Strength:

This amp is a beast with finesse...no it's not perfect but it's close. I bought it used to run the woofers in a pair of nht vt2s. It has a viselike grip on the bottom end. Even though conventional wisdom says no I use it on the bottom of the nht's with a vtl st85 on the top for the best of both worlds. Recently I was listening to a pair of vandersteen 2ci that I lhave with the tube amp full range. When I set the nht's back up I decided to run the nad full range with a bi-wire pair of audioquest midnight. All I can say is WOW....a beast with finesse!!!

Weakness:

That last degree of transparency but for the cost no complaints here. I compared it to a Bryston amp that I own and an Eagle I had on hand and that was the only difference.

This is a fantastic power amp which combined with NAD T758 (preout) brings forward sound I never have heard from my Linn LP12 turntable. Low tones are played relaxed with power I never heard before. Why do they not makes these today?

Strength:

Extremely versatile with many speakers. Sound quality that still surprises today.

Weakness:

Needs proper set-up to avoid sounding soft. Sensitive to source's bass quality. Avoid robust sounding speakers.

Update: Further extensive tests of this amp with various speakers the last few months show the 208 to be still very relevant today. Its ability to drive many speaker rhythmically with a friendly, warm presentation yet remaining satisfyingly transparent surprised a few. Although it did not have the ultimate spotlight and detail prowess of the Audio Research Classic 120 monoblocks for example, the NAD gave a nice rendition of hard hitting jazz, sweeping orchestral works or intimate jazz quartet settings through a pair of Magneplan 1.6. Playing with support and ferrite cores on the internal signal/power cables yielded a tighther, cleaner and more defined presentation - a more up to date sound. Solid grip on music. Oh, and the midband improves a great deal after an hour of warm-up.

may I know which impedance selector (4 or 8ohm) should I use with my B&W matrix 803II? Does the 8ohm switch always provides the highest power setting?

I just recently pruchased the NAD 208 Amplifier USED from Century Stereo in San Jose. This is the first time I have purchased seperates. I purchased a Parasound P/HP - 850 Stereo Preamplifier for the NAD Amplifier. I'm using theses products for audio only and love listening to the clarity of the music and being able to hear all the details music with the power the amplifier.
I paid $650 for the amplifier and have a 90 day warranty. I'm open to any suggestions concerning speakers. My current set-up is AR 600's with a passive subwoofer, I'm thinking about purchasing Vandersteen's A3 Speakers.
