Hi Glenn
I hope my review helps. My front end is Naim 3.5 cd player. The Onix amp is the OA21S (50 Watts) which comes with its SOAP power supply (optionil). My suggestion is to use the power supply as it makes the amplifier sounds much smoother, sweeter and controlled. The speakers are a pair of Rega EL8 floorstanders.

The whole setup is in my apartment's bedroom which is a small one. I carefully matched the system in view of my room's specs. Presto! What a musical joy!
The sound is superb, sweet and not at all fatiguing. I could listen to hours at end. The bass is controlled and tight, the treble sweet. It is the synergy of the whole system that gives this system a superb sound. I can vouch for that as I had once a full Naim 72, hicap and 250 power amp driving the Naim SBLs! Though the latter base is deeper it is not as controlled as the present setup due to the old harmon kardon cd player I had once. Enough said!

The Onix I have is 35 watts and costs 695 dollars with phono output. It is simply the best integrated amp for under a grand that I've heard. It blew away that much touted Creek Stereophile praised recently.I liked it over the Arcam, the Adcom, heck it ran stride for stride with a Krell bottom end set up (if you can call $2100 bottom end). The Onix had much smoother highs than this et-up. Give a listen to this little, very powerful guy. See if you don't agree. It is one of the biggest bangs for the bucks out there.

ps to above. Onix in 1996 was sold to an Asian firm. This product is cheaper and inferior to the England made version. Be sure the back of the unit states it was made by Onix electronics Ltd. England or you have wasted your money. The only current distributor for the England brand is in Wisconsin.Your Onix dealer should have this ordering source.

Strength:

Great vocal, good low down bass.

Weakness:

None I can think of.

I just bought an ONIX A60 integrated amp after having a heavyweught Nakamichi AV (rated 100 watts in 4 channels)for about five years. To my astonishment, despite a rating of 60 watts the Onix came through my Energy Reference 22 as a much more powerful and cleaner amplifier. It makes a mockery of the power rating. Vocal was incredibly good, so as the low down bass which makes my Nakamichi thinny. For the money, I think the ONIX is a great amp. You got to listen to it to believe it.
