Strength:

Good tuner by todays standards. Pre-out, main-in jacks.

Weakness:

Has the same remote control as the DRA-775RD. The 775 is an older machine so might be excused for not having the latest and best. What is the 685s excuse?

Craig, if you want to trash Denon do it on the unit you own, not one someone else owns. Besides even though the 685 sounds okay the 775 sounds better and has more features than yours. Plus they share the same crummy remote too! As if that makes them sound any different. Get your own uni-remote and be happy, instead of spreading misery all over the site.

Strength:

beautiful, clear sound; powerful. I absolutely love the thing.

Weakness:

doesn't produce mid-bass as well as the rest of the spectrum, which can be a problem if you crank it; bass tone control is set at 100hz, which makes the problem even worse. if you own one, you NEED an equalizer

I don't want a five- or seven-channel receiver, and I never will. I shopped for a long time for a receiver, and this thing is simply the best in its category. runs cool, thumps my combo of cerwin re-30s and cerwin ls-15s hard enough to crack the windows in a large room. at the same time though, the sound is magical. they can handle a very demanding impedance without getting smoky, but you have to keep the cover off at least one speaker to watch for clipping -- they do it bad a high levels, and you can't hear it one bit. this confuses me, but it's the mildest of complaints. The monopoly on denon products that the place i bought them has over this city made me cringe, but i only dropped about 100 more for it than i should have. worth it. I would have paid 1000 for this receiver if i had to.
the only thing i have left to say is that if you want a hard-hitting, durable receiver, don't buy a chip amp. this transistor stereo receiver is the best way to go, i don't care what people say.
