    Strength:

Reliable, stable, high torque means good start times. Very resistant to feedback

    Weakness:

The turntable light WILL fail. This is very difficult to replace. Speed control will last about three to four years of heavy use before it fails.

Good reliable workhorse. These haven't become the industry standard for nothing. There are many immitations but most of them fail to come up to scratch. In particular, if you are considering another turntable for DJ work try speeding it up with your finger and see if it slows down again immediately. This might not seem important but trying to mix with a turntable that doesn't is very annoying.

    Strength:

Direct drive, quarts lock, superior construction.

    Weakness:

No pitch bend, +/- only 8%

As a DJ, all I can say is the Technics 1200''s are the standard by which every other turntable is judged. Are there better turntables, probably. Are there cheaper turntables, definately. But as the standard for DJ''s since dirt was new, you simply can''t go wrong. Support, repair, and replacement parts are everywhere, too.

    Strength:

I heard they last up to 20 years

    Weakness:

I found a really bad weekness. I tried a used 1200 once and when I played a record on it the motor started twitching. I''m wondering if its because it was old or someone had damaged the motor. That''s the only bad thing about it.

The turntable is strong and when you pull back it catches on quickly. I guess it''s the best out there.

    Strength:

Built like a brick 5hit house. Take alot of stick. (Some git spilt a Vodka bottle over one of mine about a year ago and it just kept going)

    Weakness:

They havn''t got a dust cover. Slow brake about 0.5sec

Vestax PDT5000 Vs SL1210mk2. How often do these 2 get compared? Only this Friday, at the end of my set, yet again someone asked why I use the 5000''s & not the SL1210''s? Simple I prefer them!!! Yes DJ''s everywhere have used/own 1210s and think they are the dogs Bs, they are. I too have used & owned them for over 2 years. I also use & own the Vestax. They have a faster start, sound just as good if setup properly,a much higher torque motor, which in my experience seems to hold pich better, particularly over dead centre, where the 1210''s used to drift slightly. If you havn''t used them don/t knock them. Many visiting DJ''s have turned their noses up when they first see them. True they don''t look as good as the 1210''s, but by the end of their set they all admit they are just as good if not better(Even had a CD DJ praise them) At the end of the day either of these decks are excellent, at the price they should be. Do yourself a favour try both if you can.

    Strength:

Build quality (Solid rubber base, Solid aluminum top) Sound, stability, Excellent everything.

    Weakness:

Very expensive, And also, if you ever mention you have these you''ll get always get some spa saying crap about how they''re 20 year old design is crap etc etc etc.

5 stars in this review means, "far better than you imagined". I imagined 1210s to be excellent, i got a pair, and they *were* far better than i imagined, these are so absolutely incredible, no-one would have changed from Vinyl to cds or tapes if they owned them. Buy one (or two), get a nice needle for them, a nice amp, and some great records and enjoy them for the rest of your life, Believe me, they''ll last that long, they will outlast you. Forget the rest, Vestax, numark etc etc. They are a nasty cheap joke to these monsters. Take a risk and stand on these babys, and watch the world spin at EXACTLY 33 and one third RPM. Try it on a leading competitor and get bits of plastic and wood all over your floor. These are even worth considering over and above audiophile sets, Although they don''t sound Quite linn-ish enough to be ranked as the best sounding ever.

    Strength:

    Exceptional Construction. Versatility.

    Weakness:

    Prewired RCA connectors.

A real testament to this turntable is the magnitude of reviews and controversy it gets. To be honest, I probably wouldn't of bought my 1200's if I didn't love electronic and sampled music. It functions very much as an instrument and a creative device as it does for playback. this makes it really special, and perhaps in a class of its own.

As far as sound quality is concerned, a good amp, speakers, and cartidge will close the gap between this machine and the thousand dollar counterparts. Speaking of which, proponets of the Grado and rega do not spend their time reviewing their own equipment, but rather criticising the 1200. Check out those reviews.

My only complaint is the prewired connectors.

Other tt's which attemptm to immitate the 1200 fall far short of the mark. Vestax does not have the higher torque it claims to - you can stop the spindle by holding it between your thumb and indexfinger. Numarks platter is not as well constructed, and thus a lot of feel is lost if you want to spin. Gemini's are poorly constructed and too light.

    Strength:

Tough. Can take anything, and still sound great.

    Weakness:

    none.

This turntable definitely tolerates more "hands on" use than any other table. While I tend to use the decks mostly for DJing, I've appreciated just kicking back and listening to pretty good quality sound coming from LPs.

    Strength:

Everything about The turntable is strength

    Weakness:

No weakness Than Price. But, worth every cent.

I like to say that 1200mk2 is the best turntable in the world and it been prooving time and time again. The turntable was first made in the 70s. The body style stayed the same over all these years, until recently with the 1200MK3D, other than change color from silver grey to charcoal grey or black. Also, in that time the wattage has change. I have a pair I brought in the early 80s that are 12 watts and a pair that are 13 watts. I think there now 15 watts in power. I use to have 14 watts 12s, but they got stolen. To make long story short, even with the new turntable that coming out, that you set sideways or have display on them and turn backward at the speed of forward play. They will never, ever have strength and power and hold up the 12mk2 had. I have some fun and great mixes on them and the only reason I have so many 12s is, home and gigs and clubs. Even unpacking a new 12mk2 and setting it up is a joy by itself. Last thing, If you get a good solid needle cartridge and adjust the weight and height on the tone arm. Man you talk about some tight cutting, scratching and blending for ever, as long as you got the skills.
