Audio Experience Symphonies Preamplifiers

Audio Experience Symphonies Preamplifiers

DESCRIPTION

The Symphonies, line level preamplifier designed by Mr. Chui Sat Sung,
each component is carefully built using "point-to-point" hand wiring and select grade components.
“Alps” volume pots, “R” core power transformers, “Dale” resistors, “Wima” & “Phillips” coupling capacitors,
and silver coated, Teflon insulated, high quality copper internal wiring, create a perfect blend of superb electronic engineering.
The Symphonies, pure tube preamplifier reveals crystal clear details, eloquent musicality, with absolute neutrality.
(3) 12AX7A vacuum tubes are used in the stage and a one 6X4 for the power supply.

Features

Huge dynamic range, both the beautiful tone color and wonderful rhythm ,
ultra linear circuit of the line stage designed for the DVD - Audio and SACD source in the New Century.
uncanny natural flowing heart-stirring sound that matches any other ultra-Fi products on the market .
The Line stage made by Hand built " point to point " on YS-Audio factory.
"point to point" has become more focused, the soundstage is deeper.
Hand built by " point to point ' is very high cost of manufacture !
The installation of the tubes line stage is special designed , it can prevent RF interfere and vibrate interfere,
It has become very clean soundstage and saw the musical instrument hang up in the air.

The 6X4 Tube rectification opens up the soundstage and allows the music to "bloom".
The melody flows naturally, like a river. In contrast, solid state rectifiers emit
electromagnetic pulses that resonate throughout the audio circuit and add an
electronic haze that can be perceived as a highly unnatural noise or grain.
The unnaturalness of the solid state rectifier's turn on/turn off cycle creates a choppy,
edgy feeling that over-emphasizes the leading edge of transients at the expense of a
harmonic completeness and does not allow the individual notes to rise and decay naturally

Strength:

Price
Bass response
Clear sound
Nice Looking
All around good sound

Weakness:

Can not really think of any.

Very nice tube preamp. For the price on the used market I do not see how it can be beat ! With some nice tubes, it does what it should. It is clear and on the warm side with Amperex ECC83 tubes. I compared it side by side with an American made tube preamp that cost 3 x as much, used. The Symphonies had better bass response, was a tad warmer and was lower in gain. Just a better sounding amp all around.
It is very good to add to a solid state power amp. The impedance is low enough that is should work with about any solid state amp. If you are on a budget and need a preamp this is a good one to pickup. It will really help out some of those not so great sounding rock & pop CDs.

Strength:

Clean, clear, smooth and muscal. Great fit and finish.

Weakness:

Intermittent balance control.

This is a great preamp for the price. Heck, this would be a great preamp for three times the price. In fact, I've used it in several high-end stereo shops to try out their speakers and have been told it sounded as good as their $1500 preamps. I thought so too, but it was interesting to hear them say so.

The sound it gives my Monitor Audio GRE's is just amazing. It is very clean, smooth and musical. I bought the Symhonies Plus ($650) by the same manufacturer and to be honest, I like this cheaper one better. Chinese audio equipment has a reputation for being too sweet and also for coloring the music. This cheaper Symphonies does not seem to have those qualities, where the more expensive Symphonies Plus does.

Customer Service

The balance control became intermittent after a year. I sent it back to be repaired in warranty and they had it back to me in good shape fairly quickly, considering I had to send it to Hong Kong. Now the balance control has become intermittent again. I am pretty sure it is just a wiring problem. Since it is out of warranty, I will repair it myself. You might need to be handy with a soldering iron if you own this preamp.
