None at this price.

Bought 2 of these at Ubid and at $160 each plus shipping they are a bargain for 400WPC bridged.

Strength:

Ample power at a bargain

Weakness:

No meters. Cheesy connectors.

Good sound, lots of watts for a low price. I liked the sound right away -- better than my old TFM15-CB. I'm using it bridged for my center channel, giving 400 watts mono. Power seems good. Clean, and if your system is properly grounded no hum. So far, my only complaints are that the connectors seem flimsy, and there's no meters. But, for $400, what did you expect?

I recently purchased the AudioSource Amp-Three and have to say that I was surprised by what I heard. I originally purchased the Amp3 to be used as a rear channel amplifier in my future Dolby Digital setup for home theater. (currently using prologic with integrated amps in the pre-amp AMC Pro7). I have a pair PSB Stratus Golds that as some of you may know, are power hungry! Anyway, I hooked the amp up to use temporarily for my PSB's while I was shopping for a "main" amp. I think the Amp3 will stay right where it is! The sound is smooth and clear, sometimes with bad program material, it can be a little bright, but for the price does a nice job. The amp will drive down to 2 ohm speakers, (A + B combined with 4 ohm speakers, this comes in handy for bi-wiring) and handles the PSB's just fine. The transformer is large and seems to be wound very well. It looks like all descrete circuits, (can't "see" and IC's) and looks to be made very well. The binding posts on the back are very solid and don't have any trouble with 12 and 10 gauge wire. The MONO bridging switch is a nice toggle design. (400 wpc 8 ohms MONO) and the auto signal sensing is nice for those of us who forget to turn off our amps! 150wpc into 8 ohms and 300 into 4 makes it a nice powerhouse for those of us on a budget needing the juice! I am planning on purchasing another amp3 and bi-amping my PSB's, test runs showed sound improvements in my listening space. Anyway, point is, if you're looking for some nice solid, smooth power and don't have much to spend ($500 or so), I think the Amp3 deserves a close look. Can't find any real "bad" faults considering the price.

Strength:

smoothness, deep bass, laid back highs, only around 350 at J&R

Weakness:

ultimate dynamics and stage depth, not the most heavy duty binding posts

I've had this amp for over a year now and I have used it with every thing from cheap CD players, DJ mixers, nht s2 and 2.5i's and have continually been impressed. When I used a mid-fi marantz 67 CD player with it, the Amp Three revealed the really low bass(the kind that sounds like concrete vibrating). With NHT 2.5i's and the marantz, the amp three can deliver excellent low bass, although it can't drive the nht's full range to concert, real-life levels, even in my relatively small room. Still, I've become very loyal to the Amp Three. It capitivates you in a may that cheap receivers can't. The detail, laid back highs and smoothness will please people who don't know how much low- end electronics suck, but probably won't satisfy the most experienced listener who wants the ultimate in explosive dynamics and 3D staging.

I originally bought this as a subwoofer amp but I decided to try it out in place of my B&K and Hafler with several speakers. The first were very demanding 3ohm Advanced Sound Campanille II and the second were a pair of BIC Formula 4 speakers circa 1977 that have been re-coned.

The Audiosource AMP Three was able to drive the Camapanile IIs but the sound was disturbingly "thin". Unlike the Hafler, the bass and midrange was strained and washed out. I tried the Audiosource on the much easier to drive BIC speakers with similar results. The bass sections of CDs
were too much for this amp.

I now wonder if the Audiosource will be able to drive passive subs adequately. I would not recommend the Audiosorce for full size, full range speakers. Stick to easy load monitors.

Ability to play well into 4 ohms; power reserves; bargain price

This amp is a steal. Where else can you buy a quality amp with quality electronics and sonics that can drive Magnepans for about $350 (jandr.com). It is incredible to believe that I paid just a little over $1000 for an incredible sounding CD source system that includes Magnepan MMG's, a quality CD player, and a quality amp (you don't need a preamp since the AMP THREE has built-in front mounted large L and R volume controls, effectively turning it into an integrated amp!!!!!!!!!!! The best money I ever spent!

System:

Magnepan MMG's ($500)
AudioSource AMP THREE ($350)
Technics SL-PD8 ($130)
Straightwire Chorus interconnect ($40)
Radio Shack thick gauage speaker cable with banana ends

Strength:

Solid construction, great value

Weakness:

None that I've noticed

All listening is in comparison to my previous integrated amplifier, an Onkyo Integra. Upon receiving the Amp Three, I hooked it up directly to my Link DAC and let it run for a couple of days. Even before it was broken in, I noticed that in comparison to the Onkyo the treble was enhanced and the bass was more detailed; all in all, like a screen had been removed from in front of the sound source.
A week ago, I installed an Arcam preamp that I bought on e-bay (hooked up via Audioquest Copperhead cables). Whoa! Bi-i-i-g improvement! Presence on vocals is incredible; soundstage has deepened and become wider; passages on recordings that had been congested or clipped are clear as a bell.
I know some other reviewers have had the opposite result, that is, they found it better without a preamp. The point is that using this amp with one or another configuration may give you differing results. What I am happy about is that when paired with the Arcam, the Amp Three sings for me. For the price, this is a great piece of gear. Five stars all around.

An update; boy does break-in matter. After 20 hours of use this amp has opened up. The sounstage has expanded and the midrange has bloomed.

My speakers dive to 2ohms and are full range 4 driver so this would be best used as a bridged monoblock but I need to
modify my ratings. The AMP Three should drive most conventional speakers well for a bargain price.

I wanted to match the 400 watts my Halfler Dh 500 puts out to my MK S2Bs, Im using it bridged to drive my center Mk S100. Never used it stereo but it drives this speaker fine,at 4 ohms. Using the Amp one stereo to drive my rears.
I like the anticlipping feature on both amps. I dont think ive ever clipped the Halfler.

Strength:

Reasonable cost.

Read reviews at this site and also at www.hometheater.com and was impressed. Own a Yamaha 2092 receiver and was looking for an outboard amp. Must say that the soundstage is much improved over the 2092 and hear more detail. It appears to be a heck of a deal. I can not compare it to other higher end amp's but I can not justify spending 2 - 5 times its cost of $299 for a higher end amp. It suits me just fine and with my Polk RT12 front speakers, it sounds like Micheal Hedges is in the room with me and that I am actually at Micheal Tilson Thomas performance of Romeo and Juliet in San Francisco.
