I have had my 995 since January. I purchased and returned over 8 different receivers and 4 different speaker configs. Beleive it or not, I ended up with the 995 over a DENON AVR 5600. For one thing it was too expensive to keep, but overall, the 995 has clarity not to be heard in many brands in this price range or greater. Of coarse, the majority of people's drawbacks is the remote. OK, minor flaw in design by Yamaha--Well, who cares?? Kick Ass Receiver!I would highly recommend this unit to anyone! |

If you're even considering another A/V receiver, DON'T! For the money this is without a doubt the best product out there. This thing can do everything but cook your breakfast and if I work at it maybe I can get it to do that. Coupled with a SONY KV36FV1 flat screen TV, a set of Klipsch Quintet speakers with a 10 inch sub-woofer, and a SONY DVPS530D DVD player this system flat out cranks. Feeding a digital signal into the receiver is my DSS system which makes listening to the music channels all that much more enjoyable. Excellent Yamaha product. |

My assessment is that 995 is very good for the $850 I paid for the machine. If it's inputs and features you want, you get 'em. Overall, on the audio side, I was quite impressed with the sound of this machine. It is fairly quiet, offers tone-bypass (which seems to eliminate some extraneous noise), and has VERY good dynamics on movie special effects sequences. I still keep a separate audio system, but this is not a bad sounding system at all. The tuner is good, but not great on FM, and about as poor as usual for AM. On the video side, I've been happy with the resolution of my VHS, and DVD selections, but since I'm still learning the finer points of high performance video, please take my judgment with that knowledge in hand. |

I first purchased the Yamaha RX-V995 last week, took it back for the Sony STR-DA555ES as the reviews for this Sony were all excellent and this receiver had EQ for all 5 channels, not to mention the Sony looks like a receiver from the 90's and not the early 80's like the Yamaha. Well I got the Sony home, hooked it up and I was soooooo disappointed in the sound quality. There was a lot of noise in the channels, the EQ had to be adjusted for each sound field seprately even in the non-sound field, the reciever was no where near as dynamic and was rated at 120 amp, the Yamaha 100 amp. The Yamaha is under rated, far more powerful and dynamic, the sound fields on the Yamaha are far more superior, (not that I use tham that much).I took the Sony back, apologized to the store clerk, stating I had made a bug mistake with the Sony. The store clerk said "it alright, this happens all the time" and laughed. They had the Yamaha I returned actually waiting for me as the said they new I would be back for it. |

I just purchased and set up the Yamaha RX-V995 and I must say the jump in sound quality is astounding. I was running a JVC Prologic model but the Yamaha is light-years ahead. The clarity, detail and sheer sound presence were nothing short of astonishing even on my medium quality speakers. For initial audio testing I used the CD of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (24K Gold version) and for video testing I used the DVD version of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Both were like hearing them for the first time, only much, much better. Also, the number of inputs (audio, video, digital, S-video, external decoder, etc.) should be more than sufficient for most systems. I would highly recommend purchasing this receiver; you will not need to buy another one for years. You can get it from Sound Distributors in Las Vegas for $850 (go to their website). They are both knowledgeable and reliable if you are worried about Internet purchases. |

Just bought the 995. It's an awesome sounding reciever, with a lousy hard to work remote.however, in further reasearch, I'm going to return it and go for more power, and bells and whistles in the 2095. this has 7 channel amps instead of 5. |

Just replaced my Yamaha RX-V992 with the 995, and now I've got it all. This receiver has everything you could ask for. And it sounds great to boot! Being able to set the parameters for the dsp modes makes all the difference. And having a digital output makes it a whole lot easier to record on my cd-r from either my dvd or cd player. This is the most satisfying piece of electronic componentry I've ever owned. And I like the remote! Haven't yet programmed it, but I also have a Yamaha cd changer, so I don't need a lot of memory, since that is already programmed into the remote. But I don't yet know if the unit was paacked with the new remote with the increased memory capacity. I have a Philips Pronto, though. Buy that, and you won't be disappointed. It will do everything! |

All I can say is WOW! I recently upgraded from a Kenwood Pro-Logic receiver, and I am absolutely AMAZED at how good this thing sounds. It is literally like I bought a new set of speakers. Music and DVDs all sound terrific. And yes, the remote sucks, but the sound of the RX-V995 more than makes up for it. |

Very happy with this receiver. Very easy to set up and once I did it I inmediately started to enjoy very clear sound from DVD movies. I haven´t tested it with music CD´s yet, but the music I get from the radio tuner is great. I think the quality price ratio of this receiver is unbeatable. |
