Strength:

Sound output quality clarity at almost extremes of output built to last look and feel innumerable connects at the rear end

Weakness:

None in the audio output Direct / Pure switches - never felt the need for them. lack of tone controls on the remote

The first time I heard this amp ; i was thrown back physically by the audio quality which it could extract from a rather scratched out old pink floyd cd. I read elsewhere on this page that loudness control was a nuisance but you need to listen to your sattelite radio through this amp and you will know how well the loudness control helps shunt out the tendency to a boomy bass and softer than required vocals. The speakers that were used to give me the demo (wharfedale floorstanders) were just the right match for the amp with a tight and punchy bass but i have to make do with inferior ones - my pockets just couldnt stretch that deep.

Loudness

I still love it! I'm using my amp, for over a year now, and still like it! The only weakness is the loudness function, this sucks, but hey, who needs that?

Strength:

Strong, sweet and simple. Can use as discrete pre-amp/power amp combo.

Weakness:

Not many I notice. Contrary to what others have noticed, this unit will get quite warm under the use here described. A Class-B amp, solely.

Can only repeat many other praises in this file. Very good value for money. Here's what I wanted to do -- purchase decent integrated amp to use with my relatively new Magnepan MMG's. Was using a Sony integrated claiming 80 W./channel. It could not cut the mustard. These speakers are excellent, given their price range. ($550/pair, sold only over the 'net.) They are particularly good for acoustic music...guitar & fiddle, etc. are as immediate and lifelike as I have heard in a hi-fi set-up, ever -- barring high-end Tannoys or some such. But they are energy hogs. 4-ohm load, & not real efficient. But this amp is a solid performer, good match for my needs. Plenty powerful, good tone controls which you can sidetrack if you want to. Accurate & musical...Everyone seems to think they've got a great set-up, but if I was advising a newbie about a brand-new setup, I'd say get what I've just described, plus a decent CD player (maybe ~ $200) and you can take home a very decent system for under $1400. Then add other equip't (tuner, etc.) as finances allow...Powerful enough for any small to mid-size room [mine's about 12x20 feet, 8-ft ceiling.] And get set to kick musical *ss.

Strength:

Strength:

Superb audio quality at an excellent price.

Weakness:

Limited # of inputs. No line level output. Below average remote.

I use my AX-596 with a Yamaha CDC575 CD Player a Yamaha MD Recorder, Boston Accoustic VR40 speakers, and a $10.00 Radio Shack tuner. Don't laugh. My system sounds excellent at an extremely reasonable price point. Smooth, accurate, warm sound. Lots of punch in the low end without sounding mushy or distorted. Clear, crisp highs without shrill in the vocals. The yamaha Amp & CD are excellent. Also, I've had no problems with the unit since I purchased it. I highly recommend this component.

Strength:

power and more POWER,Price and can be used as pre-amp or power amp and also it allows me to make digital recordings off of my digital TV box, solid build, runs cool and doesn't need much room for ventalation, high current and clear

Weakness:

There is not enough inputs for me anyway and you need to have the jumper in to listen to music

I have a Teac reciever that I use for HT and sometimes a pre-amp for this product. The reason I bought a the reciever and the integrated amp is because I couldn't find a high current reciever that had a digital out,pre-outs and all of the other features that I wanted for under $1000.00.So I bought the Teac for $389.00 canadian and it has 130 watts RMS and I have Axiom M80's 400 watt 4 ohm speakers so I needed something to drive them and this integrated amp was about same price as a power amp and it had the power and price I was looking for.I bought mine for $600.00 canadian. This integrated amp will also make recordings off of a digital box and my reciever wouldn't do that and that was important to me.My reciever was a little trebley for music so I wanted something powerful enough to drive my speakers and something clear and after great research this was the one for me.I like the fact that it has a loudness roll dial because I also find it has too much treable and this feature allows you to adjust it.It is built very well and it is a perfect match for my speakers and my whole entire system.I spend 22-23 hours a day laying in bed because of a back injury and my budget was low but this system keeps me happy.I use all Axiom speakers and my favorite ones are the Axiom M3Ti's and these little things will out perform Paridigm Monitor 20's($1150.00),Bose 501's ($1200.00) and they are about $280.00 canadian. You can go to soundstage.com and read the awesome review they got from the professionals and not the comission salesman and believe me they could put a fansy cover on them and sell them for three times the price but they are a canadian company.I am not an audiophile nor would I hang around with someone who pays $500.00 for a power cord and actually don't like them because they raise the prices for good quality equipment because manufacturers know they can charge any amout of money and the people will buy it when really there is a mark up of 400% to 500% on some stuff and even more in some cases.I do know what sounds good and I wish people would set up audio equipment to demo and have the guy test out stuff and you keep your eyes closed because it is like buying the car that lookes good rather than the price versus performance issue.Believe me you can do a very impressive complete HT system for under $3000.00 canadian.

All in canadian $
Axiom M80's $750.00 6 Drivers 400 watts 4 ohm
Axiom M3Ti's $280.00 2 Drivers 175 watts 8 ohm My fav
Axiom VP 150 $350.00 5 Drivers 400 watts 4 ohm
Teac AG-D9320 $389.00 130 watts RMS in stereo
Teac RW-D250 $400.00 Dual Tray CD Recorder
Pioneer DV-C503 $400.00 5 Disc DVD Player
Yamaha AX-596 $600.00

Thanks for your time and spend your money wise and buy from a reputable store like for example I talked to a guy at costco and he said a person returned a lazy boy chair that was all chewed up and 6 years old and he got his money back no questions asked and I even returned a pioneer HT package that was three months old.Go figure.

Strength:

Boasts incredible power, heavy speaker terminals, heavily build, deep dark black coloured, can be used as a power amp

Weakness:

Not both terminals accept bananaplugs, when dvd-direct switch is on no other input can be chosen, you need to like the yamaha sound

When they hand you over the box you can feel your back tighten, it only weighs a back breaking 11 kgs. I like that, makes it feel really worthy. This amp is not like them plastic amps you can buy, it is fully metal and cold. The fascia is clean and a front panel conceals the minor controls. I love the yamaha sound so i cannot say i have a problem with that but some may have issues. I like the way that it does not seem to have corners or anything, it just sits there on my rack and it is so black, more black than any other brand i know. You have a pure direct switch and a cd/dvd direct switch that allows you to listen only to this input. Inputs are gold plated, and there is plenty of space to fit a thick cable. It is wonderfull that they installed a pre out/in, it is a hell of a power amp or you can bridge it. If you want to push it to the limit, you need a descent pair of speakers because it will blast you out of your seat. It will not get warm but that is because it is a class b amp. I never turn it off, it may stay on to keep warm. This amp gets low bassline even out of small cabinets without distortion. Yamaha says it has 2 x 100 watts in 8 ohm, but you should not believe it. It goes louder than the 100 watts. (Hifi-choice) All in all, i am glad i bought it. If you want power and clean sound....

Strength:

Simplicity, tight bass, power, all that at a great price.

Weakness:

none

I'm really really really satisfied with the way this AMP takes the input sound, amplifies it at a desired level and sends it to my speakers... leaving the sound as the composer intended it to be...

The remote, in my oppinion, looks better when you peel of the plastic coating on top of it...

For quick and cheap 3D sound I've purchased a sort of minitower (Phillips compact audio system with input, output and 50 Watt speakers) that can be attached to the rear speaker output of my DVD player...front speakers, of course, go into the Yamaha...
Besides input this minitower also has output... So I also use this minitower as a tuner and CD player (next to playing CD's with my DVD player)...
