Long break-in period

This site is for reviews, not for winers who get upset if their review is criticized. I've owned the VK50SE for nine months and feel its the best upgrade I've ever made to my system. I can't imagine how anyone can dislike the sound this preamp puts out. The VK50SE sounds very open, detailed, fast, and transparent. It's rich in timbre with incredible midrange. BAT has always made great products. Their VK-60 amp is to die for. Trust me folks, there ain't no $500 preamp that's going to touch the VK50SE. I really think that alot of people with Circuit City budgets write negative reviews of high priced gear because it makes them fell better about not being able to afford them. I'm no dealer just a guy who enjoys music.

It's not the warmest preamp in the world, but you won't ever mistake this for solid state. I like the extension this preamp provides. Most of all it was more bubbly and inviting than my previous Airtight - which was still a good piece, just way too laid back for me. When my changes were made, it was just preamp for preamp. So I can scientifically say that the 50VKSE was a decent step up the "musical ladder", at least for me. Now if only Victor will make the tubes affortable when we need them. But he is not only very clever, he is also a decent guy, I bet he will.
If you are thinking of getting Levinson's "Prima Donna", try it, then give the 50SE a listen too.
