I have been using the hero cables for about three months and think I made a wise decision. My gear consists of golden tube se-40 amp and golden tube pre-amp with an Icon2 cd player. If you are looking for something to cover a weak point in your system this is not it. The hero is very neutral and will definitely let you know where your weaknesses are. I will never look for another cable and am glad not to play the cable of the hour game. For tube gear I rate the Kimber Hero very high.

Sound quality? Very neutral and dynamic without the excessive highs. I've experimented with many cables ranging from $20 to $150 and I found the Hero to be the most "transparent" cable in the price range. At $120/meter this cable makes an ideal interconnect for most CD players. The WBT-0147 connectors are probably the best RCA type connectors you'll ever need. For systems that need more highs, DH Labs Silver Sonics might be a better choice. If spending more than $100 on cables is too much for you then the Kimber's PBJ should be a good alternate. It's $40 less and it sounds brighter than the Hero, however I don't think you'll find a more neutral cable under $100 than the PBJs.

Well, I'm ashamed. I toed my speakers in about 15 degrees, and the imaging vagueness vanished. They had been pointed straight forward (the old Monsters sounded better that way) but the cables now have no problems... They sound great!

To be brief, let me get straight to the point. Please read the PBJ's reviews first. These cables are better than the PBJ in that the top end is smoother and less irritating in the long run. They are also attractive , especially with the WBT connectors. I find them worth the money and a worthwhile step up from the PBJ

Interconnects tend to perform differently from one system to another and the HERO is no exception. This cable is flat offering light bass and smooth though not dispersed treble. I was able to discover this when I played track #5 from John Scofield "Time On My Hands" from BlueNote company. The high frequencies were lost and replaced by a beam of hiss. This is not a bad cable and will please certain people seeking this type of sound.

I bought these on a recommendation from a trusted dude at an audio store. I brought them home, hooked them up (replacing Monster Interlink 400s) and started listening. The midrange sounded like it was being played/sung through saran wrap. I was not too happy. So, I left everything on for a couple days of break-in. The saran wrap is gone, and the sound is very nice; clearer at the top and bottom than the Monsters. My only remaining complaints are that they don't image as well, and bring more attention to the speakers. With the Monsters, I was able to say "the guitar player is right there, and the singer is right there". The Heroes give more of a general idea than a specific location. And the speakers vanish less. Raw quality of sound, however, is much improved. Decent cables, but I would not call them great.

I tried a used pair of kimber hero interconnects for only few hours. Never-the-less, i must admit that it offers very good transparency and dynamic for the price. The sound is quite strong with this interconnect. The mids are detailed and neutral and the bass is powerfull. The main weekness is a loss of details (and a restriction of the image) at the top end. For that reason, i feels it is better suited for connecting a preamp to a power amp. In my system, i obtained the best performance when i used it between my BRYSTON power amp and preamp. Using a dh labs bl-1 series II on my cd player (kcd40), i was impressed by the very good results. For me, Kimber hero outperformed clearly kimber pbj in every area, except for the top end, which is more detailed and opened on the kimber pbj.

Best cable (for money) so far! Great on amps or analog sources but I found the digital edge on CD players annoying. 4/5.

I upgraded from Radio Shack Gold cables to connect my CD and DVD players, so I was not surprised to hear improvements -- I would have been shocked not to. The bottom line is that I felt the improvements were great enough to justify the cost.
I avoided the PBJ's because my system already was somewhat bright. The Heros radically reduced that brightness(and other upgrades, including an MSB Link DAC have totally eliminated it), plus they added depth to the soundstage and vocals and improved the upper-bass, a weakness in my CSW Ensemble speakers. I did not find that I lost noticeable definition in the upper ranges, as other viewers have noted here, but that has been a strength of my system.

I would recommend these cables to solid-state users like myself, and find them to be a worthwhile step up from cables in the $60-80 range (like the PBJ). However, I reserve 5 stars for products that totally knock me out, like the MSB Link DAC and Salamander racks.
