Strength:

Smooth, silky performance.Excellent value, great bass, great company service, prompt help and general inquiries answered right away.

Weakness:

Bad supply of fuses?(or maybe the cat)

Being married to an Audio Enthusiast, and the holiday season WE had to make a trip to our local pusherman.(Wives will understand this is an addiction)After a call saying he had a pair of M120's just arrived we drove down. Here take them home for a week, try them out, see how they sound.(Sound like the dealer at the schoolyard, free sample, just enough to hook you!)Our dealer did warn us they smell while breaking in(I didn't notice it).Well they were pure heaven for the fifteen minutes till one fuse blew out.So the next morning we have to call the dealer tell him we have blown one amp out(mind you we haven't paid a cent yet)and pray for understanding. The dealer called Rogue Audio and the OWNER Mark Obrien called us back.He gave us the quick fix so we could finish our test and well they never made it back! We paid for them that week and are thrilled with the sound. Some of our old music we are hearing things we never heard before. We are using them with the Rogue 99 pre-amp,and Paradigm studio100's.We are totally amazed with the quality for the cost.

I have owned a H/K Citation 16 for the last 25 or so years. The H/K has been a flawless performer. I visited several audio stores to audition power amps and preamps. Little did I know what was in store for me. I auditioned quite a few tube power amps and loved the sound, however, the prices blew me away. Enter the Rogue M120 mono blocks. I purchased a pair to audition at home with the understanding that they could be returned. Yeah, right, you would have to pry them from my cold dead fingers to get them from me. The key to this amp is to allow them to warm up properly. The manual says they are ready in 10 minutes. I waited approx. 10 minutes and listened. As the amp got warmer, the instruments seemed to settle in to their appropriate places and the amplifier seemed to get airy and transparent. The bottom end was solid and the mid range was very smooth. Cymbals, triangles and light tapping instruments seemed to really not have an origination, they sounded free and detailed. I could go on,but all of you need to hear them for yourselves. I just cannot understend how Rogue sells these for the price they do,now I want their preamp too.

Strength:

Sounds like Music!

Weakness:

Does generate large volumes of heat.

I've owned many different types and brands of amps. Carver,Denon,Hafler,Adcom,Kenwood(Wouldn't let my dog listen to Kenwood.),and H.H.Scott.Solid state, tube, class"A",class"AB",etc. These amps from Rogue are, by far, the finest amps i have ever owned. I purchased mine at a demo sale,(With Sovtek Kt88 upgrade.), for $2000. What a great deal. Even at full msrp these amps would have been a great bargain. I use these amps with Vandersteen 2ce sigs, a very symbiotic combination. If you own Vandies you simply must try the M120's, the result is a highly detailed, powerfully dynamic sound. The soundstage is breathtaking. One feels the emotion of the music, not merely hears the sound. And all of this for two grand. Makes you think of all those people who spend 5,10,20 grand, and wonder what they are smoking. If you are in the market for an amp upgrade, but are leery of tubes, or think $2,000 for the best value,(In amps.),available today is too much, or too little, All I have to say to you is; Be a man/woman, and check them out. You won't regret it. My related equipment is as follows; Musical Fidelity a3cd, Pro-Ject 6.1 w/ Sumiko Blue Point and Creek phono pre, Anthem Pre-L1, Kimber silver streak interconnects, and Kimber 4tc+8tc in Bi-Wire. Awesome system, if you don't mind my saying so. Peace be with You!,Dave

M-120 Magnum Updates to all M-120's

Just letting all M-120 owners know that Rogue Audio and Mark Obrien now offer Magnum updates/mods for all M-120 owners. The amps are basically rebuilt with new critical components, wiring, etc. The upgrade is $1295 for the pr and includes a upgrade in tubes. Be sure to try the new KT88 Mark Obrien has found, they are sweet, magical and spooky! : )

I recently auditioned these speakers at my local hi-fi hut (moondance Audio),...let me tell you after these things warm up which is about 10-15 minutes, and believe me it's worth the wait..it's kinda like waiting to get a very handsome check cashed! It's really that good!!! These monoblocks sound like tube amps costing at least 4 times the price, i originally heard these amps with the krix monitors and then with novas two-way towers, although the towers had some midrange grunge around 800 hz this was a speaker problem not the amps! I can only say again these things make music sound unreal in the most realistic way! Please go and audition these amps if you dare, but be prepared to trash your existing pre-amp and amps because these baby pumps out 120 watts of pure sound!...........Highly recommended,.....of course!

