Strength:

Extreme power! Clean, detailed, neutral sound.

Weakness:

Ok...if I have to gripe about something, the volume controls on the remote are very sensitive. For my preferred listening levels, I will at times just utilize the volume knob on the integrated.

I recently made the decision to minimize most of my audio toys that included my preamp and my well favored 200 watt monoblocks. My monos drove my 6 ohm NHT 2.5i's with power and finesse and I was trully worried that my budget would not allow for an iintegrated to fill the shoes of my previous amplification. Based on previous reviews with this product, I decided to look into the Denon PMA 2000IVR. Found one used but in prestine condition. As soon as I hooked it up, I was completely blown away by it's ability to drive my NHT's. My expectations were exceeded by miles from this 80/160 watt powerhouse. Power, slam, tonal neutrality and quiet backgrounds would best describe the sound. I recently did some tweaking to this unit by replacing the single 10amp and two 5amp fuses with PS Audio Critical Link fuses. I also reconfigured my home brew speaker cables from bi-wire to the bi-amp set up. It took the performance to an even greater level! I can't this unit past the 10 oclock on the volume setting without my friend prompting me to turn it down. If you want a great used integrated for under 500 bucks, I strongly recommend this product. This is a keeper!

Strength:

Quality construction, hefty weight, the whole unit just oozes quality. And the sound is rich, warm, controlled. You simply cannot find anything better at this price point.

Weakness:

It is HEAVY, so be prepared to sweat a little when you move this amp around.

I looked at many integrated amplifiers in this price range before I finally settled on this Denon integrated amplifier. The current model is the PMA-2000IVR. At the time, I looked at Yamaha, Cambridge Audio, Rotel, NAD, Marantz, etc. None of the other integrated amplifiers even came close to offering the finesse, power, the bass control, and the clarity of this Denon. This Denon weighs in at 52lbs, which is almost DOUBLE the weight of the other integrated amps. Traditional class A/B power amps need solid power supplies to make them sing, and beefy power supplies weigh a ton. Plus you also need quality heat sinks to dissipate the heat. All these add substantial weight to the amp. You simply cannot skimp on these aspects of amplifier design. The weight of this Denon at 52lbs reassures me that this is a VERY solidly built amp.

This Denon is rated at 80 wpc into 8 ohms, and 160 wpc into 4 ohms. Don't be fooled by the low power rating. Denon must be really understating the power rating for this integrated amp. Because right now I am using it to drive a pair of Polk LSi9 speakers with average impedance of 4 ohms which can dip into 2 ohms in bass heavy passages, this Denon able to drive my Polks without even breaking a sweat. The amp hardly even warms up after extended periods of music playback. I cannot say the same thing about the other integrated amps driving 4 ohm loads. With this Denon, I usually listen with the volume control at the 9 o'clock position, and that is PLENTY loud. Anything past the 11 o'clock will get me evicted from my apartment.

Now to the sound. How does it sound. I just love the sound. This Denon plays back everything with a sense of ease, finesse, bass control, richness, and warmth, that just puts a smile on my face every time I hear it. Sure you can spend thousands of dollars more to get separates that will probably sound better than this Denon, but the question is, is it worth the extra cost? For my needs, this Denon exceeds my expectations.

Strength:

Build quality, soundatage and audio quality.

Weakness:

None

I bought this amp just after listening to NAD 372 and ROTEL 1062. The soundstage is almost 3D. The mids are much more detailed when conpared to NAD and ROTEL. I had oportunity to test the Brystol and Primare but the PMA 2000IVR sounds better. This DENON souds like Accuphase but costs less than Accuphase. The bass is deeper and controlled. The build quality is terrific. Excellent value fot money.

Strength:

Great midrange and highs, powerful and well built with well laid out controls and switching is quite good.

Still a great value

Weakness:

The base can be a bit much but if matched with base shy speakers it works out great. This is a heavy unit and it can get quite warm in use.

I purchased this Int. amp for a smaller second system and to be honest I did not expect much. Boy was I "Shocked" this is a great piece of equipment and even after all the years that this Int. amp has bin around in one form or another "mine is the current PMA 2000 IVR" it's still a great buy. Yes there are better but you need to spend aprox $ 800.00 more for a small improvment in base control, Soundstage depth and whith.

Strength:

Vety neutral sound quality. Clarity. Deep and full bodied bass. Built quality. Simplicity. Excellent Phono stage.

Weakness:

May be the price I paid 70K INR equivalent to almost 1600 USD. Otherwise nothing.

An excellent product in terms of tonal quality. It suits very much my taste for music which are more mid range oriented. Using with KEF Q7 and it rocks all the time. I had to pay little more due to the tax and import dury structure in India. Othewise it is a value for money for the US price tag of 900 - 1200 USD. A very simplistic UI where as the power is huge. Not at all can be placed with other Japanese products. The best part os the phono stage. Also value rating, is mostly based on the price I paid for buying it from a dealer in India which is actually due to the cost structure in India. Otherwise at a regular proce tag of 900 - 1200 USD the value rating should be 5.

Strength:

Great nuances, powefull ( 80w 8Ohm and 160w 4Ohm) dynamic sound. Translucent.

Weakness:

Quality.

