I actually have the G-6000, but it seemed easier to kepp all the post together. A friend of mine blew out one channel and lost the desire to fix it and gave it to me for free. It turned out to be a couple of fried output transistors, and after $60 in parts and a few well learned amp repair lessons I had it working. My previous amp was a NAD AV711, I expected the NAD to beat the Sansui, not really knowing the capabilities of the Sansui. Boy, was I surprised, it cleared up the highs and the bottom end exploded! I have NHT 2.5 which are somewhat power hungry and the 711 wasn't enough, but the Sansui seems to effortlessy power them. I am very happy with it. If anyone knows the specs on this amp, power, cost, etc. drop me a line I'll enjoy hearing from you.My system:

Had mine since 1978 with SP-X8000 speakers. Nothing compares to these components today.

Strength:

Clear, powerful, beautiful.

Weakness:

None unless you want remote and surround.

I listen primarily to classical, latin, and solo vocals. Based on the reviews here of the G-7500 and other receivers in the G series, I purchased a near-mint G-5500 (more in line with my power needs) on Ebay for about $100 to replace my old Technics at the lake house. I had also planned to purchase new speakers because the old ones sounded flat.

Oh, my! Not only in this receiver lovely with its silver face and wood cabinet, but the sound that comes out of this thing is clear, undistorted, and sumptuous up and down the scale. You find yourself listening to old recordings for nuances that you never heard before. And forget the new Paradigm Monitor 7s (nice) that I had settled on. Found out those old speakers were pretty good with sufficient power and quality to drive them. They do still make stuff like this, but NOWHERE near this price.

I really don't much care about surround sound. If you primarily listen to music, these receivers can't be beat at any price, not at least at a price that I can afford. Simply outstanding, and the best audio $100 that I ever spent.

Strength:

I own a G-8000 which isn't listed for some reason. It boasts a whopping 120 watt output power. Quite frankly, I have never heard anything like it. I have two homemade 18 inch woofers with tweeter horns hooked up to it and my lord, with the volume turned up to 6 and one half , I visit with the local police on occasion. It's the loudest 120 watts I have heard.

Weakness:

It's friggin huge and needs a little equalization.

It was given to me by my fatherin-law. I think he paid 20 dollars for it at a garage sale. When I first got it I had two Boston-accoustics bookshelf speakers hooked up to it and had no idea what I had untill my in-law built the 18 inch Eminince speakers for me. We have since enjoyed the concert quality sound while listening to both country and rock. By the way , he does have something that out performs it. Not all of the led's work on it but as long as all of it's primary functions work , I will never want for anything more.
