Strength:

Very neutral, resolves a tremendous amount of detail, very open and airy.

Weakness:

Heavy, you will need to make sure your arm can handle a cartridge of this weight.

This is the warmest, most neutral phono cartridge I have had the pleasure of owning and using in my system. It extracts every note from familiar and new recordings alike and it is seamless from top to bottom. A very good bargain and definitely many steps up from my previous Shelter 501 MKII and Goldring Maestro cartridges I have previously owned.

Strength:

Neutral(in my system), authority in bass, warmth in midrange, nice treble.

Weakness:

cannot pass Track 9 in Hi Fi Review Tesl LP???(Or does it really matter?)

Shelter 901 would be the best cartridge ever in my system(Pro-Ject Perspective turntable, Phase Tech Step-Up Transformer, Tube box SE Phono Amp(Mullard CV4004x2, Sunfire Classic Pre-Amp(Telefunken E88CCx2), Sunfire Signature Power, Elac FS-210A). It's musical but not mechanical, dynamic with lots of details but not exaggerated. Tracking is excellent most of the time(close to perfect in Hi Fi Review Test LP Side A Track 8 but Track 9......gloriously failed). My Audio Analogue 24/192 CD player in comparison sound dull and unnatural with most of the CDs. The bass of 901 is likely to be the best in its class. The hearts and feelings of the performers or vocalists are more lively presented in the front of me now(It depends pretty much on the recordings!). I am not sure it is neutral or not.....in my system, it seems to be excellent!
