Van Alstine Insight Integrated Control Amplifier Integrated Amplifiers

Insight Integrated Control Amplifier

The Insight Integrated amplifier combines the functions of a preamplifier and a power amplifier in a single, compact package. It is likely the highest performance integrated amplifier in existence and certainly the best value. It generates 90 watts per channel, 20 to 20 kHz, into 8 ohms and comes packaged in our new big SL chassis: 17" wide, 11.5" deep, 3.5" high. It uses 4 TO-3 case power MOSFET output devices. For 4 ohm loads and up.

We have taken our amazingly musical Insight power amplifier circuits and have carefully increased the gain of the circuits to provide full preamp/poweramp capability. It has all the standard switching and control functions found in the Insight SL preamplifiers along with heavy duty 5-way binding posts for speaker outputs.

The amplifier's 90 watts per channel are more than enough for most domestic applications and most loudspeakers. (We use it to drive a pair of SalkSound Veracity HT3s in our listening room). It has all the switching and control functions you are likely to need. It has dynamics, resolution, and imaging equaling our best solid state pre amp/power amp combinations. Unless your power and/or switching requirements are out of the ordinary, real music has never been easier or more affordable.

Purchased new from Van Alstine and had to wait a bit but worth it. Added double die option with extra mos-fets and used in 2 channel stereo for small to medium sized room with Marantz 8003 CD player, Kimber wires and various speakers (Salk Ellis 1801 floor stander, Paradigm Studio 10, Infinity Classia and Polk Rti book shelf.

Overall this is the best integrated I have heard. Sound is neutral, clean and sounds like music without complicated system matching. There is no remote, appearance is functional and power is modest. In comparison I have listened to a Marantz 15S1, which was OK but I never fell in love with, same with last generation Rotel and NAD integrates and a Parasound Classic amplifier and various tube preamps including Audible Illusions L1 (very good). The strength of this unit is a balance in all areas, no obvious weakness and the value of direct sales for affordable audio. Although I am no expert I would guess in traditional stores this unit would sell for easily $2,500 or more. Deserves a review in one of the audiophile magazines.

Thank you Audio by Van Alstine (the whole team) for making affordable products. Highly recommended unless you have a difficult speaker load and need to play at a volume to make your ears bleed.
