Strength:

sounds, latest software, software upgrade, and well engineered

Weakness:

Memory forgets setting once in a while, unfriendly remote

Here the components I matched with this processor. TV: 48” Sony rear projection TV Center Channel: Martin Logan Cinema Main: Monsoon FPF-1600 Surround: FPF-1600 Sub: Infinity HPS 1000 CD: NAD 541i DVD: Pioneer Elite DV-C36 changer and Sony NC650V SACD player changer Amplifier: Outlaw 750 (165 watts per channel) Power conditioner: Monster Power Cables and Interconnect: Straightwire and Nordost mix Let me just say that this is a very good processor. I like that fact that you can upgrade the software in the future. I have played Nora Jones, Sinatra, Sade, and Diana Krall on this equipment and the results are always pleasing. I have had Onkyo TXDS797, Sony receivers, Harman Kardon AVR320, and Pioneer Elite and so far this is my favorite. I thought of buying the Outlaw processor (950) instead of this but the possibility of future software upgrade had me convince that this is a better choice. The sound that this produces is clean, open and realistic. I enjoy listening to music with this hardware. The only 2 gripes I have are the remote and the memory setting. The remote is cumbersome to use. Furthermore, this equipment sometimes forgets the settings (such as Pro-logic 2 music, stereo, DTS-music) that I have (at least it does not change the speaker configuration). But in terms of sound and build quality, I recommend this highly. Go take a listen and I bet you will end up buying one.

Strength:

Sonic fidelity.

Weakness:

Not as many bell and whistle as the latest reciever.

Very few receiver can rival the sonic performance of this unit. I have owned a late model Harman Kardon reciever, and as far as DD and DTS decoding is concerned, the Rotel blow away my HK. Auditioned onkyo and denon flagship receiver but they just cannot produce the sonic clarity and smoothness of the rotel.

Strength:

Great sound. Great looks. Has all the features I'm looking for

Weakness:

Just the damn pop! If I can figure that out, and I really want to - I'd be totally happy.

Anyone hear a pop when switching inputs? I've had this for a couple of weeks, and if you let it play for a while, and switch inputs (or mute) you hear a small pop in the speakers.

Price, quality smooth sound

Weakness:

Unit gets real hot! Power cord. Cannot program my Toshiba 6200 on the remote. No direct access to soundfields without going to on screen menu system.

Nice unit, got it in silver still trying to get use to the look. I think Bob from Texas pretty much took care of the review for this unit. I have the 1066 paired with the 1075. Nice clean, crisp, detailed smooth sound. Precise imaging. Center cannel never sounded better. No tuner built inside which is good. Cannot go wrong for the price of this unit.I think I need the Rotel DVD in silver to match the other two pieces. Do not hesitate to get this pre/pro.I wrote a review in the 1075 amp forum.

Strength:

Quality, price, performance, upgradable software and user friendly. Also, the remote that comes with the 1066 is very good.

Weakness:

ALL Rotel power cords are UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

First I would like to mention that I install or provide consulting services for people interested in HT systems. I do this as a hobby, sometimes people will pay for the service but payment is not required. In general or typically most people have never owned a HT system and need help..... honest help! I have heard them all, $500 to $50,000 systems. Yes, the more money people spend the better the sound and dynamics get.....most of the time! How does the RSP 1066 fit in? The 1066 is what people call "A Big Bang For The Buck", I agree, the 1066 is exactly that! I prefer seperates so the 1066 is a winner there. Some of the 2x price audiophile grade HT prepros have the tuner integrated. I do not understand which/what direction these manufacturers are going, they are hot on seperates and then build a HT prepro with a tuner???? Back to the 1066. Sound quality is smooth and non fatiging, IMO this is very important, maybe the most important! Sound directed to the center channel is precise and clear, some of the higher end units are too harsh and bright. The center channel of a HT system is the most important, period! Do not get tied down by 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1, although the 1066 does have 7.1 capability. The 1066 maybe not as fast or crisp as 2x$ units, but for the money the small details are present obvious and tight. I would rate the "Rotel" reproduction as smooth and clear. Some people refer the reproduction as the "Rotel Sound". Next...the 1066 is user friendly and it is obvious that the designers had the customers in mind rather than trying to impress thier boss or competitor! The 1066 does not have all of the bells and whistles but most people find theselves using two functions any way, pro logic and stereo! This includes myself. This unit is an excellent value and is highly funtional, coupled with the Rotel 1075 amp or 1095 amp, you cannot go wrong. A serious and powerful combo is the 1066, 1095 and 1090....use the 1090 to drive the mains (Yes SIR!!!!). IMO too much power is a GOOD problem to have. Also I have noted that the 1066 is freindly with other components other that Rotel. Matching system components is a task within itself.... can be expensive and frustrating. Bottom line..is the Rotel 1066 perfect...NO, are other 2x$$ and 3x$$ prepros perfect...NO, let your ears be the judge. What is my system? Meridian and B&W....would I buy a Rotel...YES! This review is intended to be constructive and I hope the readers feel the same way. Enjoy the movie!!!

