Strength:

I picked this up brand new with 2 yr warranty for Aus$1700, half RRP. Absolutely silly money for a big monster Power Amp. It runs Class A switchable up to 50W. There is a subtle smoothing and a touch more depth in Class A than A/B. It is a step up from similarly priced Parasounds, Rotels, Nads, Emotiva's etc. Nice big soundstage and space between performers. Plenty of headroom to drive Power Hungry Speakers down to 4ohms. It sounds best when driven by the Vincent SA-T8 Pre. I have an Emotiva XPA-2 in my massive collection. It makes the XPA-2 sound broken.

Weakness:

Well even though similarly specced and same Company it's not the SP-998 Mono's although, no S/S Power Amps @ Aus 6k are. I've been spoilt with the SP998's which compete with or better Power amps, double their RRP. Compared to the sublime SP-998's, there is a slight edge to the mid's, bass grumbles a little, cymbals sound like they are struck a little lighter. It doesn't have the total control of the SP-998's. So do I recommend the SP-994? For sure, I'm confident it will beat out any S/S Power Amp at anywhere it's cost. It's just not the out & out giant-killer the SP-998 Mono's are. Recommended.
