Strength:

Great power suply, sound quality, definition on mid and highs, great bass reproduction and control

Weakness:

Wierd A speaker terminals (resolved as you will see in the text) that didn't accepted banana plugs or spade lugs

This is a great amp that integrates beautifully with my KEF Q65's. I listen to all kinds of music, and this amp has the quality it needs for reproducing the most detailed sounds on classical music, and the power to handle the most brutal Black Metal bands like Immortal and Emperor.

I chose this amp (among other things) because of its high dampening factor, essential to reproduce the thumps of Immortal double drums (up to 10 beats a second!), while still mantaining control over the speakers to reproduce - to the utmost detail - all the work going on the distorted bass and guitar, vocals and cymbals. This kind of sound is very demanding to the power suply and the dampening circuit. The amp has proven over these years that he can reproduce with ease even the most brutal sounds of the most brutal band. In fact I never used it over 10 o'clock on the volume.

On the other hand, this amp is also extremely detailed and crisp when it comes to reproducing music like Dire Straits Communiquè "Private Investigations", where you can hear everything, from Mark Knopfler's fingers sliding over the guitar chords, to the drummer's breath. Playing classical music is also a joy, specially music with piano or harpsichord, that gets reproduced with great detail and fidelity. I have a CD of music from Cuba, the same songs I heard on bars and restaurants (unplugged) when I went there, and the sound is exactly the same: if I close my eyes it seems I'm still there. Of course, I always use the pure direct and CD direct settings. The bass / trebble / balance / loudness aren't necessary anyway.

The only flaw on this amp was the speaker terminals: they where of a type that only allowed for bare wire insertion, and made almost impossible to bi-wire with 6AWG wire. I removed the terminals (after warranty expiration) and replaced them with a new block made of 8 gold plated binding posts, ready to bi-wire. This mod and the gold plated banana plugs made a lot of difference, expanding the sound both in the low frequencies and the high frequencies.

I think the best way to express the way I feel about this amp is that I can listen to it all day long, with any type of music without ever getting tired. And what can I say about the price? Its a killer!

I'm glad that Yamaha made the DSP E800 (SL+C+SR), so that I can still use this amp in my new home cinema setup (L+R), because it would be very difficult for me to give up this amp for an integrated A/V amp.

Even with the "flaw" I still give it 5 stars because the "flaw" only applies (applied?) to countries inside the EEC.

My setup:
Yamaha AX592 Amp
Panasonic DVD RA61 DVD (replaced my Denon DCD-735)
Yamaha KX580-SE Deck

I have had the AX592 for 1 year. The sound is great as is the power. In fact my whole system is from the Yamaha line, CDC765, and the TX492 tuner running the Polk audio RT1000p. I have one major problem with the AX592,using the remote I cannot change from one component to the next. switching from CD to tuner causes the indcator dial to "hunt" back and fourth for about 20 seconds. Very annoying! The place that it was purchased from promises me it will get repaired.

Just got mine at Good Guys for $473.00. It sounded GREAT at the store. Traded in on a Sony 925 receiver (tons of features, same price, but the sound was nowhere near comparable. Really looking forward to trying it soon. I will update you then!

This little piece of tecnology it´s a truely achivement. I don´t understand those out there that found any fail in the amplifer. The main feature of the amp is the pre-main coupler, that allow you to conect your equalizer (My it´s a yamaha EQ-550), and gets the most of your room (it´s allways better a good placement of the speaker and well built listen room). In the power, I have even listen to 250 w PA, with big speakers and their are miles away.´You can direct amplificate the cd input, and even complete bypass the bass/treble circuit (for those who want pure line). The only drawback it´s that only cd input is gold plated. Ergonomics it´s magnific and is not big enought no notice but not to overwhelm the rest of your system.
I really recomend this amp for anyone who likes stereo music and wants and smooth performer that don´t take all the blood from your wallet, this is your choice.

For those how like to know those things, my actual equipment it´s:
- Yamaha AX-592
- Yamaha CD-765
- Yamaha EQ-550 Graphic Equalizer
- Klipsch Synergy KSF 10.5
- Creativelabs Encore 6x DVD player
- Pionner (not remember the model right now) record player

Strength:

Lots of Power, Clean sound and tight controlled bass.

Weakness:

None

This Amp is the sh*t!!! I've loved it since the day I bought it, and I wouldn't trade it in for anything else. It is capable of driving speakers to loud levels with very little distortion, (nice clean power) and I would recommend Paradigm speakers as a matchup. If you are interested purely for listening to music rather than home theatre, this is a great amp to get. Yamaha delivers a great line of high end audio components, and I would recommend their cd players also. Try them out and you won't be disappointed!

Best integrated amp for the money. Specs as good as
(if not better) the expensive integrated by Krell,
Classe, and Bryston. Get it!

Strength:

No lack of power, heavy high-quality construction, clean simple design

Weakness:

None that I can see

The AX-592 handles all sorts of music: orchestral, jazz, rock wonderfully. Subjectively, it has an open, clean sound that never sounds distorted at any volume levels I've had it at. It has plenty of controls that allow you to tweak the sound a little, most of which are hidden behind an access panel. The price was terrific as well (less than $500.00 US).

Strength:

Good looks, solid construction, plenty
of power, natural overall sound

Weakness:

None to mention

I'm a relative newcomer to audio. I
started out with a Yamaha rx-595
receiver and a pair of Paradigm
monitor 9 speakers. I wanted to step
up to a "heavier" amp as I planned on
upgrading speakers. Reccomended ws
the AX-592. I'm glad I purchased it
(around 700.00 Canadian). What a
great amp !!! It can run all day at
reasonable levels and stay cool while
still producing very natural vocals
and highs. It doesn't get used to
drive out power hungry bass signals as
the bass is rolled off of my main
speakers (paradigm reference studio
80's) and to the sub in my system
(paradigm pw-2200, recently upgraded
from a ps-1200). In this set up, my
ears would start to bleed before the
amp would be tested. 10 o'clock on
the volume setting is almost too loud.
The volume has never seen 11 or 12, it
doesn't need to.

Very impressive amplifier, especially
given the price. Highly recommended !
