Strength:

Plenty of clean power, Drives low impedance without any trouble. Ran my amp bridged which through a Maggie presented a 2 ohm load without any probs, ( just got a bit hotter ). Not factory recommended. Presents a balanced sound through the spectrum.

Weakness:

None for the price

I have this amp paired with the C162 Pre amp and running Magnepan 1.6QR speakers. My source is a Cyrus CD6S. Interconnects are Taralabs Prism 500 and Prism 2A. This amp runs my Maggieswith out a hickup and certainly delivers plenty of scale and dynamics. I don't know if it is the Maggies or the source gear or the combination of the two but the soundstage is huge in width! Compared to a previous Biamped system with electrostats I would say that this current system lacks a certain amount of delineated areas in regards to image depth: the sense of true distance from front to back is not there, its kind of like a representation of the depth not an illusion making you feel it is there. Anyway I have used the Cd player into the adjustable inputs at the back of the amp and noticed some improvement in transients and resolution but the pre amp is good for convenience sake. The c272 has average build quality and compared to my previous Denon POA- S10 monoblocks the Nad is very lightweight.
I would say that if you were a first time buyer that the C272 would be more than enough to satisfy your needs for the money they are asking.

I have given this product 5 stars because there just isn't that much around for this sort of money that sound as good.

Strength:

SOUND QUALITY! Flexible connections, Great Value! Your money is spent on what makes a difference, the internal components, not flash! Did I say Sound Quality.

Weakness:

None, if I find any at this price I'd be nitpicking!

I've used this amp for over a year now and never had any problems with it! I'm using it to bi-amp a pair of Monitor 9's & Monitor 3's (both running as my mains) along with my T773 receiver. Sound Quality on music & movies is Excellent! Great Bass! (you might not even need a sub especialy on 2ch, it's that good) Smooth Highs! It's very powerful (I can't get it to clip, I tried and it plays CLEANLY to very loud levels) but is natural & detailed without any artificial zing up top, unlike some of the japanesse offerings which give you detail with an edge, which can be fatiguing in the long run. This amp (and most of NAD's products) have a sound quality you can listen to in the long run. That's more important to me than a sound that stand's out in the show room only to wear thin in the end. This amp throws a wide & open soundstage (sometimes in 2ch I have fooled listeners to think my surrounds are on) Imaging is great but not the best, in fact this amp may not be THE best at everything (there are better amps but for a MUCH higher premium) but what it does do it does so well for this price class, this is the best amp for my money! The features offered are a bonus to me, even without them the C272 is worth it.
Dual binding posts are perfect for bi-amping/bi-wiring, the 12v trigger input (which is what i use) works flawlessly. Not to mention soft-clipping & variable inputs

I don't see how that one of the other reviewers had any problems especially if he could have used the 12v trigger & split the signal to both his amps.
I'm now going to buy a second C272 & vertically bi-amp my speakers (which will provide even more CLEAN POWER & definitely improve on Imaging). For less than $1500.00 I'll have a bi-amp setup that will best many higher priced amplifiers.
One of the best buys I made & will make!

Strength:

Lots of power
Reasonable price

Weakness:

ATO logic doesn't work
Does not have capacity to "daisy-chain" units together via a 12 volt trigger for on/off

I agree with the review posted by "makin_music". The ATO logic does not work at all. I tried every conceivable setting with the auto-on/trigger switches and it never worked. I was going to bring it back to the shop where I purchased it and decided to research the problem on the web instead. Apparently this is a known "feature" with the amp. On top of this - the manual does not really do a good job of explaining how this works in plain english.

Besides these faults, it's still a good piece of equipment. The sound is clean, with a hint of warmness. Vocals are distinct and have an almost "breathy" quality to them. The sounds is not as "tight" as I was hoping, but overall I'm not disappointed.

I've read a lot of stuff on various forums regarding NAD quality control issues. So far, knock on wood, I have not had any problems, besides the ATO not working.

If you're interested in purchasing entry level audiophile equipment NAD is a good bet - although I suggest you look at Outlaw Audio instead. They're gaining a pretty reputation for sound and quality - and the auto-on/off features work flawlessly.

Keep in mind the list price here in Canada is almost 1000 bucks - you can usually get it for between 700 - 800.

Strength:

Good clean power if it works.

Weakness:

Poorly thought out design, lack of flexibility in bi-amping situations, poor quality control in production. Generally, NAD is way over-rated for what they deliver. If I had it to do again, I would buy something from Marantz or Denon.

