This is the best bang for the buck Amp you.
I listened to the Marantz MA700 and the Bryston
at Harvey's back in April of last year and the
Bryston just blew the Marantz away. The Marantz
sounded like someone put a pillow in front of the
speaker.
I then went to check out the krell FPB-200, FPB-600,
and the VTL st-150 at sound by singer and I compared
them all.
The Krell FPB-200 doesn't sound better than Bryston and
it cost twice as much. The FPB-600 has more punch than
the Bryston but the cost is way too high. The VTL st-150
sounds as good as the FPB-600 and it cost half the price.
My conclusion is: for the same price you pay for VTL,
you're getting 3 more channels for free.
Also, the Bryston is not as big as the other guys...

My system: Altec-Lansing 501, transparent musicwave+ cable,
Sony ES 9000 digital pre-amp, Bryston 9BST, and cheap
interconnects ( looking to buy the Monster M1000 ) and
toshiba SD3109 DVD player.

I don't own the 9B ST but auditioned one at home. I compared it to Proceed's AMP5 and a Krell KAV500, both of which cost 1300 dollars more then the 9B ST. The AMP5 I didn't like, initially it sounded good, but the longer the amp stayed on the more laid back its sound became, and the bass really wasn't taught, tight and dynamic. I really liked the Krell. This is a very nice amp with many audiophile attributes, but it doesn't convey the same power as the 9B ST. The 9B ST is more dynamic, and yet refined, smooth and detailed. The only give up to the KAV500 is slightly less 'air' around instruments. In the end I didn't buy either the 9B ST or the KAV500. If my budget was around 3500 to 4500 I would have bought the 9B ST. The 9B ST drove my B&W 802s to sufficiently high and well controlled volumes. However, I ended up getting Byrston's 5B ST and 7B ST monoblocks.

Strength:

Complete silence, unlimited power, untouchable waranty

Weakness:

none

I read all the reviews prior to buying and found out they are absolutely accurate. When I hit play on the cd player there is absolutely no sound, no hum etc.... However when the music starts it is clean with no limitations in highs or base. Very tight base, crystal clean midrange and highs. I like to listen on occasion to the music cranked up when I'm in the mood and there is no distortion. I have to turn it back down or I'll hurt my ears. I can't imagine playing the music any louder and yet the amps' green lights give no indication of crying uncle. I listened to Krell mono amps hooked up to Martin Login Prodigys and because it was different speakers I can't truly compare but given the price difference and at least what my ears heard I went with the Bryston without thinking twice about it. A 20 year warranty??? That tells you something.
