Strength:

Transparent, dynamic, detailed -yet sweet and airy sound.

Weakness:

None -once combined with a 3B for mid-rage/woofer.

Its been a long time coming but, a change is gona come.

When I got into serious hi-fi because of the emergence of CD playback, I ended-up getting a LINN turntable and some LINN and NAIM electronics. I must admit that around the time of the purchase of the NAIM I did listen to a BRYSTON 2B and loved it. But, according to reviewers their equipment was suppose to sound harsh and after all they were Canadian and, how could something from Canada compete against the 'motherland'!

Well, for years I have always felt that my system was dry and lifeless, specifically non-envolving. The system is based around the LINN Sara 9 speakers, Wakonda pre-amp and LP 12/Sondek. Different power amps have done duties over the years. Now, we all now that it couldn't be blamed on the SONDEK!

When a friend purchased a BRYSTON integrated B60 and was invited over to listen, I was amazed at the sound and it gave me the opportunity to again give BRYSTON a fair try. With his cooperation the BRYSTON found its way into my system under different confirgations. The best combination was the B60 acting as a pre-amp while driving the tweeters and a LINN powertek for the mid-range/woofers. The result was a big step up, very enjoyable and involving.

Not done yet we borrowed a BRYSTON 3B from the local dealer. After different combinations, we again settled on the B60 for the pre-amp and tweeters but, with the 3B for the mid-range/woofers.

MAGICAL. The best of both worlds. The sweet, airy sound of the B60 and the control, detail and quickness of the 3B.
My Saras came to life and, when we transferred to his residence, his Spendors S3/5 sang like never before. Instead of using all the well known adjectives, we both agreed that everything was right. The music was dynamic, controlled, detailed and a focused and holographic soundstage was produced. And, just as important given their past reputation, no matter how loud we set the volume AT NO TIME DID IT GET HARSH.

In my quest for a more involving sound, I had been listening to, among others, the new NAIM 5 series and various tube electronics. I am now convinced that the BRYSTON has got it right, especially if we combine the best of both their strengths. Yes, the 'tubes' make everything sound nice but, accurate I don't know. The B60 on the tweeters gives you the air and sweetness while the 3B gives you the best of the rest.

They say our reference should be live, unamplified music. That's fine but, for me it would be to be in the studio when the music is being made. With the BRYSTON combination I felt like I was listening in on the studio/recording session. If this is what reviewers mean by transparency, then it was A+ by me.

If you have a B60, you more than owe it to yourselves to borrow a 3B and passively bi-amp. Get your credit card ready, because once you do you won't be able to go for long without ordering one. My friend is saving and I have put my electronics for sale to buy BRYSTON.

Given the implication for and of the 3B, I plan on posting this review under its namesake.

Strength:

Perfect Highs

Weakness:

Lacks Bass Extention

This is a remarkable integrated in many ways as it delivers a good high end sound for the bucks. You wont be using dark cables to hide treble problems either. The highs are as smooth as anything I have heard. The downside is a lack of bass. I auditioned the B60 but opted for something else because of the lack of fullness. People with more efficient speakers may have better luck than I did so it may be your interest to audition this piece if you are interested. If Bryston can add a bit more bottom to the B60 I will buy it. In the mean time I use a Jolida product.

Strength:

bright, clear, clean highs and mids. Nice imaging.

Weakness:

bass is full and deep, but is slightly lacking in the really low frequencies.

I am not going to regurgitate everything that has been said. Don't shy away from the low frequency cut off. The lows are very satisfying. The tradeoff is worthwhile.

You must replace the pre-amp to amp jumpers. The difference is night and day. Imaging and soundstage improved and the bass became much deeper and more pronounced. Again, this is mandatory. I went with Audiquest Python and was blown away.

The next tweek will definitely be the feet (It's hard to connect spade plugs from the bottom when the amp is only about a half inch off the shelf!). Any suggestions anyone??? I think a lot of the audiophile technology (especially wire technology) is voodoo science (i.e. it works/sounds great but we are not sure why). But if anyone has ideas, fire them my way!

This integrated is way worth the price. A great value!

Strength:

Extremely clean, detailed sound

Weakness:

A stretch in price for only 60 watts

Ok, I'm ready to tell you what's up with the B60! If you're tired of playing the mid-fi game then here's a good place to step up and swing into the high end! Right away I noticed the music was a hell of a lot more natural and cleaner than what I was used to. I love NAD because they sound better than the Big 3 of low-fi (Sony, Pioneer, and Kenwood) but switching to the Bryston was like entering a completely different arena! It's been a couple months now and I feel that it has broken in pretty well. Well-recorded music explodes from this little amp causing all kinds of goosebumps! I opted for the phono stage over the remote and feel it was worth it. (Although sometimes I wish I would've gotten the remote) The phono stage is very clean and dynamic as well. Save your money and get it! I don't regret this purchase one bit and it was more expensive than my car! You have to have priorities!

Strength:

Extended but never offensive treble

Weakness:

Speakers need to be matched carefully

I don't have much to add to the reviews below except to say that I don't understand the comments about this amp sounding cold. The lower treble/upper midrange actually sounds very warm to my ears. Strings are particularly luscious (one of the reasons I chose this amp).

Associated equipment is an Arcam Alpha 9 CD player and Soliloquy 5.3 speakers (bi-wired).

I bought the amp with the optional MM phono stage and will try to post a review of that later.

Strength:

Treble is silky smooth, awesome sweetness in mids.

Weakness:

limited power output, small binding posts.

Reposting after about a year of great listening. This unit continues to play great. I have, however blown 3 power fuses since. Factory service replaced one, and the dealer replaced another. The dealer scratched the cover, and rounded the screw heads. BUT, Bryston replaced BOTH COVERS, and all the screws, no charge. Now that's service!
Give this little fella some room to breathe, to keep cool. and it's reward you with some fine sound.

The increase in treble clarity is incredible compared to my previous stuff.

Strength:

Beautifully neutral; incredible detail on voices; timeless simple design

Weakness:

60 watts

I simply cannot imagine how someone could give this little jewel of an amp a low rating. I've been an audiophile for 20 years and have listened to a lot of equipment. The B-60 is my all time favorite little amp. It is built so well, has such clean lines and such remarkable sound. It is virtually noiseless; with true "blackness" between notes. It has such sweet yet warm highs and vocals to die for. My B-60 is hooked up to Monitor Audio Studio 2se's and is cabled with Transparents. I enjoy this system more than the big systems I used to build (at considerable cost). I give this little amp 5 stars across the board, not because it's the best amp in the world (it is not). I give it 5 stars because of what it does with what it has. It a mini high end wonder for those of us who build mini highend systems. Thanks Bryston!

Strength:

Absolutely zero noise in the pre-amp section combined with a sweet sounding amp (almost silky in its presentation).

Weakness:

Match your speakers carefully

I've owned this amp for almost 2 years now and I still get a kick out of its outstanding presentation. It has a super pre-amp to it and even though there are occasional times where I wish I had more power, the 98% of the other times I'm in sheer heaven! I'm running a powered sub through the pre-amp out into a 65hz filter so the amp itself is running fairly efficiently but is hooked up to moderately efficient speakers (87db).

I love its simplistic, yet elegant look and of course the 20 year transferable warranty can't be beat! I figure that with the versatility of the B60 to be used either as an integrated amp or only as a pre-amp, it'll be with me long enough to enjoy its maintenance cost-free life!
