I have had this preamp for three years, no complaints so far. I use it with a GFA-555 and a GFA 555II. It is a great value for the money, I would love to get a Krell but I don't have $3K of extra cash around.

Strength:

Convenience.

Weakness:

Sound.

Being happy with my Adcom amp (better than my Quad 405), I sold my old Quad 44 preamp to buy an Adcom GFP-555-II, more convenient. Error ! The sound is degraded compare to a direct link between my CD-player and my amp. The noise level is slightly lower than with the Quad 44, but again, the sound is not as good (the Quad is more "musical"). And things are even slightly worse if you use the "normal" output, with tone controls and capacitors.
More positive : very well built, very convenient, not expensive, quiet.

Similar Products Used:

Quad 44, Quad 33.
