I bought this Tecjhnics Su a700mk2 amp, as a gift horse from a popular auction site, some £35. previously i was using a kenwood ka-5050R Which was as far as im concerned, a solid bass generator amp.

So firstly it has a 45wpc output, It comes across as being a little more powerfull than that, it has a tape 2 loop for a graphic eq. it is a pleasing amp with reasonable bass, without sounding muffled, has nice clear treble..too, if you have a big pair of speakers youll noticethe volume dial goes up halfway or over to get them pumping.. Im using cerwin vega ve-12f, So haveing read all the hype about its big brother su-a900 i went for that,, and to be fair there no difference in how it sounds just a little underpowerd. I respect this amp for its sound and price.

Strength:

clear sound,good midles

Weakness:

light bass

I bought this amplifier based on these reviews.I agree with ohters opions.Every mentioned features are right:it reproduse very good rock, jazz, rap, clasic music. But what i did not like abaut this amplier, that it reproduse hard beats/punch which irritates me when i listen trance or house music. The bass is common for all technics amplifiers, but is should be more powerful, now is shallow/light..But may be the bass depends on speakers.I am using with sony speakers.I am thinking abaut cerwin vega"s speakers which are very sensetive, and can give me more bass with this amplifier

Class AA MOSFET amp, 45W per channel at 8ohms, 80W at 4ohms. The most important elements of this amplifier are light mid and upper frequencies.
Treble is very transparent with good details, center is a bit too quiet, bass too shallow. Su-a700mk2 reveals sound in two ways: quite precise with small bands, and significant loss of soundstage and depth with larger bands. I think
for $400 US you can get better amps like Nad 312 or Denon Pma 425R. I rate it
** price and *** sound.

This amplifier looks great and has a lot of functions. Its remote controller not only adjusts the volume and switches inputs, but can also control and turn on/off a CD player, cassette recorder, tuner, etc. from the Technics range. It has six inputs and can drive two pairs of speakers simultaneously. The power (50 W/8W) is enough for most situations. The sound is very clear and powerful, but in my opinion lacks punch at low volume. A loudness switch, though hated by purists, would be welcome. A gold plated headphone jack and a tone defeat button apply to the audiophiles who have to pay only 250$ for this excellent product. The SU-A700Mk3 is very versatile but particularly good with classical music or jazz. The only question is how can one change the tape sources from the remote?

Strength:

Midrange and soundstage

Weakness:

slam

Purchased this several years ago at J&R when they were on sale. The only one left was the floor unit but it was only 100 bucks so it landed in my bedroom system.

Originally I was running some small Boston Acoustic book shelf speakers, supplemented with a Radio Shack passive sub (the port stuffed with sox, of course).

The B.A.'s and R.S. sub have migrated now to the kitchen set-up and presently I am running a pair of B&W 303's with the Technics.

The unit seems solidly built and I appreciate greatly the absence of useless features/buttons ... and the inclusion of a tone defeat - a useful button. The unit sounds like it puts out substantially more than its rated 45 watts per channel.

More importantly, it sounds relaxed, lifelike. It gets the all important midrange right. Pianos and guitars, in particular, sound as they should. Vocals are smooth and engaging. Not surprisingly, the sound stage is not equal to hi-end separates but pretty darn good. Music fills the room instead of being beamed from the speakers. I find the reproduction of width to be a bit better than depth.

The bass is surprisingly solid and warm but not quite as fast as perhaps it should be. My various Pioneer receivers have more slam through the B&W 303's.

Finally, the transformer emmits a noticable buzz and an very soft but still obnoxious high pitched "whistle". However, I attribute this as much to the piece being a demo unit as anything else.

By now, these would only be found used, but if you find one for 75 bucks or less I'd say it is a bargin and recommend snapping one up if you are looking for a no nonsense, cheap amp.

Strength:

Provides clean, deep bass at low volume levels. Warm, smooth sound overall; well built system friendly; remote control

Weakness:

45 WPC may seem a little underpowered on paper, although for most modern speakers this is ample. Can sound a little too soft and rich when used with music based around vocals

Despite some of the comments submitted about this amp, I think the SU-A700MK3 is a great amp for the price. I drive a pair of Cerwin Vega VS-10 with the Technics amp, and find that it pumps out powerful bass (even at low levels) and a zingier treble than a lot of amps at this price. With rapid trance and dance tracks, music sounds rich, expressive and well detailed. Everything you need to enjoy music is there, from the warm, big bass to silky-smooth strings.
Please feel free to email me with any agreements or disagreements you have with my opinion on this amp.