My musical tastes are eclectic so I look for versatile equipment combinations that are sonically satisfying and just as importantly, affordable. At the point my hardware investment begins to exceed $10,000 I start to pucker, so ideally each piece of equipment should provide an improvement corresponding to it's price. In this endeavor, the Rogues excel.
My Dunlavy SCll, Conrad Johnson PV10, Velodyne HGS12, McIntosh arrangement worked well but I was looking for the added detail, soundstaging and sweeter highs, etc. that tubes offer. A closet bass freak, initially I was a bit disappointed. Although the Rogues will get down there, I missed the quick low end 'pop' that my solid state amp provided but raising the crossover frequency on my sub brought probably 80% of it back. The result is violins that float, vocals that are 'right there in the room', and bass that'll still startle me.
Yes, the amps need to be warmed up and when they are you could probably heat leftovers with 'em. They're not pretty but the chrome and gold plating that other manufacturers lavish on their equipment, while aesthetically pleasing, does nothing for the sonic quality and only helps making them absurdly expensive.
If you're interested in tubes with watts, and not interested in 'bragging' to your friends how expensive your equipment is, I highly recommend a serious audition. The money you can save will buy a lot of music.

Strength:

Dynamics, power, and quickness.

Weakness:

None, so far.

My systems includes the Sonic Frontiers Anthem PRE2L preamp, Sony SACD 777 cd player, Goertz Alpha-Core Sapphire interconnects, and Audioquest Midnight Bi-wire speaker cables. Also using Vandersteen 2 signatures. The first thing I noticed about these beautiful amps was the quality of the build and the machining. They are like works of art. Mine are the Magnum model with black faceplate and the cool blue power light. They sound great right out of the box and continue to improve upon every listening session. They are very dynamic and very dark during lulls in the music. The soundstage is not only wide, it is deep as well. And this is not due to the speakers because I was not previously realizing this with my previous two amps. Especially the Rotel. It was a horrible piece that sounded very electronic and harsh. I also previewed Mark Levinson monoblocks (out of my budget)at five times the price of the Rogues and I would say there was almost no noticeable difference besides a small amount of quickness. Concerning the customer service of Mark O'Brien and his friendly staff in Broadheadsville, Pa., they are very facilitating in every aspect of the purchase. Mark himself will answer the phone and talk at lengths about his product and answer any question you may have honestly. I give them all two thumbs up for my entire experience. I plan on keeping these amps for a long time and plan on upgrading my preamp to the Rogue as soon as I am able. Please feel free to e-mail me with any comments or questions.

This is truly a great piece of audio gear. Its simply defies its price. It breaks the stigma that great audio gear has to cost a fortune.I guess it does when you have to support large empires like some of the big boys out there.Your money pays the large salaries of the many exex and the huge adverising budgets.Rogue is a small company which sinks the money into the product.Mark O'brien the designer owner answers the phone responds to email. You see he does not have the overhead the big guys have. What he does is put the money into great design and parts.Theses mono's are warm sweet sounding with the right amount of everthing you need.Good tonal balance mids and highs are breathtaking. When it sit in front of them not only do i hear the music i feel it.This will be the last amp you ever own.Mark now offer a Signiture version of this amp which upgrades alll the passive parts and the transformers and others things.Even without the upgrade this is truly an outstanding amp.I have heard amps at twice the price not sound half as good.
