I just bought this Marantz 4270 Quad on a whim from EBay. It was listed as untested and $400 seemed steep for something needing work. but I had a small Marantz receiver (2226b when I was kid) and took a chance.
OMG .....when I hooked my JBL L56's it was strong and then I thought okay bigger is better and out came the Klipsch K4's then I added some Polk Audio's DSA SRS2 and the sound kept climbing. Now why not the big bass of my Cerwin Vega's D15's and we have a full on Van Halen concert going driving from those stout 15" woofers.
My wife thinks I'm nuts but I get it, 45W per channel and pushing four sets of speakers to the limits. Almost so loud I cannot take it. But it is not that it is just loud... it is clear and distortion free. How cool is this.

Man a 40 year old receiver can do this. Why buy new ever again. Marantz where have you been?

When I originally bought the 4270 Marantz Quad Receiver, I would never have intisipated the powerful sound this unit would deliver with approx. 45 RMS Watts per Channel times (4). When I decided to hook my A7s Altex Voice of the Theatre speakers to it, running the front channels and my Boise 901s in the rear; Sound and Performance was absolutely breathtaking. It seemed to vibrate the dust and the hidden bugs out the door. In my life I have not witnessed a system to this level again; with the exception of Club 41 in New York. Mind you their system was probably worth at least $50, 000 grand back then.
That Quad sound was and is unbeatable, in a league of it's own.
In 2004 the complete system was destroyed in a violent Hurricane in Florida.

Well folks, here I go again indulging in another vintage Marantz review. (I have 3 others, including the legendary 2270 and 2275 models. and even though those units sound better than this one, it still sounds better than most! I mean, what can you buy new today that can drive up to 8 large speakers with ease (can you say, "kicks?"), and has anything like that signature vintage Marantz sound, and can be got for under $1000? Nothing, I bet. I knew I had to have it the moment I laid eyes on it. $250 was a low price at the local music resale shop, but it needed professional servicing. As far as I'm concerned, every dollar I spent having it professionally serviced and brought back up to factory specs was money well spent. It's a funny story about how I bought it. By spring of 2011, it was already the 3rd vintage Marantz I bought from this same store. I had just bought a brand-new Sherwood from Radioshack that was rated at 100wpc and cost about a hundred bucks. I hooked it up in my bedroom and thought it had a distinctly crisp and clear sound, but no balls. I thought about returing it. Then I saw this Marantz Quadradial - Bing! - It was as though the universe was listening to me and responded. I promptly returned that piece of China-made junk back to "The Shack," (which the guy was quite angry at me for). I borrowed money from my employer just to get it before it was gone. When my dad first saw it hooked and mounted up high in a wall cavity in my home he declared, "It looks magnificent." Also, he couldn't tell any difference in sound quality between this one and his 2270. And that's saying a lot, my friends. When I first played it for my roommate I warned, "It's got big balls." A minute later he was nodding his head in agreement saying, "Yup, it's got big balls." And this was when the receiver still needed work! Need I say more?

I been using a Marantz 4300 for a short time I bought it off craigslist a month or so ago. Its one hell of a receiver I been using a Bose lifestyle and did not realize what i was missing. first off anything built 30 years ago and still working is incredible. second I haven't found a pair of speaker that can handle what this thing can dish out. Im planning on buying a large set of high-end loud speakers here soon. since i bought it we been listening to music allot more its very impressive and give off a very warm feeling to the room.

Strength:

beautiful faceplate and knobs paired with sexy blue dial. sound quality, can push any speaker with no problem

Weakness:

tends to run hot when pushed hard, needs ample amount of ventilation.

This is a review of a marantz 4300. purchased on ebay. I've been lokking for a decent 4300 for a long time and found one on ebay. it came enclosed in wood cabinet that protected it from shipping damage. the reciever survived the cabinet did'nt, I did'nt buy the 4300 for the cabinet anyway. To my suprise the unit was near mint inside and out. after replaceing what seemed to be the original dial lamps and the stereo indicator lamp, and adjusting the tuner dial pointer to land on the exact station frequency, I had a wonderful looking reciever that would make many jealous with envy. it out weighs my 2325 by several pounds and pumps out some serious sound in 2 channel mode and quite impressive sound in 4 channel mode. marantz got it right and put itself on the map ahead of everyone else when they created the 4 channel receiver's. the 4300 is a hard find in good shape and even a harder find in this condition. if your into big, sexy looking and simply put the best sound for the buck look no further. if you find a nice 4300 grab it you won't be sorry.

Strength:

Clearity, brilliant and warm tonallty. Powerful, hadling my speakers and sounds tight.

Weakness:

For the price nothing but compare to my 4000EUR amplifier the upper register >10khz is a little bit harder.

In 2002 I bought a "Never used and boxed" Marantz 4270 incl. Walnut Cabinet made year 1973-1974 (i.e 30 years old). I hooked it up with my very good Cd-spinner CD17mkIIKI and connect it to my speakers Mirage OM7.The sound was very musically and warm without being diffuse. I normally not using it because I have an another amplifier but if I compare the price 4000EURO with the 650EURO its playing music very very well. Im planning to hooked it up with my hometheater system for trying to use the 4 channels incl. the SQA-2 module. I will keep this machine for the rest of my life and It looks beutiful as well.......! Its easy to find on E-bay and not costly even for a good one.The build quality i super, separate module-poweramplifiers easy to replace or reparied if needed. I used a Marantz 2275 for 25 years and it worked perfect when I sold it and used a lot but never repared (not even noise in pot.meters). Has to be the very best build quality what so ever other brands.

My grandfather bought this unit in the late 1970's-- (when I was in diapers!) Some 27 years later, it's still going strong! The "stereo" light burned out, the AM reception is kind of weak, and the FM band has a slight screech between channels, but when you do pull in a signal or listen to a CD, this unit is STILL far beyond most of the units out there today! Hook it up to some vintage 1972 Martin speakers, and you have an authentic '70's groove machine! Right on!

Strength:

400W @ 2x70>

Weakness:

needs to be less awesome and maybe a another button and then i might complain but i cant for what i got for free

since this model is 27 yrs old, i find that having any marantz(prefer better models) is well worth the keeping and using. anyhow, it dosnt matter what you have of marantz, the name has been preferred and recommend as "the bentley of home audio" for years(mostly in the 70s&80s). i find the 4270 able and much more suffecticated than what you would pay upward of $800 for now. as either one who is reading this because you either own one or are intersted in the fine marantz line, you are about to get a course of what the 4270 can do...

Similar Products Used:

none. although i have used good recievers(newer) nothing near $800, all my other stuff is on a shelf wishing they where made a MARANTZ............
