Strength:
the SAS 10A is a fine tube linestage that plays the Music very clean and extremely fast but at the same time it exhibits a smoothness that is very pleasing to the ear without sounding bland or sterile. in effect the SAS 10A gets out of the way and lets just the music shine thru.it has dual volume controls, five inputs and a monitor loop and it has a feature to reverse the AC polarity of the unit by means of a switch located on the rear of the unit . there is also a three position tonal balance control switch on the rear of the unit to add flexability to the 10A's sonic signature.this is truly a World class preamplifier that is shockingly inexpensive for the high performance that it delivers.
Weakness:
the only weakness that i can think of is the lack of a remote control volume, but it is a minor one and the designer avoided it to preserve the sonics of the 10A. it is not a biggie in my book. the SAS Audio Labs 10A could very well be the answer to a music lovers dreams. this is my fourth tube preamplifier and it is the ninth 2 channel preamplifier that i have owned. it is a Spartan but handsome unit with a basic black anodized finish and white lettering. it uses a pair of 6DJ8/6922 tubes and i know for a fact that it is the closest that this Audio enthusiast has ever come to listening to the ideal but elusive straight wire with gain. this preamplifier is extremely Neutral but it is in no way ,shape or form sterile. the SAS 10A is very musical with P.R.A.T in spades Customer Service I contacted Steve Sammet who owns, operates and is the chief Electronics Engineer at SAS Audio Labs in reference to making upgrades to my 10A. Steve was friendly and kind and as smart as a whip! i will be sending my 10A to Steve for modifications and even though it is hard for me to fathom,Steve assures me that it will sound even better when he returns it to me.thanks.....WCW III Similar Products Used: Anthem Pre1l,Balanced Audio Technology VK3i.Odyssey Candela |

Strength:
soundstage depth, harmonics, musicality, price
Weakness:
relatively high floor noise level *** this can be corrected Caveats and disclosures: First, my unit was purchased as a "demo" unit and the current incarnation of the 10A will probably sound better than my unit, which lacks certain recent upgrades. In other words, your mileage may be even better than mine. Second, most of what I have to say about the 10A applies when it is plugged into a PS Audio PowerPlant 300. The difference is important and quite large. Similar Products Used: Anthem Pre-1, Herron VTSP-1A, Monarchy Audio 22C |

Strength:
Very good detail, sound stage, and dynamics.
Weakness:
I had to buy it with my own money! Just when I thought the amps were a good deal my world is shaken to find out that the CD direct to the amps was not the best sound possiable. I now enjoy more sound stage, detail, and dynamics than I had thought possible. I knew my source components were very good but with the 10A it has been two sizeable increases in performance. I must admit to listening longer these days. Similar Products Used: Dynaco PAS 3, Audio by Van Allison, Adcom GFP 565, and Adcom SLC 505. |
