awesome headroom,.. very close to the ideal amp!!

Weakness:

gets pretty hot at times....but does not shut down and keeps on rockin

usperb amp for the cash...you could spend 10,000 on a krell or levinson and i guarantee the sound will be better with the rotel...will withstand a beating where as the krell will go intp protect mode when it gets to hot( so much for the big guy ..huh?) a real powerhouse of an amp!!!.
great sound as well for the money. FOR THE MONEY YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER SOUNDING AMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Strength:

Tonal accuracy,Dynamic headroom,Transparency,Internal Build quality, overall sound.

Weakness:

None for the money the amp costs.

Listen up folks......this is a serious amp that has no flaws whatsoever......internal transformer hum????? The other reviewer must have gotton 2 lemons when the amp FIRST came out........this amp is completely transparent.....it really doesnt add any of its own "character"......my equipment used with this piece are....Revel Salon speakers,GFP750 preamp in passive mode.....wadia 850 and adcom gfp750 cd player......MIT SHOTGUN XLR interconnects with 8' length biwire shotgun speaker cables........when you hear people say the amp has a more forward or recessed sound in the midrange.....they're most likely describing the CD players characteristics not the amps......ive been switching off between my 336 levinson and Palladium's now with this amp for a month.........smoother than the palladiums...........and im having a hard time telling the difference between this amp and the 336.......its that good.
the reviews on this amp are completely accurate.....would recommend this amp to anyone NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY CAN SPEND!!!!!!! Serious amp period.

Can't afford those 5,000 dollar amps!!! Well no need to worry the Rotel RB1090is here to save you. I've owned Adcom, Acurus, Aragon and Rotel's...
Previous Rotel amps were 985, 991 & I still own the new 3 channel 993... But
I was ready to buy big & spend some serious cash.. I own all Reference Studio
Paradigm speakers including the New Studio 100's which I have biwired....
My Preamp/Processor is a Classe' SSP-25.. All Cardas Speaker cables & interconnects... I compared several Amps including Classe', Krell, Mark Levingston & Proceed... All were two channel Amps and I narrowed it down to the Krell or the Classe'... When I went back to the Audio Dealer to give the two a final listen to my surprize my Salesperson recommended I give the 1090 a listen... I compared the three and could not believe my ears when I picked the
1090... The Amp just worked great with any pair of Speakers. The Imaging & Soundstage was the best I've heard and it didn't matter what kind of music I
played from Black Sabbath to Enya even Madonna... It just out performed &
muscled the other two Amps... Compared to the classe' which was 250 watts per channel it had much better bass & control or the speakers, The highs were just
slightly more forward then the classe' but the voices were right on... The
instruments sounded real and were placed perfectly as if Madonna was there..
The Krell was closer to the performance of the 1090 but Bass was tighter &
the Amp had more control.. Both handled all the types of music I was playing
except when I played music like Enya, everything seemed much more real with
the 1090 also with music like White Zombie the Krell sort of lost control
of the music and the singers voice's was better with the 1090....

So after I picked the 1090 I figured well this is going to cost me but much to
my surprize it didn't... 2,000 dollars for this Amp was just very hard for me
to believe... I couldn't believe I was walking out with only spending 2,000
when I thought I'd be spending much more... Give this Amp 48 hours to break in
and give it a listen....

Strength:

Accuracy, control, clean, detail, resolution, no rolloff, very flat signal, natural, extreme high power.

Weakness:

Break-in time (3+ weeks). RCA inputs sound 1-2% better than using balanced for short runs. Big monster weighs 80+ lbs.

Sound:
- The RC-995 and RB-1090 combo IMO does sound better than the KAV-300i when compared at the dealer but it also does cost a little more.

- After 3+ weeks the soundstage opened up alot using balanced inputs but it still appeared slightly compressed on soundstage and depth when compared to the RCA inputs using the same short wire runs. But, then again this problem could be my 995 preamp and maybe balanced would sound better on long wire runs?

- Using all type of music, I found no fatigue when listening for extended periods at different volume levels. The 991 did show some listening fatigue (run for the door or turn it down).

- Using Robbie Robertsons (1st CD) and I found deeper bass, timbral accuracy, soundstage, depth, and resolution as more fuller. This amp is also smoother and very delicate with its presentation. Found no rolloff or any forward attributes on either side of the spectrum. 991 failed to give this level of accuracy or resolution from bass to treble and IMO did sound more compressed.

- At the dealer and at home the impression I get is that this amp has an ability to run very relaxed, at ease using both the B&W 802s3 or Nautilus 803 without any sign of strain at any volume level.

Behaviour:
- Never runs hot, at best its just luke warm after several hours of up to half power. The 991 did run (ouch) HOT under the same conditions.

- This amp only buzzes for a few second at startup or if I use my hologen lamp on the dim setting on the same circuit.

- Because of its size and weight, it could be difficult for some people to manage. In a cabinet, bottom shelf supports and 4+ inch clearance are mandatory.

Meets my needs for a difficult speaker to drive and a lot more of everything. This is an over kill amp but I am very happy with my purchase.

Strength:

Power, power and lots of power.

Weakness:

A long break in time. The Weight.

I am very sorry to tell my ML goodbye, and i am very sorry when you look at the price difference between Rotel and ML.
So much more cohearence. I have never listened to a amplifer more "airy" After a break in time of 3-4 weeks. I have had only Mark Levinson products for a time period of 15 years, but not anymore. I am just sorry that ROTEL dosn´t have the name that ML has. But as i can see, it´s about to come.

Strength:

High Power and Price - Tough to find better at less than 5 grand.

Weakness:

No real weakness - Lacks ultra refined looks of megabuck amps.

Well, I finally picked up my replacement for my Sunfire 300 x 2 stereo amp, the Rotel RB-1090. The first thimg I want to say is wow!! Not only did this amp impress me in the showroom, pushing on the Krell models I compared it with,(not quite as good as the Krells, but very damn close-95% as good), but from the second I pushed the power button I knew this was a serious amp. This is definitely a better amp than the Sunfire. The Sunfire lacked a little in detail
and in the bottom end, but I should mention the Sunfire produces a very liquid midrange-midtreble. This amp just sounds right, it has great detail and an excellent overall sound. I've been through alot of different amps that all had some compromise in one area or another, but the Rotel
does everything right. It doesn't seem to impose any sonic character of it's own. Smooth dynamic sound that never gets tiring even at high levels for long periods. Clean detailed treble with a stong bottom end. At $2000.00 retail, I can't see spending more on an amp. Also, try to match it's awesome power for the asking price, impossible.
Enough said, go out and listen to this amp for yourself, you will not be disappointed, I promise you!!

Strength:

Deep controlled and powerful bas. Low price for a "heavy" poweramp like this.

Weakness:

Long break in time and heavy to handle alone...

I have had this THX Ultra poweramp for a year now and use it on my Von Schweikert VR4 loudspeakers.

After breaking in (about 3 weeks) I found deeper bass, timbral accuracy, soundstage, depth, and resolution as more fuller. Great midrange!

This amp is also smooth and very delicate with its presentation. Found no rolloff or any forward attributes on either side of the spectrum.

Incredible holographic soundstage with a "basement" bas that didn´t pleased my next-door neighbours...

...and I will rather play till my neighbours move instead of sell this great Rotel RB-1090.

what more can you require for 1800us$?
