Note: I bought this amp used for under $400 delivered to my door. Very cool!

This is a well built little tank of an amp. 100 watts/channel, all channels driven. The toroidal transformer is very big and heavy, almost 8 inches in diameter. And, even though it is rated at "only" 100 watts.channel, this amp has enormous power reserves with 20,000 uf of capacitance per channel. What this means is that it is almost impossible for this amp to run out of steam when the going gets frenzied - can you say "headroom"?

The build quality is great, nice tight seams all around and it has good quality, solid connectors. And I love the fact that the front panel is very plain and unadorned. No flashing lights and dancing LEDs here, just a simple, dimly lit pushbutton for power - great! I hate having my home theater dominated by brightly glowing LEDs and such, completely unnecessary! And this also tells me that the money spent in design and manufacture was spent on the stuff that counts, not bling and glitter.

This is a very capable and good sounding amp that should satisfy all but the most power hungry systems for many years to come...

Not as pretty as some.

This amplifier does its job -- it amplifies the signals it receives accurately and musically. The price you pay for all this is incredibly low and the support from Outlaw is incredibly high. These are great people who design quality electronics, with useful bells and whistles only. My speakers are 4 ohm and my previous Denon 3801 receiver did not do the job -- because it was not rated for 4ohm loads. (instability and too much audible distortion) -- the Outlaw amp is rock solid at all sound levels, and for a small to medium sized room you don't need more power. A fabulous product.

Flimsy power switch, ugly 80's Proton/NAD look

I'm just going to get to the point. This is a $2,000 to $3,000 7 channel 100 watt per-channel amplifier that is disguised in a bland black box with a flimsy green power switch that is selling for $899 ($849 when you purchase it with the Model 950 pre-amp). To say that I like the Model 7100 is like saying that a flight into space on the Space Shuttle would be neat. I have owned this piece for over a year and during that time I have run it through the gauntlet and have yet to find its breaking point. No matter how loud or how long you run it, the amp never sounds strained or distorted and has never exceeded warm to the touch. It has a clean and very neutral sound with a crystal clear sound stage and depth that I did not think was attainable for under $2000. Everytime I watch a movie, especially action films, I am astounded at the realism of the pin-point imaging of this rig and its ability to literally engulf you into the center of the action. During the heated battle scenes of They Were Soldiers, not only could you hear the casings from the machine guns hitting the ground, you could literally detect where they fell. Bullets would occasionally fly by your head and you would think left temple right shoulder etc... More subtley, in X2, X-Men United, when torch would click his Zippo open and closed, the clearity and imaging is so good that you literally feel like he is sitting right next to you in that museum. This is an experience that rigs by Lexicon, Theta and Anthem are known for at up to 6 times the price. Don't get me wrong, head to head these are superior components, but not 6 times the cost superior and possibly not even 2 times the cost superior. For music the Outlaws are suprisingly good, not awesome, but for Home Theatre equipment they are very very good. I have very eclectic tastes in music so I have listened to everything from Foo Fighter's to Vivaldi to John Coltrain and the system delivered. It has, again, a very neutral quality. It is almost like the components step back and let the music speak for itself. Voices are natural sounding and warm, bass and low end are tight and well defined. Sound stage and transparency are unusually good for a component at this price point, instrument placement can be pinpointed. The only complaint I had was a very slight hardening in the upper registers with strings, cymbals/high hats and other percussion. This is minimal and no worse, in fact maybe even a little less noticable, than competitors such as Adcom, NAD, B&K, Parasound and Rotel which retail at 2 to 3 times the price of Outlaw. If you are currently in the market for a Home Theatre and are looking into components by Rotel, Adcom, B&K, Parasound or even Lexicon and Anthem, you need to take a real serious look at Outlaw and take advantage of their in home 30 day moneyback guarantee, even though I really don't think you'll need it.

for the price you can't beat it. Outlaw service is terrific and their 30 day money back guarantee is the best in the industry. The quality of the amplifier is great. It is sturdy, understated, and solid internal components. 7 dedicated heat sinks, huge torrodial transformer, large capacitors. Just look at the specifications. The THD, is amazingly low. Honestly amplifiers are all about the same. Since their only job is to amplify the signal to sufficient driving levels, the most important figures of merit are: Linearity, Power delivery capabilties (i.e. how well does the amplifier deliver power as the load impedance changes with frequence), low output impedance. Given those qualifications, I find Outlaws more than sufficient for my current audio needs at a price that is affordable and highly value oriented.

Placement could be a problem for some - is pretty heavy...

I bought the Outlaw Model 7100 to pair with my Yamaha RXV-2200, which is now used as a "pre/pro". Although, I had been pleased with the "all-in-one" performance of the Yamaha receiver, I also felt there was something missing, specially in the midrange. The highs were a bit too crisp is two-channel, stereo play-back, and the bass, although it played deep, loud and with authority, it seemed to lose control at times. Now, enter the Model 7100. The improvement was immediate and obvious. The midrange drastically improved. Vocals sound so much "warmer" than before. The separation of vocals & instruments in two-channel playback is fantastic. And it also smooth-out some the "over-brightness", so common of Yamaha units, although the addition of a "true" pre/pro in the future will further improve this. All in all, I am very impress with the "bang-for-the-buck" value that Outlaw amplifiers offer. Great built & performance at more than a reasonable price.

These Outlaw guys are geting boring. Same old, same old. One product after another that blows away practically everything at twice the price (and some costing even more, even much more!) All Outlaw products come in plain black wrappers and almost disappear in the darknss of your home theater. Inside, all have top quality, oversized parts. They are all Hernia Doctor's dreams. They all get amazing reviews; make best and editors choice lists year after year. To make matters worse the Outlaw's Customer Service Department makes ANYTHING that goes wrong, right. Come on guy's! How about an occasional miss for a change? All reviews are begining to sound the same ... unbeleivable quality at a great price, etc., etc. Only the features you really need with no nonsense. How about some excitement other than great musicality coupled with fantastic movie surround sound performance ? Couldn't you burn down a competetor's warehouse, or rob a train containing their shipment to a high priced retailer, or at least kidnap a salesman or two who makes up all sorts of fictions to compete with you? Maybe you could tie one of the models in their glossy ads to a railroad track. In short, something different for a change? OK some serious criticism: the 950 and the 7100 combo is "no-way" three times as good as the 1050 even with the advanced features and extra inputs in the 950. The combo at slightly over 3 times the 1050's $500 price isn't even 10% better but is worth every penny due to the increased "wow!" peak experiences it produces. To do better than this combo for the home theater you will need a lot of money for a percent or two improvement. Unless of course you want to dazzle your frinds with glitzy looks vs. sound quality.
