Strength:

Lots of power. Onboard ethernet card for network hookup. Auto setup modes. Connectivity for evertything.

Weakness:

None.

As a retired electrical engineer, I was initially looking for a simple Pioneer upgrade receiver mate for my Pioneer Elite 50" Plasma TV. What I found was one of the best audio pieces I ever purchased and I have had a lot in the last 40 yrs. I opted for the 94 (demo because it is out of production) over the new 2008 line because of the ability to hook it up to my computer network with just a RJ-45 network cable. The automatic surround setup was a breeze and brought to life all of 5.1-7.1 signals TV and DVD. This MCACC setup equalizes the speakers to match the room acoustics. Awesome! The sound is so crystal clear that you might think that certain sounds are actually coming from inside the house and not the speakers. Plenty of power for my Paradigm Reference-based home theater that literally knocks items from their perches (2-Servo 15 subs will make your palms sweat). And it is a beautifully designed piece in piano black with typical digital light beige readouts. I think it would have looked even better with at least another color (maybe red) for the surround indicators. And I am originally a McIntosh man who relishes good reproduction as well as good looks. It's too bad that it is out of production because the replacement model is about $600 more than a new 94 would have been. The big feature as I stated above is its network capability. In Windows XP with Media Player 11, I can play everything through the system. Very convenient instead of always searching for a DVD or wax to play while not watching a movie or television. For other owners of the 94, I know you understand my elation. I do recommend this receiver (if you can find one) to anyone who wants a great receiver for middle of the road money and not using separates. Every morning I cannot wait to fire it up along with my morning coffee.
