Ground loop? People have you never heard of ground loops? That''s where your hum is from. I had the same problem with 9270. Plug you 3-prong plug into a 2-prong converter for your amp.

Strength:

Solid. Deep bass, beatiful range.

Weakness:

Could have looked better cosmetically, but then again the good amps are not things of beauty. Example, Brystons are ugly in my opinion.

Oh boy are u right. I just bought a P4000 saturday and listened all day today sunday to some jazz, classical, etc. at low volume, mid volume and high volume. This amp is sweet. I have had Carver TFM35 THX before but nothing like the Hafler. At low volume with the gain at 4, this sucker still produces beautiful bass and full range music. Of course I have complimented it with the Parasound P/H850 pre-amp, and my old Infinity Referece 5 still kicks serious ass. It's because of your honest review that I bought the Hafler. No hums, noises like the others are reporting.
Thanks.

Cheers!!!

Strength:

The price was good and the bass was solid.

Weakness:

Hum at the amplifier and through the speakers until I shortened and then soldered the wires that lead to the output jacks. Lots of grain in the upper midrange and highs. Flat soundstage.

I loved the mids and highs of my Counterpoint SA100 but the bass was totally flabby. Went with the Hafler and got tighter bass, but had to get rid of it after about a year because I found I didn't want to listen to music from my system anymore. The Hafler sounded its best when left on for several hours, but still, there was no magic. No depth and lots of grain. Listened to a Bryston 3BST in a back and forth comparison and put the Hafler up for sale the next day. Bought a 4BST and love it. Preamp is an AMC (a what?) 1030 tubed device, and the combination is just great. In my opinion you get lots of slam for the dollar with the Hafler, but not much quality. Go for the quality--you'll be happier in the long run.

I've owned a P4000 since Christmas 1997, and I think very highly of it. I'm driving a pair of Paradigm Studio Monitors (ca. 1994) and I find the match very musical with everything from chamber music to fusion to rock. The amp recently won a TEC award.
My P4000 does not have the loud power supply symptom that has been reported for the 150 WPC P3000. In fact, I've had no problems at all--but the warranty is, nevertheless, one of the best around.

I'd buy the P4000 again if I needed another 200 WPC amp. Call Jeff Ryan at Full Compass and order one today!

Strength:

Faithful Reprocudtion of Audio Spectrum and Instrument/Voice Character. Very smooth and transparent. Excellent Sound Stage(esp. front to back)

Weakness:

Any weaknesses are due to my poorly tuned room So I can not comment here

I'm a musicain (piano: classical and jazz) and a music teacher; an instrumental music. So I been around live instruments all my life. Sure you can spend several grand on an amp that, in my judgement, doesn't reflect the price you paid for the amount of improvement you get. I prefer to pursue music and not high-end Specifications and dump the rest into well-done recordings! For what you pay in Hafler you get a better-than-fair return.
I run my Sony Super Audio player Directly into it with monster cable RCA to TRS with the following Super Audio CDs: Mahler's 5th, Miles Davis Sketches of Spain and Miles Smiles, Pictures at an Exhibition, Earth Wind and Fire's Gratitude (absolutely astounding!) and Beethoven's 5th and Emperor Concerto. Hafler's approach, I believe, is to give you a faithful reproduction of what the musicans and engineers had in mind during the recording process, down to the room. For under $700 I cant complain, in fact, I rejoice. (No Buzzing)

Strength:

inexpensive

Weakness:

Too transparent and no Balls

I owned a P4000 for less than a week & sent it back. This amplifier is so transparent and wimpy it completly ruined the great sound of my tube preamp. My old Carver TFM 35 blew it`s doors off.Hafler states in their product brochure that Haflers engineers are the best in the bussines and they can`t even design a power supply that don`t buzz so loud that you can here it 20 feet away.I think they need to go back to school.

Hafler went Pro and never looked back, I would say that Pro is were they belong. Why, because of the simplistic no bullshit way they deliver the goods. No hype, no fancy claims or polished 1/2" thick face plates, just a damn good amp.
So good in fact that I have been looking for 3 years trying to find a "audiophile" amp that could beat it. None and I mean none could beat it in its price range, only amps in the 2K+ range could slightly better the sound, and the improvement was never worth me spending 2K to get.
So here I am with my Hafler pumping out the jams, without fail day after day, week after week, year after year. No problems, just clean music.

If you are looking for an amp, go Pro, get Hafler!
