Strength:

Highs and midrange resolution rival the very best I have heard. What the doctor ordered for SACDs.

Weakness:

Speaker Output terminals are ridiculously large; complicates setup.

I was initially unimpressed with my Musical Fidelity Nu Vista 300. It was not offensive in anyway, it is just that, initially, it seemingly only offered marginal improvement over my 10 year old Bedini 803. After paying $5500 for the Nu Vista I had every incentive to send it back (there was a 30 day home trial period) and I notified Audio Advisor that I was going to do just that. But in a few days things changed dramatically for the positive and now I would not give it up for any amp I have auditioned. May be this was a break in issue; May be my old Bedini is also an excellent amp. But I sincerely believe that the Nu Vista 300 is among the very best amps available.

The one amp I had auditioned that compared most favorably with the Nu Vista was the Spectural DMA 150, which is also a remarkable. If it was not for the fact that you must use a Spectural pre amp (not to mentioned proprietary speaker cables and interconnects) I may very well have purchased one. But I have yet to hear an active pre amp which compares sonically to a well matched, high quality passive pre. I was not willing to give up that transparency for a killer amp. So I continued my search for a high echelon amplifier and took a chance on the Nu Vista due to the stellar reviews, the opportunity to have a 30 day home trial (a must, and because the input sensitivty made it a great match for a passive pre. (I now own the Placette Audio Passive line stage/volume control for which I will submit a review in the next couple of weeks). But I must say, that while I did not have the opportunity to listen to the Spectural and the Nu Vista head on or in close proximately, I firmly believe that the Nu Vista is superior from 200 hz on up. (My system is bi amped and I only use the Nu Vista from 200 hz on up).

Several months ago I purchased the Sony SCD-1 SACD player. Now make no mistake about it, the SACD format provides an immense improvement to any accurate sound system (see my review of the SCD-1), but the Nu Vista/SACD coalition makes for a special synergy that reproduces the *very best* midrange and highs and the resulting *very best* and most authentically reproduced sound I have ever heard.

My only complaints are not related to sound at all. The Nu Vista was a bear for me to set up because of it stupidly large speaker output terminals which will not accept any standard (or any available) speaker cable lug. This results in less than full and complete connection of the speaker cable lug and can be a hazard to the speakers should the cables slip off. It was real tough to secure the speaker cables well enough to slide the amp back into the rack with the speaker cable(s) from popping loose. The out put terminals work best with bare wire (as opposed to lugs or banana connectors).

I understand there about 10 left out of the limited 500 production run. If at all possible get a hold of one these beast (110 lbs total weight) audition it for a couple of weeks; it is unlikely that you will send it back.

Strength:

Crystal clear sound, solid construction

Weakness:

Bizarre speaker terminals not useable

What a great piece of gear! The sound is clear and detailled without a hint of harshness. Lots of power. Rich, natural low end.

I've been waiting patiently for all my components and interconnects to break in, and am now getting some amazing sound.

I have the NuVista paired with a Sony SCD-777ES SACD player, a Musical Fidelity A3cr Preamp, Analysis Plus Oval 9 cables (biwired) and Musical Fidelity NuVista Silver Interconnects. Speakers are Aerial Acoustics 10T's. Using Magnum Dynalab Etude tuner.

This amp's responsiveness and total freedom from noise make it a good match for SACD and quality vinyl.

The Aerial's need a lot of power and get plenty from this amp, which puts out 600W per side into Aerial's 4 ohms.

The MF A300 I owned is powerful but not enough for my Aerial's. Bought from Audio Advisor who took it back for a prompt refund.

I'd recommend the NuVista without hesitation to people looking for outstanding quality at a reasonable price. It may be hard to find one of these for sale as the inventory of new units appears to be exhausted.
