Strength:

Powerhouse...sweet and clear...rugged as Hell!

Weakness:

None I''ve found in sound and build, but be aware of a new speaker binding post design. It''s made as a safety feature for you so wires don''t cross, but make sure your speaker wire leads going into the amp are long enough coming out of your cable jacket as you''ll need to stretch ''em a little most likely. I had to send my Cardas cable back for a longer run to be made at their factory.

An absolute winner! Want to hear your music in absolute terms of transparency, ease and power? Bryston is it!! I used to own a Bryston 3B NRB, but the 4B ST is smoother and sweeter. It will drive virtually any load. Listen to it on vocals and you''ll get goose bumps, or close your eyes and experience a 3D soundstage many other amps just hint at in comparison! Couple that with a "Minimum" 20 year warrantee and you''ll be assured of beautiful dependable music for many years to come.

Strength:

Warrenty, power, value

Weakness:

Grainy (compared to REALLY expensive stuff)

This is a great amp for the money. I use it with a BP25....good combination. Be aware though that more expensive amps (levinson, krell, spectral, classe) DO sound better, so if you''re after audio nirvana, then you''ll have to keep saving.

I compared this amp to a Classe ca-150 on hand and used an ARC D-115 mk2 as a reference to them both. The bryston has a punchy, forward presentation with an extended, powerful bottom end. The midrange is open and transparent. Images were well focused. That''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s fine for parties, but on an audiophile note I would be delinquent not to mention them midrange grain, lack of bass definition and inability to make the speakers "disappear". The extreme forwardness resulted in instruments clustering at the speakers rather than laying back in the sound stage. Comparing Classe to Bryston - While I had expected the Classe to be the more musical amp (it was) it came as a surprise how much better it handled the bass, which was somewhat boomy in the Bryston. Also, it''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s sound stage was much more developed, where the Bryston''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s was flat by comparison. Another obvious difference were the comparatively liquid mids of the Classe that imparted an ease to the presentation. While the Bryston certainly leans towards transparency - and I admit that''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s not what I look for in a system - it''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s the grain, loose bass, forwardness, collapsed sound stage and it''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s failure to impart any emotion to the music that leaves me... um... cold. Strength:

Plug me in for the next 25 years. Can be used as a anchor, paper weight, and dropped on your noisy neighbours car and still work. Accurate, reliable, affordable Canadian design. Aggressive look. Leave the flashy looks for the amateur.

Weakness:

A bit harsh if not used with a good source and warm pre-amp. Heavy, especially if you need to move it.

Firstly, the 4B was never designed for those who were willing to spend an absurd dollar for a decent amp. If you own a tube amp or any thing over 4000$, please leave the room. This amp is for those who want a unit that can play loud for an excessive amount of time and sound fairly decent. If you have a good source, CD player, and good straight designed pre-amp--this can sound good. I mean, it will not sound as detailed and warm as some other designs, but remember the idea here. Lots of current, difficult loads, hi-temps, and straight through design. Simple as a plug. Look in-side and appreciate it for what it is. Live with it for a while, drive speakers intended for a dance club all night--spill a beer on it and keep going and then pack it up for home and re-connect it to some decent speakers and pop in some jazz. NOT bad at all. Awsome dynamic head room and a non-stop work-horse is what is about. And guys, dont forget the most important part. The music, appreciate the music and a pieces ability to play it unbiased

To Mr. +KaRkUs+ !!

It lokks like that Mr. +KaRkUs+ and some others on this site do not tolerate other peoples views. It looks like we alwaus have to give 4-5 stars to everything. I have too heard Bryston Bryston 4B ST for several months and honestly it is not near to high end sound. I completely agree with Mr. Bill L.`s description of Bryston 4B ST sound.

To Bill L.

From the sound of your review your amp ( circa 1998 ) may need to be serviced. I am guessing that you bought it used ?

Sometimes it will get the snot beat out of it by a kid and then he'll sell it. The warranty however is transferable and I hope you at least got that from the sale. I would send it in for service because your explanation or review sounds like an abused, almost dead amp. I could be wrong,if so I apologize.
