Strength:

Allows the strengths of the preamp to shine. Has reserve power to handle the most difficult material.

Weakness:

It will expose weak material and inferior conpeonents in your system.

I am driving this amp with an ARC Ref Mk1. I am using Cardas Bal. Golden Cross interconnects and Cardas Hexlink speaker cables. The speakers are Dunlavy SC-IVa I also have a pair of ARC Classic 150s. I have been an audiophile since the late 60s and I have no particular bias towards tubes or SS equipment. Both have their place and either can make great music if paired with the right partners and designed well. I cannot comprehend how or why anyone would trash this wonderful power amp. The sound stage is enourmous. The mids and highs are clear and full of musical detail. The base is tight with incredible powe. There is reserrve power to handle the most difficult material. There are recordings that my Classic 150s handle better, but on balance, this amp outperforms most anything I've ever heard. In thre end, I suppose that many reviews are subjective and many reviewers are biased and have a specific agenda.

Strength:

Sweeet sound, non fatique, control on bass

Weakness:

None

I use a pair of Sonic Frontiers Power 3 driving a pair of Thiel 3.6s,and bought the 333 used, because I wanted to have both, a tube amp and a solid state. My Pre-amp is the ARC REF 1. THe 333 is sweet sounding, and very much like the Sonic Frontiers. Many tiimes I have to listen to both really carefully to tell the difference, and there is a slight difference in the mid, but I cannot say if it is better or worse, just different. The 333 is faster and has a slightly tighter bass on some difficult CDs but u have to listen really carefully. I bought it to keep, both the tube and the SS, and I have not be made to feel otherwise. I change between the two, and enjoy my music, which is what it is all about, and both amps make me very happy.

Strength:

Dynamic, bass controlled, articulate vocal, precise. Good looking and high quality parts

Weakness:

The top cover is easily scratched

With a high retail price, one usually has high expectation for this amp. This is a GREAT Amp. However, It is the law of diminishing returns. This AMP is not twice as good as Proceed HPA, Krell KSA250, Classe, Aragon etc. It is better than all of the above and there is a reason it is a Class A in Stereophile list. If you can afford the best without calculating the most "value" for $ spent then get this AMP.

I am happy with it since I bought it used for $4200. It is 6 years old and it is still better than what's out there.
I opened the cover and am amazed by the quality and precision electronics components and power supply. Talk about 32 TO-3 package transistors and 2x 2.45KVA transformer. What other amps has this kind of design...

Some people like to trash this AMP because they can not afford it and want to get their satisfaction ....

Strength:

Bass?

Weakness:

No music, emotional etc thats what "high-end" should hv

If you like big "bass", Super dynamic, get this amp,if you
like to hear the "music" & "emotion" of the musicicans, just
take Simply 845(or similar direct heat tube gear)
at HKD28,000( 1 US$ = HK$7.80) or take their smallest
amp "simply 2"(or simply 4 for more watts) at HK$8,500
& 12,000(simply 4).
Afterall, you will understand what is the meaning of music!

In simply speaking, these newly designed ML amp play the
music "piece by piece" ,too warm coloured sound at low
spl & too cold at high spl, they will not have 'Music"
like their old design such as no.29/27.5 etc.

I thought the main reason for such changes was the leaving
of Mr.Mark Levinson (just like Mr.Nelson Pass left
Thershold,so thershold turning down!)

Finally pls forgive my poor engligh!

I HAVE LISTENED THIS MARK LEVENSION 333 THROUGH WILSON WATT/PUPPY 5 WITH M.L DIGITAL AND PREAMP, TO MY EARS THIS AMP IS BRIGHT AND DETAIL WHICH DOES NOT MAKE REAL MUSIC. THOUGH I HAVE LISTENED TO MANY SYSTEM FROM KRELL TO SE TUBE, EVEN OLDER M.L WHICH I REALLY LIKED IT, BUT NOT THIS CURRENT M.L MODELS, INCLUDING M.L 331 WITH M.L38S PREAMP AND ML DIGITAL WHICH I LISTENED WITH NEW REVEL SPEAKERS (BEUTIFUL) BUT NOTHING SPECIAL.

Strength:

This amp has one of the best sound stage presence I have ever heard. Get the upgrade and you will be very impressed.

Weakness:

Price, but if you look around this sometime can be had for half the original price.

I noticed some reviewers have trashed this amp. I am a little puzzled by that. If it is because of the money this amp cost, then okay. But I have been listening to this amp for over two years now and the only one I have hear since that would tweak my interest is the Pass Lab amps.

If you want a solid state amp that will give you highs, lows and mids then this amp will. But remember it is only as good as the associated equipment used with it. So if you use a cheap speaker cable, interconnect or inferior speakers and pre amp and cd player, then you wont get much from this unit.

So if you are going to trash this amp, at least give some input on why. Plus give it at least 200 hours to break in. Many times that has been the case of people reviewing equipment right out of the box. Believe me this amp opens up after 200 hours.

So those who don't love it, no problem it's a free country and you are entitled to you views. But hook this amp up to the right stuff and sit back and enjoy.

Strength:

Very good soundstage; very clear focus and transparant.

Weakness:

Bass not very controlled and powerfull although it has a lot of output power. No extrmely dynamic.

Well despite what all the people say negative about the ML333 I am very happy with it. I use the amp on the Wilson Puppy 5.1 together with ML380 preamp and Meridian 508-24 cd.

The total sound is very balanced. It depends on the type of music you listen. The stong points of this amp are in the midrange. Voices sound very clear and well placed and focussed. I also play with the Krell KSA200S and this amp had a better controlled bass and more detailed. The difference ML versus Krell is to me that the Krell is more crispy and the ML more smooth. It is a matter of personal preference.

I bought my ML333 new last year. Although already outdated the dealer still had an old stock which was sold with huge discounts. Normally we pay in Holland close to $10.000 for this amp so $ 6000 is a bargain.

However I think the price performace ratio is low but this counts for all high end audio products. You pay huge amounts of extra money for slight improvements. I am happy with the ML but if you do not listen side by side a Classe CA301 which costs less than half the price does also a good job. But I did not hear any amp matchine the total performace of this one except more expensive ML models (No 33 and 33H, No 336 almost no difference).

I just listened to this amp today and I must say I was disappointed. The CD that the salesman used to demo this amp wasn't a good recording, however, it still didn't have a very controlled sound. It sounded okay for an amp less than half its price.

I recently upgraded from an Audio Research pre-amp(sp-14) and amp(classic-60) to a Levinson 380S with a Levinson 333. Speakers are Watt/Puppy, CD is Audio Alchemy DDS-pro/DDE3.0/DTI-Pro 32. Turntable is VPI III Mk. IV with sp-14 as
phono stage. Having been a tube fan, I was suspicious of the solid state Levinsons. What I found with the No. 333 incredible, effortless power with the most controlled and defined bass I have ever heard. Soundstage width and depth are fabulous. Even though the Watt/Puppy is very sensitive, the extra power was critical in controlling the bass. I admit that the amp (and the rest of the system for that matter)are stupendiously expensive, but for me the result is like nothing I have heard before.
