i finally cured a stupid problem i had with my ct27v cutting out . the 27 runs a tfm-35x through 2 mtx215's and a cheesy realistic powered sub. THE VIBRATION FROM HAVING THE PREAMP ON TOP OF A SPEAKER WILL MAKE IT CUT OUT. those 3 things are unbeatable 4 pounding and sound quality. i bought all this stuff new and have never been happier of any purchase i've ever seen or heard.
the mtx-pwr215 speakers with carver power is unreal. great1 2 BAD IT TOOK ME THIS LONG 2 FIGURE IT OUT! my fault, preamp was always vibrating on top of the huge speakers. when i upped the power 2 it on a dedicated line the walls actually move out. what an easy combo if u can still find it.

Strength:

Crystal clear high end , lots of clean power .
I use a CT-7 for a pre and Nuance Star1's with the TFM -35 for my Bedroom setup :) .

Weakness:

Cross my fingers , ill have no problems with the Amp .

Very nice sounding amp , Sound stage is good , the upper end is crystal clear . I am making my comparisons to a Bryston 4b , which i have used for about 20 years or so now . The brystons mids and depth are better than the Carver TFM-35 , but like i said the upper end is better with the Carver and has a softer sound ( than the bryston ) .
All in all you cant miss at these prices , this is great sounding amp with lots of clean Power .

These amps sound much better then NAD , but not quite a Bryston .

Strength:

The 35x is an all around amplifier in my opinion but it's character really comes alive when it's bridged and used in home theater applications, as a stand alone amp it will punish the average speaker and cleanly drive a quality speaker

Weakness:

no adjustement controls for output

i have owned my 35x now for over 5 years and have used it any many configurations to see how it would perform. i am happy to say, this amp has never faded in application that i set it up for and my meter lights have never blown.my power plant consists of a yamaha RX-V2090 A/V RECIEVER,YAMAHA MX-1000 POWER AMP, CARVER TFM-35X POWER AMP, YAMAHA DDP-1 DIGITAL DECODER, BOSE ACCOUSTIMASS V AND POLK AUDIO R15 SURROUND SPEAKERS.This much power is over kill for a single room but using my 35x now as a center channel amp makes the room come alive and i have no complaints.

Strength:

Price, powerful, small footprint

Weakness:

build quality is marginal. I took it apart to replace the meter lamps. I was a little disappointed in it's build quality. Luckily I didn't shell out much for it.

I'm using this amp to drive a pair of Martin Logan Sequel electrostatic loudspeakers. It has tons of power and can handle the difficult load of the Sequels with ease. Very neutral sounding, powerful, price was right. Was previously using a Denon AVR-4800 to drive them, which was inadequate at higher volume levels.

Similar Products Used:

Denon POA-1500 which drove my MLs flawlessly.

I have the TFM-55X and TFM-35X...they've been in boxes since 1999. From what I remember though, they sound pretty great pushing my Klipsch CF-4 speakers. Great range, sound good with classical music, punk, electronic, disco, rock, you name it...and you can't push them over the edge! I had them bi-amped last, with the 55X driving the mids/lows and the 35X driving the highs. Just getting ready to set it up this way again. Was going to ask if anyone saw any drawbacks in setting them up this way, but I guess this isn't a discussion board.

Carver separates are my step up from the Japanese mid-fi league and it has been a great start. This amp is THX rated and has stood up to anything I have thrown at it. I have used it to fill an auditorium for a dance and in my family room and it never fails to provide smooth, warm room filling sound with great response. With 250 watts at 8 ohms it can handle lower loads with ease. It is bridgable to 700 watts mono. Carver says that the 500x can go to even lower impedences but I have not seen this black beauty fail me yet with mine or my friends speakers ranging in size, load and wattage needs. If you can still find this amp it is a great deal as it most likely will be discounted. I doubt I will need better but hey, this audio stuff can be addicting.... The trade rags seem to like it too as it is Stereophile rated C but I don't shop by just the reviews.

Weakness:

Need to have someone develop parts bins for all of us who love these beautiful amps

I got lucky and picked this along with a matching holosonic pre amp from a guy who was moving to a smaller place, bought them both for $700.00 (no they were not stolen!!!). This amp drives a pair of Magneplanar MMG's perfectly. Very clean, never clips and is very powerful. Thought before I bought this set up, I was going to have to get an Audire or something else husky for these MMG's, but this last series to be built while Bob Carver still owned and ran Carver stuff is terrific. He is a true audio pioneer and I would only think of replacing this stuff with his Sunfire items.

I have been very satisfied with Carver products in the past and I am very sorry that Carver is no longer in business.
