Sound Quality

I'd been looking to upgrade from a DIY coax cable that I'd built from a recipe found on the net using teflon coated silver 30 ga wire. Having never tried a TOSlink cable, how much could I lose?

How about my entire investment?

When I plugged in this cable, it sounded awful. It appears to have introduced a large amount of jitter. To be fair, it's tough to say if it's the cable, the optical out from the source, or the optical in on the amp. All I can say for certain is that in my system, it sounds awful.