The C272 delivers great clean power. Beyond that, I personally think that most of the reviews I have read are hyperbole. The ATO, automatic turnoff logic of the NAD line really does not work that well. I purchased two c272 amps along with a c162 pre-amp to bi-amp a set of quality speakers. The pre-amp only provides a direct switching signal for one external amp although it has two line out signals. This creates a problem if you want to bi-amp because how do you get both amps to turn on when you power up the pre-amp if it will only signal one external amp to also turn on? As part of the ATO, automatic turn off, system of NAD, there is also a signal sensing turn on for remote amps. Well, it does not come on unless the signal from the pre-amp is fairly high -- this creates blaring initial music levels. If you subsequently turn the volume down, the amps turn themselves off. It would seem that if NAD thinks this circuitry is important enough to stamp on the front of their amps, they would actually make it work. These amps provide good power but the advanced features work poorly. I would also mention that I bought four NAD components and had to return two due to manufacturing defects. Buyer beware!

Customer Service

NAD replaced the products although the local dealer initially tried to suggest the problems I encountered were mine.

Strength:

Power
Clarity
Value
Improved overall stereo performance

Weakness:

None so far.

I have just recently purchased the C272 to add more power to my current system that includes Krix Euphonix front speakers (rated at 150 watts), a Krix KDX centre speaker and Krix Brix 3 surrounds powered by a Denon avr 1802. I listen to a lot of music in stereo rather than multi channel and felt the Euphonix were underpowered by the Denon's 80 watts per channel. I knew there would be an inmprovemnet adding the c272, but I could not have predicted how much of an improvement; it's like I've opened my ears for the first time. The imaging is incredible, but most obvious is the improvement in the tightness and clarity of bass performance. I had previously thought of replacing my Denon cdr-w1500 cd recorder because I thought, mistakenly, that the underperformance was coming from the playback side, but now I don't think I will, for a while anyway! The amp gives the system such a huge overall improvement in stereo sound that I can't wait to get home from work and start playing my entire collection. Even playing mp3 through the Toshiba Gigabeat through the front av inputs gives a sound that easily beats the performance of the cd player before I purchased the NAD. I recommend to anyone who has an av amp with preouts, and loves music in stereo, to consider adding this power amp to their system. Please note the purchase price is in Australian dollars.

Strength:

Better than the 320BEE

Very noisy amp. If you are trying out a power amp for the first time this amp may please you because you never have heard a proper power amp before but once you get used to the sound out comes all the flaws.

How does it sound?
It will give you a huge soundstage compared to the budget integrated amps. Its sound signature is very much like the NAD320BEE but has a lot more power and control. The singer will appear locked in the center and the bass will have an ease to it rather than booming like the 320BEE at loud volumes.

Why do I hate it?
A power amp should be as linear as possible i.e. not do anything to the signal except amplify it. Hence you should be able to change pre-amps and get a better sound.

The NAD has a very noisy sound. i.e. the space between instruments and singers is very veiled. It is as if you are listening to a singer behind a curtain. Also this amp simply destroys the soundstage. Everything seems locked in the center. You do not get any soundstaging to the sides of the speakers or behind them.

I had paired this power amp with the NAD 162 pre-amp which was equally bad though the weak link between the two was the power amp.

Strength:

Simple design, love the flat grey look... Power, bass and overall good soundstage.

Weakness:

For the money, and all it's strengths paired with my lack of pedigree I feel like my setup is damn good.

Replaced my denon dra-685 with the c272 and an ft audio little wonder passive pre.. Other components are a nad cdp c541i nad tuner c422 and a pair of polks rti-10. Part of the improvement goes to the passive as the sound is clearer, sound was veiled before. But what I can attribute to the c272 including the clarity is defined bass. The denon had little bass, really only was heard on music that was bass heavy. The nad gives you bass all the time and nice bass at that. I love the amp and am a nad fanatic.

Strength:

Clear crisp sound

Weakness:

none found yet

I picked up my new amp on thursday and had it all set up in a matter of minutes. I am using it to drive my front Athena speakers, audition series floor standing 2. I was using the NAD 742 to drive the speakers and found them to be strained at higher levels. With the addition of the C 272 i now find the highs much more clean and the mids and low end have more punch. I expect that the sound will further mellow ouit as the amp braks in. For $ 685.00 i think that you would be hard pressed to find a better true high current 2 channel amp on the market
