Strength:

THE BEST BASS I HAVE EVER HEARD FROM ANY AMP - DEEP, TIGHT, CONTROLLED, WITH LOTS OF SLAM.

Weakness:

ZERO

All I can say is that this amp should cost three times as much but for some reason doesn't. When it arived, I almost broke my back trying to lift it onto my rack. It is very massively built and has only the finest connectors on the back. The sound is extraordinary. Just get one for yourself and I promise you that you won't be dissapointed.

Strength:

Plenty of Power with 225 Watts a side. Clean, almost sterile appearance looks great on the rack with my S-100, S-500 Tuner and S-400 CD Transport. This my first "higher end" audio equipment as I've been waiting 20 years for this upgrade. Was looking for Power, Brand recognition, good specs and value. The whole package cost me a little over $5K. Not fully understanding all of the audiophile jargon and not wanting to sound total "untuned" this amp is perfect for the lower high end bedgeted person. "krell on a budget" Even has great "krell like" power and inidcator lights.

Weakness:

Used some 1/4" spade lugs on the ends of my speaker cable and these did not fit into the protective clear plastic covers on the amp connection. Had to go with a bare wire connection. Not so bad! The other issue I had was with the RCA jacks on the amp. Originally had RCA's connected to the pre-amp wan went to trade up to XLR's with the left RCA plug on the amp got loose (an internal issue) A quick email to NAD and they said it was a consumer fixable problem. Great cause I didnt want to take this into the shop.

For the money, the NAD Silver Series is top notch. Seriously considered Krell but got more sytem for the bucks.

Strength:

Unbelievable sound quality! Shocking transients, limitless dynamics, terestrially deep bass. Very warm and palpable midrange, smooth highs. Better then other amp I heard at many times the cost. Very massive build.

Weakness:

You guessed it - NONE.

This is the amp that gives you goosebumps everytime you listen to it. Quite frankly I still can't believe how cheap it is for what you get. I was goin to spend a lot more, but ended up buying 2 S200s and using them as monoblocks in bridged mode. I am getting 1200 WATTS into 4 ohms on my speakers per side. I can't even begin to tell you what happens in my listening room with such enormous power. I have just one thing to say - BUY THIS AMP.

I wanted to add that this is the quietest amp I have ever heard. The noise floor is so low, notes spring from and fall back onto a silky black stage. Detail and dynamics are awesome, and the sound is incredibly clean, but not at all sterile or cold. I listen to a lot of piano (one of the harder instruments to record well), and the S200 is able to render it with a natural warmth without losing any of a note's attack or decay. Listening to this amp makes you realize just how "loud" many solid state amps really are.

Again, I give this (along with the S100 pre) the highest possible recommendation.

You will see my reviews a few places all over this website. I am a floundering buyer at times, but I think this is a very special product. I bought one B Stock from Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio and its a great amplifier.

Dynamic, clean teble, incredible midrange, all the audiophile terms. I will not bore with the usual adjectives. My goal was to find a solid state amplifier to work in all speaker conditions, and be very value and performance oriented. I do not know how somone could go wrong with this amplifier.

NAD S200

I can’t believe there are not more reviews of this incredible amp. Could it have something to do with NAD’s rep as the company for value-driven audiophiles? Could it be they’re not expensive enough?

NAD always sounded great to me, but this Silverline series is just unreal. The S200 is an absolute joy to listen to, and at $1800 list, a bargain compared to the big Krells and Levinsons. Still, it ain’t cheap, but it is very much worth it.

Of all the amps I auditioned, only the Bryston and CJ came close. The Bryston was well-built and slightly sweeter sounding, and $400 more. But I couldn’t find a decent, reasonably priced pre for it (Adcom GFP 750?). The CJ is a wonderful piece and a different kind of vibe, but it being tubes, doesn’t have quite the bass control of solid-state, though it was definitely a bass I could live with. In fact, if I hadn’t heard the S200, that’s what I would have bought.

The Krell was surprisingly just OK for the price, and not nearly as detailed (or involving) as the S200. It was also a bit transistorized--sounding to me. The Musical Fidelity, while very quiet and spec’d with an amazing SACD-compatible dynamic range, was unlistenably bright.

Overall, the S200 has a slightly laid-back soundstage (not dynamics), which I like. It is very detailed, but unlike some overly analytical setups I’ve heard, is able to use this detail to further emotionally involve you. You will "see" deeper into every recording. Or rather, performance, for that is what all your CDs will become on this amp.

With 200W, the S200 is as smooth as any I’ve heard, and absolutely effortless in its ability to cleanly present all kinds of music. Coltrane, Air, Mahler,—nothing makes this amp breathe hard. The sheer control across the whole dynamic range is simply astonishing. Notes don’t stray. Well-recorded vocals are surrounded by air. Bass is tight. This is one transparent amp.

If you’re looking for a pre/power combo and can spend up to $3K, do yourself a favor and seek the S200 (and the matching pre S100) out.
