The quality of this is excellent, but the VR 7000 I have is not 130 watts, it is 420 watts. Do I have a commercial version of the VR 7000 home model?

Strength:

Ample power. Clear sound.

Weakness:

Old fashioned dial tuner.

I received this unit for free, so I did not expect it to even function. It sounds incredible. It is hooked up to a pair of Energy ESM2. This unit sounds better than my ( relatively ) new Pioneer amp.

Strength:

Quality for the buck.

Weakness:

It''s hard to complain. You would be in the $300 to $500 range for a new component that matches the quality of this receiver.

A real sleeper in the used stereo market. I paid $129 for a VU-2000 receiver and matching VCX-200 cassette deck. I would compare these units to NAD in appearance and sound quality. The analog tuner is really smooth. I wish I had some specs on this thing. I think I remember this thing being rated at 100watts. I''m not sure it''s there, but it probably gives an honest 40 to 60 watts. This unit is a nice match for a quality bookshelf speaker, but I think it would benefit from an equalizer in the mix.

Strength:

Good, solid performance across the spectum.

Weakness:

Graphic EQ is a must.

I guess Vector went the way of Federated, where I bought in 1985. My receiver is the 100w model. I had planned to buy the bridging amp to go with it but never did. I also bought the tuner, cassette deck and turntable, powering a pair big Advents and a pair of Bose 301s. The cassette deck quit on me but had exceptional specs and sounded great. The tuner and linear tracking turntable were O.K. The amp always performed well especially through the Bose speakers, which are alot more efficient. It's all in the closet now, replaced by a Sony THX surround sound system. Maybe I'll put it in the garage. Brian is an ass. Anyone know what happened to Vector?

Strength:

Five sided metal construction. No IC chips. Transistors only. Great analog tuner. Tape copy btwn 1 and 2 w/tape monitor for tape 1 and 2. Rack mountable.

Worked at the store and bought one after a shelf displaying the product line collapsed and dented all the recievers. After testing them all, they all worked, being 5 sided metal construction kept them from breaking. Then I know it could withstand the abuse I would give it. Have had mine since 1980 and had it repaired once. I had to replace an output transistor. It's been kicking ever since powering some Bose 901's

Reliable, Great Sound, Tuner is excellent. I am using to drive Dual Cassette, Technics Turntable, PC, Onkyo CD, & pair of Siefert Research Monitors

Weakness:

Company is out of Business.??????????

I bought my VR5000 back in 1980 at Federated in So. Cal. . Its criss-crossed the nation with me. Original box and packing. Other Audiophiles comliments its quality sound.
I will never get rid of it. Does anyone know of a company or service that tweeks or re-furbishes VR's.

Thanks for the memories Supersnake!! I fully agree with your father. In the late 70's I was the prideful owner of a Vector Research 80 watt receiver, two tape decks and graphic equalizer. Also 3BX DBX dynamic range expander and Hitachi direct drive turntable. This system fired-up a pair of Infinity reference standard two. Vector Research was ahead of their time and made some of the best integrated components. Never had any problems except after 15 years the servo motor on one of the tapes was replaced. The sound was great with plenty of power to spare on the top end. I only wish, now I still owned them??!!

I have the VRX-9100. Used and abused for about 13 years, and still perfect. Does anyone have any links to manuals?? Mine has disappeared also over the years.

This is my parents' receiver. It has 4 inputs and 65 watts per channel. It has bass, mid, and treble control knobs. Although this is a rare brand, it is a very nice receiver. They have a pair of $150 Sears speakers with 12" woofers hooked up to it and the sound it makes is amazing for the age/price. The sound is so pleasant to listen to, and unlike new Kenwood, Sony, JVC, Yamaha, Denon, and all the other company's new receivers, this one puts out enough bass when it's set at 12 o'clock (0dB on a scale of -10dB and 10dB). I don't understand how it sounds so good, but it does. You'd think they had $1000 speakers when you heard it, but they don't. The treble and mids are a tad better than that of an NHT SuperOne. This receiver may be out-dated now, but my dad still hasn't heard a better sounding receiver. The tuner is great, too. Outstanding peice of metal.
