Suprised to see I'm the first one to review this amp in this site. After hours of listening to several amps to accomplish my Marantz 63 KI Sig. CD player and B&W CDM 1 SE speakers, I've come to one conclusion: in this priceclass there's not one to beat the Marantz. The music sounds incredibly clear and transparant, but not one moment too harsh or 'treblish'. The musicality and warm sound of this amplifier is only beaten by its distinctive looks alone! Highly recommended.

Strength:

imaging, detail,agile bass

Weakness:

thin,brittle,tiring sound, lean bass

this amp has caused no end of trouble to me,i upgraded from the p.m.66 se..thinking it would be similar, but better, how wrong could i be..! i was using it with the c.d.63ki.cd player,i tried about 20 different sets of speakers to try & get the sound i wanted, but to no avail....so i realized the problem was source * amp....& sold the c.d.player......Big Mistake..y did i ever buy this thing....WARNING..do not use this amp with it's so called matching partner..(66 ki cd player..)you will be dissapointed......the c.d player deserves it's reputation........but partner it with a better amp (& i don't mean more expensive than the p.m 66 ki

Strength:

airy, clean and clear sound

Weakness:

Small, weak bass. Too much emphasis on soundstage and depth. Sometimes spitty treble.

I bought this amp almost 2,5 years ago in combination with a Marantz CD63 KI and Kef Q35 speakers. The sound on the whole was good but after a while I got tired of the dark midfrequency tuned Q35 speakers. So I replaced them for Mission 774 speakers. The sound was very different and better also. Then I noticed that the CD63KI bass was on the whole too warm and lush sounding. So I replaced this one for a cheaper Sony 920 Cd-player. The bass was much more natural and tight but without being cold sounding. Then I noticed that the sound was quite small sounding with to much emphasis on depth and instrumental positioning. But I hesitated for a while to buy a new amplifier because the Phone-stage, which I used frequently, was quite good. In several shops I heard the Sony TA-FA30ES amplifier and I was impressed by it's solid bass and very natural character with not only a deep soundstage but also a wide soundstage. So I bought this one early this year and I'm very pleased with it.
For others the PM 66KI may seem the best sounding amp for the price, but I think the 30 es sounds much better with A more solid tight bass in combination with excellent dynamics and a smooth and pleasing character.

Greetings Robin
