Strength:

Terrific control throughout the audible spectrum. Wonderful bass. Never appears rough once even in the most taxing pieces.

Weakness:

None

My ML 23.5 powers ET LFT4 speakers that require both high voltage and amperage to perform to its highest. These demands are fully and adequately met by the ML 23.5. It never sounds harsh or bright but I suspect it has to be matched with correct equipment and interconnects. My front end is the Rega Planet 2000 (new aquisition). The preamp is a heavily modified Audio Research LS1. After matching them with my ETs, I have never had the urge to find another power amp that would give me better or cleaner sound. The ML 23.5 also presents image, stage, height and depth well. If the recording has those qualities, the ML 23.5 will most certainly allow them to be fully displayed. It is a very "truthful" amplifier that is musical too. I am sure there are not many in the market at that $$$ range that will send shivers down my spine and make my hair on the back of my neck stand up everytime I listen to it.

On another note, I feel that many audiophiles do not spend enough time treating their sound rooms and just complain about their "bad" hardware. Most hi-end products have already attained a certain sonic performance to achieve that status. If you cannot hear that sonic difference then you have to at least look "into your own backyard" first, before setting blame on the hardware.

I hope to have helped in submitting this review. Please feel free to email me if others audiophiles need advice or just to exchange ideas on how to get maximum performance out of their hardware.

I recently bought ML 23.5 from my friend who is also a definite audiophile. I tested many amps before I bought this unit and for 3K, I can tell you that this unit is the best bang for the buck. I put it against medium level amps such as Aragon 8000B, ARC 4000II, McCormack and BAT 200 and I felt that this unit is superior. A comparable solid state amp to this amp at its time was the Krell 250A. From old reviews, the 23.5 sounded better. What turned me off with the Krell was that it was Class A and it always ran like an oven (waste of electricity and dangerous for young kids). I also actually liked the sound of the 23.5 better than the ML 331. The 23.5 was not so laid back and had alot more power. Plus the ultimate reason for buying this amp is that it has incredible bass. Extremely tight and controlled. I have not been able to max this amp out w/o going deaf. Top rating from all the top audio magazine when it was in production and definitely a top rating from me.

Strength:

Bright,good tonal balance, natural sound

Weakness:

I have used this over 3 years.
It's much superior than Classe, Krell (Krell is better than classe).
Compared with rought sound amp. (Classe), It provide natural feeling of music and realistic voice.

It's one of my fantastic high-ends.
(Classe was a piece of Crap. Krell is too tough with that price.)

as audiophile we must believe in our own ear .for some it is through anger with their dealer or unable to purchase at the right price n intentionally abuse this audio review column to reduce the second hand market price.the truth is we are all lovers of hi end equipment.lets not be bias against any product.
as for this ml 23.5 rated a class by stereophile is one of the rare breed of mark levison in its own class.it is better
than any of the latest batch (highly priced).this one has the power n a good charater to produce tight bass.if u have the chance ,take one home n try,you wont regret!!!!!!
recommended for those who is on budget n craving for hi-end
