Weakness:

More inputs Could use some more bells and whistles A little better phono section

If you are getting tried of the stereo salesman trying to sell you the 2,500 plus pre amps. Then look no further the Rotel is the best bang for the buck.40 years in the biz plus a 5 year part and labor warranty. They give you alot and ask for so little.Alot of the Hi end company's are closing up.

Strength:

looks expensive, sounds expensive, is built to last, good value

Weakness:

none so far (maybe plastic remote)

I own the Rotel for about 6 weeks now (combined with Rotel RB-1070 power amp and Rotel RCD-1070 CD-Player, which is the best CD-Player I have ever owned or listened to, by the way) and have no complaints whatsoever. The sound is transparent and clean, I’m not the audiophile type of guy who wants to tell you about precision, timing, etc., but I know with the above combination I hear bits of sound on my CD’s I’ve never heard before. The design of the Rotel components is simple, as it should be, in my opinion. The remote doesn’t look like a million dollar, but functions very well. Apart from the very clean sound the Rotel components themselves seem to be very well build (heavy and metal instead of plastic). I’ve compared these Rotels to other, much more expensive T&A components at home, listening for hours with my maggies. These Rotels outperformed the pricier components quite easily, in some respects. I’d recommend these Rotel components to everyone.

Strength:

None compared to the Bryston.

Weakness:

Noisy transformer.

I traded this preamp in for a Bryston BP-25 after about 4 months of use. I could not cope with the hum from it's transformer, which was very noticable (to me) at low listening levels. In any case, I had no complaints about the "sound" of the unit when I was using it. The Bryston, however, is much more transparent and clearer sounding than the Rotel (and quieter as well. I think for the price of the Rotel 1070 the tranformer should be quieter.

Excellent, simplistic, articulate stereo preamp. No-Nonsense design which will please all but the techno-gear heads. Excellent budget stereo preamp. I have been impressed with this piece ever since it came out of the box!

Strength:

Simplicity and sound quality

Weakness:

None

One of the primary attributes that steered me toward buying this unit was its no-nonsense simplicity, an attribute I had been searching for in audio equipment for years. With this preamplifier, Rotel has eliminated just about everything except the bare necessities in terms of operating controls. Absent are certain features that many would take for granted on similar units: filters, contour button, and the bass, treble and balance controls. Indeed, the only feature that could be considered a form of tone control is the 5-position contour switch. While at first I would have favored some sort of infinitely adjustable set of tone controls, this contour switch has turned out to be more than adequate for my needs. Another strong selling point for me was the provision for hooking up a phonograph. In this digital age of DVD and CD, it was nice to see that Rotel has recognized that some of us still like to listen to our vinyl collections. The record selector function is another big plus in my book. Most importantly, the sound quality is excellent. Although simple on the outside, this is a sophisticated, well-designed and nicely constructed unit, and is a great value for the money.

Strength:

sound quality is excellent built like a tank use of metal over plastic quality parts inside and out Uses a Torridal transformer

Weakness:

The fact that it is Chinese made is somewhat of a turn off. I( suppose it could be made anywhere and Rotel's quality can still be good. Hum in headphone mode...........None of this is a big deal

This is an awesome pre amp. It has an excellent build quality. Quality internal parts are one of the major plusses (Toshiba chips, Siemens switching relays and the venerable Rotel Torridal transformer!). The sound is amazing, except for the small hum you get when using the headphones at no volume setting. This hum is not heard when you hear the music, and the sound is so good it doesen't matter at the irrelevant no volume setting. They must all do this, since i promptly returned to the store to try my set of headphones on their pre amp. Even with their Sennheiser headphones, you could still hear the hum. Not a big deal, a hum is better than a hiss, which it does not do. This thing can take a beating of a lifetime. It is VERY reminissent of the very good Pioneers of the early 80's, build quality wise, sound wise MUCH better. It does need a little while for burn in. At first it sounds harsh, but mellows out after that to a superb sound quality!! One downside, why did they need to make it in China? I was put off by Rotel at first because of this. I suppose that this is not a big deal, but cheap things are usually made there. Oh well, Rotel has this factory there and has complete control over their quality control.

Strength:

Simplicity, build quality, specifications, warranty.

Weakness:

If you want bass/treble controls you won't like the "contour" control.

Terrific unit. Marked improvement over what I replaced (vintage NAD 1020). Very solid, neutral sound. Don't mind absence of individual bass/treble controls for the "contour" control. Just the right amount of inputs. Simplicity in function. Very pleased so far.

Strength:

Simplicity, looks, ample inputs. Recording selector.

Weakness:

Remote, but I've already programmed it to a universal remote, so none.

This is my first separate pre-amp combined with an RB-1070 power amp and B&W speakers. I will never go back to integrated amps. The simplicity of this unit is unparalleled (from what I've seen). I like the switching knobs and analog volume control. A steal for a retail price tag of $500.

Strength:

Sound, 12v triggers for switching other components on and off, separate record&play back selectors, 5 year warranty

Weakness:

The remote is unstable when using upper buttons. The volumecontrol is unaccurate when using the remote (too loud or too soft). Price = 600 Euro.

I bought this model to match it with my RB-1070 power-amp, for the phono pre-amp and for the 5 year warranty. The first model was replaced, because the right channel was a lot louder than the left channel. It sounds terrific; actually you can not hear the amp, because it adds nothing to the signal you don''t want.

The Rotel 1070 is simply a great preamp. I sounds terrific, looks terrific, and is priced terrifically. I especially enjoy its simplicity in looks and ability to articulate hi''s as well as lows. My system includes a Rotel C/D player and Paradigm Active 40 speakers.
