This typical cable has a very good bass response, since it is made of copper. I use titanium dome tweeters, so when I used pure silver cable, it was sooooo bright. Then I decided to use solid copper cable which was cheaper and this cable was on huge sale on audio advisor. The tweeters sound relatively natural, they were producing male vocal pretty natural just like what I expected from copper wires. Anyway, soft dome tweeters from dynaudio is still the best for producing any kind of vocal, but they are very pricey.

Strength:

Overall decent sound. Tight bass. Outstanding value.

Weakness:

None for the price

Decent all around speaker cable for a very decent price. I paid $99 for 12-feet brand new. This should give you some clue on the markup or margin on wires. I'm not a believer in spending a huge amount of dollars on fancy wire. I consider these to be outstanding and they do present more bass in my system vs my AudioQuest CV-4 cables.

Strength:

Great overall sound...strong bass and midrange.

Weakness:

Highs were not as clear and pronounced as other wires I auditioned.

I tested the Audioquest Slate wire along with the above mentioned wires over a 3 week period in my home. Here is my system:

Jolida 502b integrated amp
Sony CD player (Dont know model but it is a low-fi player)
B&W Nautilus 804 speakers
True Colors Cobra interconnect

First let me state, that this was my first foray into listening to "high end" speaker wire. I have never purchased any other wire except from Radio Shack. Since I recently bought a "high end" system I thought I would investigate more expensive speaker cable and see if the these cables "really" made a difference from the typical $20 radio shack wires that I had been using all of my life.

The results? Well ALL of the "higher end" cables were superior to the Radio Shack...the sound difference was noticeable to both me and my wife. Although I suspect the difference is not as dramatic to justify the 20x greater expense for some listeners. For an "audiophile" the Radio Shack would be unacceptable, but for "casual listeners" and perhaps for even some "audio enthusiasts" the Radio Shack will represent the best "value" for the money.

Anyway, here are my thoughts for the Slate. Slate wires were somewhat at a disadvantage because they were only single wired to my system vs. Bi-Wiring for nearly all of the other I auditioned. Even with that disadvantage, the Slates sounded outstanding! Very good separation of sound. Bass was excellent as was the midrange. My only complaint was that the highs were not as crisp as the best wire (MIT's). If anything, the Slates made me wonder whether Bi-Wiring was really worth anything? The aesthetics are very good. Just a clean thick black woven sleeve. I liked this one quite a bit. I gave it overall 4 stars and 3 stars for value - at $260 for a 10ft single wired pair you get a fair deal for the quality. I certainly would recommend this one.

This cable appears to be quite neutral, clear and open, letting other componants shine through. It may not offer the last word in detail but is by no means inadequate. It also has good extension at frequency extremes and decent dynamics. This is not what you'd call an "exciting" cable, but more of an "honest" cable (which I believe is preferable), and, indeed, it is very competant at this price range.

Equipment:
Panamax 1000+ power conditioner
Cambridge Audio CD4 CD player
Audioquest Coral interconnect
Bryston B-60 integrated amp
Audioquest Slate speaker cable (bi-wire w/ locking bananas)
Castle Eden loudspeakers

Strength:

Well tempered

Weakness:

Nothing for this price, maybe the color (black fabric)

Bass is tight and deep enough slightly better than Audioquest CV-4.
Everything is well tempered , smooth highs, good bass and middle. No coloration, maybe the frequencies are not as extended as CV-4 but.
I compared it with Straight Wire Stage and it is slightly better in all areas may opinion but a little bit more expensive ($25 /m versus $18 / m).
Finally I decided to use :
- CV-4 for the rears (17.5 meters) because they are more detailed and don't need bass punch for rears (Dynaudio rears are not bright and quite sensitive, and 4 ohms, no bi- wiring needed) + the cost is lower + the cable is thinner)
- Slate for front because of musicality (great bass) very well matched with my relatively bright Totem Forest and permits internal bi-wiring.
