Strength:

Warm full sound with little colouration.

Weakness:

For the money paid - none.

Being new to the world of audiophiles I saw a Quad 33/303 in a shop and was intrigued by its looks. I was impressed by a demo and by the extremely reasonable price so I stumped up the cash. In short this ranks as one of my most shrewd buys. Produces a warm full sound and squeezes every last drop of character out of whatever it plays. It may lack the precision of modern units, but is easily the most "entertaining" amp I have ever heard. Wonderful. Does particular justice to jazz and, er, hard dance music!
Question, why are these little buggers so cheap?

Strength:

Detail, imaging, bass extension.

Weakness:

Din connector.

I use this amplifier in an unusual capacity ... in powering my center speaker (JM Lab Cobalt) and subwoofer (Design Audio) on a home theater system. (I have also used this amplifier to power my Magnapan 1.5s, but switched for a McIntosh 240 for that application).

This is a very nice amplifier. Compared to many solid state designs, it has a sweet sound. The amplifier combines detail, crispness, soundstage, and bass extension in a fairly compact box. The Quad is also quiet and pretty forgiving of the loads it drives. Given that I drive the amplifier directly from a DVD player, I use outboard line controls (Goldpoints mounted in a box with goldplated RCA jacks), which would appear to be awkward, but is really quite convenient.

I would guess that a multi $K Krell design would be a better solid state unit ... but I really don't think the Quad is easily surpassed, particularly if you can find one for less than $500 (as I did).
