LINN
an Audiophile

In the context of a passive or active Linn system, this is one of the worst Linn amps of all time, lacking smoothness and definition. Even the Powertek outperforms the LK100 and the amp stage of the Majik - based on Klout topology, while less powerful, is far superior and more musical. The LK100 is also vastly inferior to the newly released LK85 and LK140. If you are looking used you would be better off with a new or used LK85 rather than a LK100. This is the Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz of Linn amps, and fortunately all are now out of production.

Strength:

Versatile Amp with a clean and powerful sound.

Weakness:

Timing clearly inferior to newer Linn amps, lacks control of bass

This is a good amp, it has a "clean" and tuneful sound and is quite powerful. However, it lacks control compared to newer Linn amps such as the LK85. Also, timing is far from perfect.

The LK100 is a good low-cost alternative for those who want to "go active" with Linn amps, active crossovers and speakers since it has built-in slots for the active crossover cards.

Even though it is a good amp, and You can pick up a used LK100 for $400-$500, You will get much better performance from a LK85 at almost the same price.
