D is worth every penny.

While not an "expert" on cables, I do wish to briefly share my perspective on the LAT speaker cables. I've been using the SS-1000-D cables for about 3 years. Previously, I had a pair of top-of-the-line StraightWire cables. I've also tried a variety of other cables in the same price range and above. My quest for years had been to hear the music in a super-clear and neutral presentation, and as the recorders meant it to be heard. Plus, I enjoy "feeling" the music as well as listening to accuracy of detail, space, placement, etc. Contemporary Jazz is my listening preference. To sum it up, I'm 50 years old and doubt I will ever need to buy another set of speaker cables. They allow all the charastics I had previously searched for (especially now that we have DAC units to eliminate jitter). From the top down, my equipment consists of a Parasound belt-drive cd transport, Musical Fidelity tube pre-amp, LAT IC-200-D interconnects, Zapco DAC, Illuminations digital cable, B & K Sonata EX-442 amp., M & K powered subwoofer, Yamaha powered subwoofer, and ADS L1290 tower speakers with upgraded wiring. Also, I use a commercial grade power filter for the amp. and run all the rest from a car battery through inverters. This system cost me about $8000 but because I've given attention to how/why things work better, I've a system that sounds like it cost $20,000, no exaggeration. And the LAT cables (all of them)have made the system both affordable and wonderful. I salute you folks at LAT!! And I heartily recommend LAT cables to anyone desiring affordability and wishing to hear the sound as "unpolluted" as their other system components allow.

Strength:

None

Weakness:

Too many to mention.

I had this cable for a long time now, I only use it if I ran out of cables to use. All I can say to all of you out there, don't even try these cable!.... When I bought it I thought it needs to be break in to get at least a good sound and it took me weeks but the sound stayed the same. I tried to return it (30 days money back guarantee), call them up on the phone and the answer I got from them was " give it more time and you'll hear the difference" so I did, but no change at all and finally realized that 30 days was over for me to return it. This was a good lesson for me dealing with this fake business. Beleive me don't buy this cable before it's too late. There's a lot of cables out there, give them a listen and trust your ears. These does'nt even deserve a single star but here it is anyway.

Hello,
I recently upgraded from two 12' pairs of Monster Cable XP wires in a
bi-wired configuration to a single set of 7' SS-1000 D cables from LAT
International as a Father's Day gift. I was fairly satisfied with the
sound of my system, but I've always heard that good cables and
interconnects that are properly matched can have a significant impact
on the quality of sound that a collection of components is capable
of producing.

My system consists of a pair of custom built loudspeakers using 10"
and 6.5" Eclipse woofers in 0.8 Qtc closed-box enclosures and a 1"
Vifa dome tweeter. The crossovers are all 6db/octave, which means a
VERY narrow "sweet spot." The loudspeakers are driven by a McCormack
DNA 1 power amplifier and a McCormack TLC pre-amp. The primary source
is a Teac VRDS-10 CD player. Present interconnects are 1M AudioQuest
Ruby's between the CD player and the pre-amp, and .75M Monster Cable
Interlink-400's between the pre-amp and the power amp. I'm using the
active outputs of the TLC.

LAT International recommends a 90 hour break-in period for these
cables before they reach their optimum performance level. However,
after only a few hours, the improvements that they made to the sound
of my system became apparent. The first thing that I noticed was the
fullness of the bass. The bass has always been well controlled but on
the lean side with the Monster Cable XP's. All of the control was
still there with the SS-1000 D's, but this cable revealed bass notes
that I didn't even know I was missing from the AudioQuest sampler
CD's.

Next, I noticed greater spacial detail, especially in well recorded
CD's like Cheskey's Sara K. The cable also enabled my system to
unravel complex passages with ease where it used to struggle with the
Monster Cable XP.

The improvement was dramatic and readily apparent to other members of
my Family. My wife commented that the improvement in sound was
similar to when I replaced my old Yamaha integrated amp with the
McCormacks. She said that the cables added "a new dimension" to the
sound.

Prior to this experience, I did not believe that cables or
interconnects could have such a dramatic impact on the sound of a
system. Now I'm a believer, and I've already started dropping hints
that I want two pairs of interconnects from LAT International for our
wedding anniversary in August.

The Monster Cable XP wires were (as I recall) $0.50/foot from Hi-Fi
Buys. One 7' pair of SS-1000 D cables from LAT International was
$285.50, including shipping. You may contact LAT International at
800-321-1832.

Strength:

Transparent, neutral, detailed.

Weakness:

Bass light (for some people), not very flexible.

This cable is very neutral. It can be mistaken as not dynamic.

But in fact It will be dynamic if the recording is dynamic and transparent if the recording is transparent.

Maybe because of the detailed and neutral nature, it can be mistaken as light weight in the bass department. But in fact, it's bass response is so clear that every movement and skills that the bassist attempted is heard and appreciated.

That is music; getting emotionally involved with the musicians in the recordings through their music.

LAT has successfully archieve that by introducing this pair of cables.

I have not heard a similar priced cable, a more expensive one, or a extravagently unafforable one before.

All I know is that this cable enable me to get involved with the musician emotionally in a very personal way.

Might not appeal for others looking for tizz and boom.
But issit that inaccuracy?

Overall, Just a link between amplifiers and speakers without adding any characters.

It has no character, thus does not invoke dynamic nor colour into the music.

If you like colour and dubs of oil paint in your music...this is not your cable.

I prefer otherwise...pure is the word.

Strength:

Decent product for moderate to low-end systems for the price paid.

Weakness:

In my system the cables performance was flat and unresponsive.

First let me start by saying that if you are planning on purchasing these cables be prepared for a long, long, break-in period. My cables took in the neighborhood of 150 hours before any noticable difference was audible. Since I pay for my electricity like most of us and was not able to run my system non stop, by the time the cables were broken in the 30-day money back guarentee time was well passed. When compared to the Cardas Cross ($877.00 list) the LAT cables were flat and unresponsive, and the Cardas were not even broken in, so I would assume they will only become brighter and warmer with time. I would place the LAT International cables as an equal to the Kimber 4TC, a cable of approximately the same monetary value, not equal to cables of two or three times the cost as LAT claims. I also feel strongly that LAT International knowing how long these cables take to break in should extend the return policy to at least 6 months maybe even a year. I know that if I was able to, mine would be going back. My advise to anyone planning on purchasing these cables would be to find someone who has a pair already broken in, listen to theirs and then decide.
