Strength:

Very clean.

I bought these cables based one the reviews here and the message board. The board recommends $3.00 a foot generic cable which I was thinking about buying. I found a 10 foot bi wire set with terminators for $120 which is a little cheaper. Didn't think much about it untill I decided to wire some other rooms in the house for the wife. I unhooked the kimber to wire in with a niles high definition box after about 6 months of use. I never could get my system to sound right. Something was wrong. The box is on the shelf, and I'm back to the kimber bi wire. If you doubt the value of kimber cable just get some, use it a few months, and then go back to your old wire. You will here the difference.

Not Full Range Cable - Lacking Significant Bottom (Bass)

Boy, I really wanted to like this cable! Kimber has a great reputation, rave reviews have been posted here, Stereophile and various British Mags. Furthermore, I heard them on a YBA SS amp/preamp and JM Lab Mini Utopia's and it sounded quite nice.

When I found an closeout bare 8' run of these (my speakers sit only 3.5' from the equipment stand) on Music Direct, I figured I had reached audio nirvana. Not.

Oh, these are fast and open buggers, but they lack any bottom. I played with them for 5 months before reverting back to my Apature 12 ga's. The Apatures are way more confused throughout, less coherent, less open - however, they are full range, no shunting of the lowest notes .

These cables work on small-ish speakers with insignificant energy below 50 Hz. They sounded great on the Mini Utopia's ($5,000 per pair). They are also probably quite good in a biwire set-up for the treble/mids (reason why I'll keep these around for the future).

Hey, I'm no bass freak, but I appreciate full-range and these didn't allow me to enjoy music unless it was simply miked, small ensemble music. The Gladiator soundtrack (try it, amazing recording and score) simply tore this cable to pieces.

I recently bought the LAT International SS-1000D cable - it is open, orderly, coherent and full range. It's staying - and the 4TC gets put away.

I think I'll have to give it 4 stars on the basis that for the right set-up it is a very good product, though I cannot rate it 5 stars due to its painfully obvious lack of low end extension.

Strength:

Soundstage & imaging very strong

Weakness:

Bought a 6ft pair last year to replace Monster- What a difference! Soundstage really opened up, imaging much clearer. Recently came accross another 12 ft. (used) on e-bay & bought it to bi-wire. Bass is now even better. This is a solid performer. Tried MIT at twice the price & returned them. Reasonably priced significant upgrade. BUY THIS CABLE!

Strength:

Bi-wired with 2 separate cables to each speaker using one cable for live the other for earth return, brings my system to life.Detailed midrange, extended bass, sweet treble well worth the money.

Weakness:

Shows up weaknesses, on less than perfect recordings

After trialing a great many interconnects and speaker cables ,then deciding in my mind that it would be sensible to find a cable that suited my ears, then use that cable for everthing. Kimber interconnects, Kimber speaker cables and Kimber power cords even a Kimber extension block,(two actually) has my system rocking-rolling-and jazzing most nights

Weakness:

Detail not as "clean" as Flatline

I was becoming depressed with all the money I had spent on TWEAKS in the past few years and was about to sell all...
Today I finally sat down and did a "serious" comparison test between cables. This had seemed like "work" a few days ago but today the mood hit me.
I have been using the Flatline Gold for a while now and I was very skeptical that another "budget" cable could beat it out. Well I was wrong. Using a "so so" recording for the test, I noticed the following about the 4TC:
1. "Fuller" bass
2. More depth.
3. Wider soundstaging.
The Flatline may have beat out the 4TC in treble detail but I can't be sure.
I'm not going to say this cable is "The Best" because I think all cables "work" different in various systems and I believe that personal preferences become involved as well.
I will say that this is the best cable I've tried in MY system so far!

Strength:

Cheap

Weakness:

A little thin on the bass and imaging can move around

I first decided to try Kimber cable after a friend replaced his old Monster OMC cable with 4PR. Then as I went more high end I went with the TC. At first I was happy. But I have tried other cables (Analysis Plus Silver Oval speaker cable on loan) and found that the 4TC has "loose" imaging. I mean that the instruments were not as well defined by the 4TC as the Analysis Plus. The bass was also not as tight. I have decided to skip the Analysis Plus Silver cables though and am saving up to try some pure silver (not silver plated copper) cables from Pure Silver Sound, since I have had such good luck with their interconnects. They are cheaper than the Analysis Plus Silver cables and only about $100 more than the 8TC.

Buy the cables with termination already installed. It's a pain to strip and manipulate these cables.

Possibly the best bang for the buck of all cables out there.

Strength:

(A) Neutrality. (B) Flexibility. (C) Available in a variety of connectors. (D) Kimber's fast turn-around time.

Weakness:

At this price point, none.

I've used the Kimber 4TC, in a variety of configurations, with myriad amps and speakers, for years. Other speaker cables have come and gone, but somehow, I always come back to the trusty ol' Kimber 4TC as my budget reference. Why, you ask? At this price level, the 4TC has good detail, dynamics, transparency, neutrality, and focus. I like the fact that the 4TC does not color sound. It is refreshingly free of that ubiquitous bass bloat. It does not add warmth. You can make changes upstream, and the 4TC will let those changes pass through.

The 4TC is practical, too. After dealing with thick, stiff cables, you will love the 4TC's flexibilty. Kimber's cheapest connectors sound just fine, thank you. But if you like the 4TC, and wish to fit it with fancy connectors, get those expensive WBT locking bananas or sandwich spades. I understand that if you order at least fifty feet of this stuff, and you beg and plead, Kimber just might be willing to make it in the color(s) of your choice. If you do get a custom color, avoid the black jacket. It seems that the black dye negatively impacts the sound, versus the clear/white/yellow Teflons.

It is not until you go up to the KS-3033, that you will significantly better the 4TC. The 4TC sounds better than the 8TC, which is too warm-sounding. And the KS-3033 is more refined, see-through, and elegant than the Monocle XL. So, start of with the 4TC, and enjoy its giant-killing performance. Assemble the system of your dreams. NOW, you may consider replacing the 4TC. But if you do, make sure it is indeed significantly, not marginally, better than the 4TC. Go straight for the upper-echelon cables; do not waste your time, money, and hearing on anything in between.

Whether you are just starting out in hi-fi, or have a Fantasy Island rig, the Kimber 4TC is at home. The 4TC is highly recommended by music lovers across the board. I just wish Kimber could get some sort of lifetime award, for bringing such a practical, high-performance, long-lasting product within reach of everyone.
