Strength:

too many to mention.

Weakness:

none that I can see so far.

Actually I am writing this as a " follow up " to the review I wrote earlier on the VTA-70i. I noticed in my " price paid " section that I wrote " $550.00 " and that was a mistake. I actually paid full price for the unit ($1,000) and with tube upgrades and such....that brought the price up to around $1550.00. My mistake. I didn't want to mislead readers into thinking I paid less than I did and have them thinking: " Hey why can't I find a VTA-70i for $550.00 like that guy on AudioReview.Com? ". Sorry for the mistake. I am not sure if the VTA-70i is still made by Sound Valves. I know they offer kit versions of the VTA-70B for $899.00 and completely built units for $1099.00. I think the VTA-70B is a great deal like the VTA-70i in many ways. It too is a 35/35 watt amp made in the classic British Electron Tube design. As I said before, if you are wanting to get into tube equipment but don't want to spend a great deal of money, you won't do any better than Sound Valves.

The VTA-70 is an absolutely wonderful sounding and very well built stereo amplifier with 35watts of pentode power or 18watts of triode. These are not Dynaco remakes, but new designed tube amps with adjustable bias via led lights. Excellent parts quality, stable operation and long tube life. They also have 4,8 and 16ohm output taps. This would be a best buy amplifier along with the Sonic Frontier Parts Connection LM-40 kit amplifier, similar design using EL-34 output tubes. Search these out and buy them, they are excellent for bi-amping or for mono-block usage. I would give them a five star rating!

First and foremost quality valve tude amps are expensive. Having research many makes & models on the internet, I ultimately bought a SoundValves VTA 70i 35- watt/channel triode tube amp. Soundvalue offered the kit on a special for $700.00 last summer, I took advantage of the offer and received the amp kit in late October. Several weeks passed before a friend that is a electronic technician and I assembled the amp. The assembly process was straight forward,I read the direction and position the wires for solder and Brandon fixed the joints. Four hours later we where listening to my new valve tube amp. It takes some time for all the tubes to burn in, several days of continuous play. I have had the VTA 70i for almost a year now and its the backbone to my system, This amp has brought my Klipsch 201(Heresy 2)to life. Its so open and dynamic, the horn midrange speakers sing the horn and vocal tracks life like. I use this amp in a bi-amp arrangement via a electronic X-over network, this allows a lot of adjustability, paired with a Phonic MAR 4 (400watt/channel) solid state amp to drive the 2-15" sub woofers. I have been very please with the performance of the VTA 70i and would highly recommend it for the value conscious tube amp buyer. This unit is $900.00 normally and is still a relative value at this price and maybe impossible to beat under $1500.00 to $2000.00! Dont be afraid to assemble it, though it is offered for $1200 pre assemble, it a simple project and a lesson in fundamental electronics.
