Harman Kardon HK 3490 Receivers

Harman Kardon HK 3490 Receivers

DESCRIPTION

This ultrahigh-bandwidth, high-current stereo receiver gives you 120 watts x 2 channels, XM Radio- and THE BRIDGE-readiness more. When two channels are all you need, you want an HK3490 from the company that invented the stereo receiver: Harman Kardon.

The insanely powerful HK 3490 combines all of an audiophile's must-haves (high performance phono preamp, preout/main-in jacks, high-current amplification) with an array of ultichannel extras (digital-audio inputs, video switching, dual subwoofer outputs and Dolby Virtual Speaker technology). Add The Bridge II docking station, and the HK 3490 will connect as elegantly to your newfangled iPod as it does to your time honored turn-table. The HK 3490 isn't a snob about where the music comes from, as long as it sounds great when it reaches its final destination: your ears.

    Strength:

The HK 3490 has been a solid purchase after going through 2 other receivers that only lasted 4 years. The sound quality is crisp and the unit blends seamlessly with the rest of the audio visual components in the home theater. masonry columbia sc

    Strength:

The Harman Kardon HK 3490 is unusually good-looking for a stereo receiver (or any audio component, for that matter), with curved side panels and a gloss-black and dark gray front panel that give it a sleek, stylish look. The HK 3490's sound quality is excellent. fayetteville concrete

    Strength:

Surprisingly good amp. Drives my T&A TMR 160 MKII TML boxes easily. That HK pumps up to 240W on 2ohms, 45ampere makes my TML's rumble. Very good stereo perspective, punchy, controlled basses. I suffered before with a Marantz PM7000, who was really stressed by my TML's (but soundstage was a bit better at tweets than this HK) , with State of the art digital input (Dolby modules if I'm not wrong) with tons of details. No noise, serious deep and full bass. For powerful music also for live jazz recordings more than sufficient up to upper hifi level. This hk is also fun to listen in lower levels. Virtual dolby is interesting feature. Very quiet and detailed mm input, though it can't compete with pricy mm/mc pre-amps. Rhis hk Never gets hot, even after hours of loud music (heat is no friend to semiconductors)¥. Impressive complete soundquality on FM with a wide stereo scenery.

    Weakness:

Not the best amp to realize deepness in music. Some more spdifs or digital coax inputs more would have been nice.

This receiver is not beatable by its price. Period. Dont think less of him because it is not the flagship, which is HK990. The HK3490 is beautiful, heavy, and has tons of power. I use it with KEF IQ90 and it is a perfect match. I doubt you will have a better stereo for its money. My player is Marantz UD7007. The REAL power is not 2x120, but its 2x 140 which is enough to make my Kefs pump VERY strong. Definitive amp for life
