Strength:

Very small and light with superb sound amplification, 100% reliable after two years of use (about 300 gigs), can drive two cabinets via the two Speakon-style speaker outputs and patch into sound systems via the "Send" of the effects loop. Dual voltage selectivity accommodates the musician who tours the world.

Weakness:

Haven't discovered any weaknesses. The SL does exactly what it is advertised to do. No frills, bells or whistles., it simply delivers perfect sound amplification at all volumes. Perhaps, 250w@4ohms is insufficient power for some players. I understand that the newest model has bumped its muscle to 300w@4ohms. If that's not enough for you, maybe there's a Walter Woods Ultra in your future at about three times the cost of this AI-SL.

The Acoustic Image Clarus-SL is a super compact and transportable (4 pounds) single channel bass amplifier head with active EQ pots for lows, mids, hi's and "Bright". Other than hi-and lo inputs and dual voltage capability, its only "feature" is an effects loop, the "Send" of which I use occasionally to patch into a PA system. It produces an utterly clean, transparent sound, runs absolutely quietly and has ample power for my acoustic upright bass, driving my 8 ohm cabinet with 125w. The SL is a reliable, professional grade unit that delivers the goods.

Customer Service

I have contacted Acoustic Image on two occasions by phone with questions. Both times, the person who picked-upwas the company owner, an engineer, who answered my questions in detail and thanked me for calling.

Similar Products Used:

In 2001, I replaced my 100w Walter Woods with an Acoustic Image Clarus and liked it so much for its sound and portability that in 2005 I decided to buy the slightly smaller and more powerful SL, relegating the Clarus to back-up status. In both cases, my speaker cabinets have been by Raezer's Edge