Strength:

Smooth non glaring sound for music & home theater.Ample connections.Excellent build quality.

Weakness:

Only has on screen display for set-up.No direct access to soundfields via remote.Remote chews batteries.

I agree with the last reviewer in reguards to the Rotel being superior to receiver based systems.I had used a Sony STRDA5ES receiver with a Rotel RB1080 amp to power the 2 main channels but decided to upgrade to the RSP1066(in silver)and a RMB1075 to power the center & surround speakers in my 6.1 set up.WOW!!This combo sounds incredible, great dynamics, very smooth and non fatiging with music and home theater. Not quite as user friendly as the Sony but I find the sound quality much better.I spend more time enjoying and less time tweaking.

Sweet sound?xD;?xA;Dynamics?xD;?xA;Rotel's firmware upgrades°

Weakness:

Well, until the bass management issue is cleared up, it will be a problem to some. Hopefully, they will have a firmware fix to end, once and for all, the double bass problem.p

The setup being used with the Rotel 1066 includes:?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;Mitsubishi 55859 HDTV?xD;?xA;Parasound 1205A Power Amp?xD;?xA;Arcam 27T CD Player?xD;?xA;Klipsch Reference Speakers ?xD;?xA;Hsu VTF-2 Sub?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;While 5 channel receivers can satisfy me in HT applications, they've so far come far short with regard to two-channel sound, which is important to me. The Rotel 1066 meets this need with a sweet, euphonic two-channel sound that has improved definition, dynamics, sound stage, clarity, detail, etc. than I've ever experienced with a stand alone receiver. No doubt, the Parasound amp also contributes admirably toward this end. The combo also bests any receiver I've owned with regard to HT. Considering that it stands up to much more costly pre-pros and does so admirably, I consider it quite a bargain and worthy of the Gold Medal recognition just bestowed on it by Stereophile Guide to Home Theater.?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;I'm very much aware of the bass management issues with regard to SACD and DVDA, but I'm also quite in touch with efforts thus far made by Rotel to refine their product via firmware upgrades, which have thus far been free to owners of this unit. They appear quite responsive to their customers and I've heard a rumour that they might be working toward a firmware fix to address issues such as this. Personally, it hasn't been a problem for me thus far.ˆ

Typical smooth and beautiful Rotel sound. For movies, it booms and zooms with the best of them. For music, it sings. I even get along with the remote, I can work it by feel. airy, detailed, fast, musicalI

Weakness:

i was unable to disable the subwoofer for music listening

I bought the rotel rsp-1066 with the rotel rb-1095 power amp (200 wX5) popwer amp , I paid 4000 canadian $ for the combo which is quite a good discount. I used to have an onkyo receiver which was quite good for a medium priced receiver, but it is no match for the rotel combo. the sound is more detailed and fast, the highs are smooth an extended and the bass is tight and deep. the power reserve seems to have no limit. I am using dynaudio audience 72 main speakers and 122c center. They are excellent speakers for the price, but they are low impedence, low efficiency and they need to be used with separate preamp and power amp to give their best. i auditioned them with an integra research high-end system which cost more than three times than the rotel combo. I swear that they sound as good as the integra research combo. I recommend them to anybody who loves musical fidelity as well as excellent home theater. I got high-end sound at medium price. I am very satisfied with the rotel processor.its precision, detail, smoothness matches everything that i have heard