I bought the Denon 2000 pma IVR version 1400€ from Helsinki. I also keep it runing 5 days and sounds change better every time. Great nuances and powerfull dynamic sound. It plays all kind of musik. 3D information is not the best possible. I buy this amp july and it fall apart next mont. The best soundet integrated amp that i`ve owned, but quality is not so good. Bad luck, probably. I byed that amp dealer, who not ordered with importer. He fixed that att once but it not Work. Toneless, sound/noice listen mostly left and it`s not sharp. Five stars.

Strength:

Clean, warm, natural and very detail sound. Good sound stage. Female vocal is excellent. Better than many expensive pre/power amp. Extremely well built.

Weakness:

Really none at this price range.

This is just a follow up on my previous review after almost 2 years of owning this amp. The sound is still excellent. I still remember it took me a while to decide which amp I should get. I can honestly say that I would choose this amp over the others if I had to do this again. I just like it more and more every time I listen to it. I replaced the speakers a while ago with a pair of JMLab which is a perfect match with this amp. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Strength:

Turn on, put the peddle to the metel and hang on. Very clean with the head room of high end botigue sound. Very inspiring sound scape. Makes you want more and more and more.

Weakness:

almost got a harnia lifting her, but made me feel proud of to say shes very heavy and built like a tank.

spending $500+ was what I was looking to spend on a new amp. I wasn't lueard towards anything but the nad 370 at first. A local store let me take this home to try out for a few days. I hooked it up to my klipsch 3.2's and was pretty impressed. I decided that I wanted to start from the ground up on a new amp and was willing to spend more than $500-$1,500 on one. Times have changed since my early years of buying stereo gear. I'm very straight forward on what I like. I don't like a lot of bells and whistles, I just wanted a amp with clean power and a volume knob and with a few inputs and outs. After listening to a few consumer products such as pioneer, onkyo, panasonic, jvc, sony, denon and a few botique companys I broke my search down to the denon pma 2000 ivr. Personally theres nothing that even comes close to this amp in this price range. Its been said cheaper models such as nad would be compareable, yeah right, I don't think so. I brought different amps home and a-b them to the pma 2000 ivr and everything else went back to the stores. Crutchfield has been a great experience on buying this product. Free shipping both ways and their 30 day trial. I'm very picky about spendind money on anything. I feel when I buy something that's it, til death do us part! This amp is a great fondation to build on. I plan on adding more power amps and speakers down the road. It was very frustrating to decide what I wanted to spend this kind of money on, but after comparing the tests that I did, it was will worth the head ache and time.

Strength:

Incredible value and very very good sound. Outstanding build quality. Plenty of power and plenty of reserve. The power supply in this thing is huge and at 'only' 80wpc it's cleaner and more powerful sounding than my 110wpc receiver.

Weakness:

Compared to my CJ and Cary tube amps, the Denon is not as transparent sounding and it doesn't have that nice 3-dimensional soundstage and midrange many tube amps are known for. But I would hardly call this a weakness in the Denon's price class. The Denon PMA-2000IVR is an incredible value. Make sure your equipment rack can support this monster.

I'm pleasantly surprised! I bought my used Denon PMA-2000IVR for the bedroom but decided to give it a try in my main audio / home theater setup downstairs. At over 50 pounds and 'just' 80wpc, the Denon PMA-2000IVR sounds hugely more powerful than many wimp 'audiophile' integrated's that cost considerably more. And this integrated isn't just about power as it handles the subtleties with finesse. It's not quite as transparent as my vacuum tube amps but we're talking about a sanely affordable integrated here! I'd pick this Denon over NAD, Rotel, Creek, Arcam, Bryston, and a couple others even if I bought it new and had to pay full MSRP! One of the reviewers here complained that his earlier model PMA2000R didn't have an optical digital input. He felt that an amp of this caliber should and he went on to say that the newer model PMA-2000IVR has it. Well, the new one doesn't have a digital input either and why would it? It's not a multichannel A/V receiver. It's an analog 2-channel stereo integrated amp!

Strength:

Totally quiet circuitry, superb build quality, beautifully detailed sound.

Weakness:

No optical input, black instead of gold finish.

I decided to buy a B-stock unit from eCost.com (they had the best price) after reading the reviews here. This is for the PMA-2000R, not the PMA-2000R IV; the differences between the two models is probably sonically inaudible. I felt safe buying a B-stock unit because the majority of returns, I was sure, was harshness due to insufficient burn-in--a frequent complaint of those buying a new unit. Denon B-stock units have been thoroughly checked by Denon and resold with a 90 day warranty. My amp had only a few small visible nics; other than that is was in perfect shape. The quality of the sound is just as others have described here. I can hear nuances in instruments and previously unheard vocal details that leave me smiling. The PMA-200R uses many of the same components used in its very expensive top-of-the-line amplifiers and preamps. I currently listen to CDs through a set of Koss Pro-4AA headphones. The only thing missing from this amp is a digital optical cable input. Why an amp of this quality does not have it is a mystery. This oversight was corrected with the current PMA-200R IV model. I should add that this amp was, and the current IV model is, available in a handsome champagne gold finish--in Europe and the Far East. The U.S. gets basic black and that is a shame. I would strongly recommend this amp and at the price for a B-stock unit ($380.00 is a flatout bargain; others sell them for more)you just can't loose. You can get complete specifications from Denon's website or just search the web for info.
